I could send automated bulk emails to my clients and prospects. I also use it to create cool landing pages.
The competitors like convertkit have a larger number of useful features.

Easy to send newsletters.
I have seen Mail Chimp around for years and heard their ads on many of the podcasts I listen to. Never really took them seriously though, always considering them a resource for hobbyists more than serious email marketers. After getting a free account though, I was pleasantly surprised though, especially at options for sending out newsletters.
I think services like ConvertKit are better for tagging individual subscribers and automation. For newsletters though, MailChimp is among the best.

I definitely recommend this program to people looking for an affordable option when they are starting their businesses and don't yet have a large email list or need it to be highly targeted.
This program was really easy to set up and use, and was incredibly affordable when I was starting out and didn't have a very large email list.
It's not very robust and cannot do all of the tagging and segmenting that programs like ConvertKit can do.

MailChimp offers the best bang for my buck. For new business, MailChimp allows me to manage 2,000 subscribers and send up to 12,000 emails a month for free. MailChimp email template has a ton of options to choose from, and it also integrates with almost any products and services you can think of. Intuitive user-interface, solid reporting, good A/B split testing support for email campaigns.
No support for tags as of June 2018 and unlimited marketing automation feature. If you are looking into the more advanced feature solution, I would recommend trying ConvertKit.

I love how easy this software is to use and would recommend it for someone who has a smaller list or who is just starting out.
I dislike the design of the forms. They don't easily embed into websites. When you have a bigger list I prefer the tagging features of software like Drip or Convertkit.

Super easy to use makes this software a winner!
Super simple and easy to use, mailchimp is a great way to get started with email marketing..especially given their free plan!
Mailchimp lacks some of the bells and whistles of other advanced email marketing platforms....particularly the advanced targeting and segmentation capabilities aren’t at the level of Drip or ConvertKit for example.

I recommend MailChimp for small businesses and start-ups that don't have much money on their hands
MailChimp in my opinion is the best email marketing tool for new businesses. I will tell you why it's the best for new businesses and not for growing businesses. All the exciting features MailChimp offers work well for start-ups with a low income. For example their free version can send 2000 emails free per month, that is good enough for a new company. You also get free nicely designed automated workflows to pick from which is pretty cool. I think MailChimp also does a great job for campaigns. You can start a regular, plain text or automated campaign and MailChimp will offer a great workflow for it.
We all know that free is not always good. The free templates MailChimp offers do no stand out as those of Convertkit for example. Also, MailChimp doesn't seem to be making any improvements to its features like its counterparts.

It was free and what I needed at that time. It was great as a starter mailing list for my company.
That it was free and actually had the basic features available that I needed. That was such a help for me as an emerging entrepreneur 3 years back.
To me, it's a little outdated as I've switched to Convertkit where it's more about delivery and engagement as opposed to MailChimp's images and non-personal templates. Automations is not as intuitive like other mailing list providers.

Mailchimp is pretty easy to use and has some easy design templates that you can easily edit and drag and drop to build out an email.
Email lists get clunky fast when you have to create different lists and groups to segment subscribers. Tags are a way nicer way to organize subscribers, so I recommend and use ConvertKit for more advanced email marketers and growing businesses.

I would highly recommend Mailchimp! I have had a great experience with the program.
I love the easy to use templates and systems within Mailchimp. You don't need to know how to code in order to create a beautiful email design. As a Squarespace user, it integrates easily into my website and saves me lots of time!
The thing I like least about Mailchimp is that it lacks some of the complex tag and sequence features that Convertkit has. However, I don't use a lot of those things, so it isn't a huge problem for me personally.

When I first began doing some email marketing I used Mailchimp because I could do so for free as I was just starting out. It seemed clunky and didn't make sense to me. Someone told me about Convertkit (a competitor) and I switched because it's so much more user friendly and just makes sense to me.
I liked that I could use it for free as I was first learning about email marketing.
I found it really difficult to use and thought things I was trying to do were put in weird spots and were difficult to get to.

My experience with Mailchimp was quite negative when I used it several years ago. It's likely that they've made updates since competitors like MailerLite have come along, but their customer service team has been subpar in the past. For entrepreneurs looking for an affordable option with loads of features, I highly recommend MailerLite or even ConvertKit.
One of the primary reasons I used Mailchimp for my email newsletters was because they offered a free plan if you had 500-1,000 subscribers. At the time, I thought it was a generous plan albeit pretty thin on features.
The plans Mailchimp offers users are quite spendy when compared to competitors like MailerLite. They have a free plan but it does not offer autoresponders or trigger events which I will argue are essential if you're trying to turn your email subscribers into customers. Navigating their user interface is also a chore when you're trying to set up an autoresponder sequence or import email lists from another email program.

It's cute, the dashboard makes sense and is easy to understand. MailChimp offers many tutorials on how to use their software.
I find setting up emails to be difficult and confusing. My email templates look great on mobile but the padding was wrong on the desktop version, but I couldn't get it fixed. Trying to create a workflow was very tough as well. I'd recommend checking into another Mail service, like ConvertKit, MailerLite or Klayvio.

Overall I’m very impressed with Mailchimp and the improvements that the software has implemented since its first inception.
The software is a dream to work with. Setting up my first email Campaign was super easy and I was finished quicker than I expected. I previously used the software years ago, and switched over to Convertkit for a more robust system. After realizing I needed something simple, I transitioned back to Mailchimp. My transition back to Mailchimp has been very easy to adjust to. I love the fact that there’s a mobile app because its so easy to create campaigns and send them while on the go.
I least like that the automation for the free version only allows one email sequence.

Fine, but ultimately I outgrew it.
If you need an easy, affordable mailing list, Mailchimp will have you up and running. The drag-and-drop interface is simple and the sign-up forms are easy to personalize. It's my go-to for suggesting a platform for first-time mailing list owners.
Automation in Mailchimp is a mess as compared to platforms like ConvertKit, Mailerlite, or AWeber. If having a robust email sequence based on multiple opt-in lead magnets is a necessity for you, it's possible to set them up in Mailchimp—but a pain. All my more complex mailing list operations have been moved to Mailerlite for this reason. I don't use the Instagram ads integration (not relevant to my use of the platform) and it's also irksome to keep getting it as a suggested campaign.

I started out using Mailchimp for email marketing for my blog. It was perfect because I didn’t have many subscribers and I wasn’t into affiliate marketing yet. It was easy to use and had an easy to navigate interface. And best of all it was free. But as my subscribers grew and I started affiliate marketing I switched to Convertkit which offers more flexibility and features. I think Mailchimp is the perfect email marketing service for those just starting out and I would highly recommend it. You can always switch to another service as your needs change but for many people Mailchimp will be all they need.
Mailchimp is simple to use and offers basic email marketing features like automation, analytics, and lead management. They offer several basic templates and designs. They also have an app which is great for managing your email on the go! One of the best things though is that Mailchimp offers a free plan that has everything you need for email marketing! The paid plan, which comes with a few more features and options, is also very affordable. This makes it the perfect email marketing service for beginners who are just getting started with email marketing and don’t want to spend a ton of money on a service.
One of the biggest downfalls of Mailchimp is that it prohibits affiliate marketing through email. If that’s important to you then Mailchimp isn’t going to work. I also wish the templates available were more customizable. It’s a basic service that offers everything you need for email marketing but if you’re wanting something with more customization options and features then it’s not the best.

Convertkit has a much lower learning curve than ActiveCampaign, and more flexibility compared to MailChimp. Convertkit allows for multiple forms and segmentation based on tags, whereas MailChimp limits you to 1 form per list.
It's automation capabilities aren't quite as dynamic as ActiveCampaign's, but it is loaded with a sufficient range of automation scenarios.

Simple and powerful automation and multiple forms per list. Easily delivers multiple opt-in incentives. This is a big step forward compared with MailChimp's feature. Automatically process duplicate subscribers.

I switched over to ConvertKit from Mailchimp because the lists format on Mailchimp and most other email marketing software companies was just a sloppy, frustrating way to organize subscribers. ConvertKit lets you apply tags to subscribers, so you only ever have a subscriber email once in your account, but they can have unlimited tags so you can target your emails accordingly.
It doesn't have as many design options YET as Mailchimp. But I expect this to improve with time.

Convertkit provided many of the featured of more expensive services like Infusionsoft, but at a Mailchimp price.
Not a lot of bells/whistles or fancy templates. But for a blogger or coach or other service provider that doesn't need the graphics, Convertkit's simpler layouts are actually more functional and likely to make it past spam filters.

I like of all the automation and tagging features! It's so different than a list-focused platform like MailChimp (in a lot of great ways).
I started using Convert Kit for a side hustle after learning of its awesome automation features and it has been wonderful!
At this point in my growth, the flat rate is a slight deterrent since my audience has stayed very small.

There is definitely a learning curve if you're moving over from something like Mailchimp, but definitely worth it. They have great tutorials and many done for you templates to get you taking action right away.
The ability to create stand alone opt in sign up pages so you can offer multiple opt ins in various places. Also, their automation templates are amazing and get you going right awayl
It's a little pricey when you're used to free software like Mailchimp, but it's worth it once you take the time to learn how to use all the great features.

Solved every email problem or question I ever had with mail chimp for a fair price!
I switched to convertkit from mailchimp 8 months ago. Best decision and money I’ve ever spent. Easily supports multiple email opt-ins. Send to specific groups or whole broadcasts.
The landing pages are difficult to customize well. They are free, so that’s nice. But hard to make beautiful.

Very good overall - i am very happy with Convertkit took away 1 point for difficulty using the program (as i noted above) but otherwise its excellent
The delieverability is excellent - i have used many ESPs and I would say Convertkit has best open and click rates even better than Mailchimp which costs about twice as much
This is a hard to use platform, many features which other ESPs include as basic options, Convertkit does not include. A developer told me that Convertkit cuts down to ensure better deliverability, but I do not know IT stuff. Just be prepared to hire a developer to help you setup the basics and if you do that Converkit is a great ESP to use.

I've saved a lot of time just in making any edits to my nurturing sequences because it's easier to find them.
You can view your automations visually, so this functionality makes it much easier than competitors such as MailChimp because you can easily set up, view, and come back to your automations.
The 'done for you' merge from your old email marketing system to your new one isn't as easy as they make it seem. I've been working with email automation tools for years, and I was tripped up because the import take different lists and combines them into one. It's much easier to export your lists and tags, and upload each separately.

ConvertKit is easy to use, and I appreciate the fast customer service response. Ultimately, however, most people would be better off using a cheaper, more minimalistic tool or a more expensive all-in-one CRM/email tool. ConvertKit is great for a very select audience, who find themselves in the middle.
ConvertKit has a lot of functionality for the price tag in terms of automation. It is kind of a step between free, minimalist tools like MailChimp and really robust tools like Ontraport.
I struggle with the pricing. Simply put, most people who want to automate their email campaigns will likely get more value from a tool like Ontraport or Infusionsoft, which also integrate with payment systems and have more CRM functionality. Other smaller businesses and bloggers are typically better served by less expensive tools such as Mailchimp, which don't have all the bells and whistles of ConvertKit, but which get the job done. So, although I do think it is a good value for the price... I'm not sure who actually NEEDS this mid-point tool.

Overall it does a great job of quickly getting started with building an audience and delivering value. Still, after a certain point, it gets expensive if you are not monetising your audience. I also feel reporting, and email automation can be improved as well.
Entire newsletter subscription management is effortless with Convertkit. The landing page can be customised according to brand, with an email form deployed in less than an hour is remarkable. I also felt the overall delivery rate is much better than Mailchimp.
List management and email automation can be improved a bit. Sometimes I have to go to other tools like ActiveCampaigns just because their automation is much better. Reporting can be improved as well.

It took a long time for me to make the switch from MailChimp to ConvertKit because I didn't want to learn a new platform, but I think that ConvertKit will be much better for connecting with my audience as a blogger and social media manager.
I actually love how simple the ConvertKit emails are. I always thought that perfectly designed, image-based emails were the way to go, but I've learned that simple emails work better for marketing and growing your email list.
I wish there was a cheaper plan for brand new users with less than 100 email subscribers, but all of the users I know say that the price is worth it once you start growing business.

Like most brand new online entrepreneurs I started off with Mailchimp which is free. As I grew my list and my marketing techniques I needed something more robust with more options to segment out my list (not really done with the free platforms). I now have so many sequences and segments that are completely automated and my list has been actively growing. ConvertKit is "customer-based" instead of "list-based"...
This is not an intuitive software initially- especially if you're coming from a list-based provider like Mailchimp. There will be mistakes and there will be a learning curve. But that comes along with running a business. Luckily, the chat and email customer service is generally pretty active and helpful. I've used them a lot.

I refer all of my clients to ConvertKit if I can get to them before they are locked into mailchimp. It's a bit spendier for small lists, but the functionality is SO worth it. The tags, sequences etc allow even rookie marketers to set up smart funnels & sequences. I love this product.
So user-friendly and agile. It's powerful without being hard to use. I try to get all my clients on ConvertKit if they can afford to. The automations, tags, and sequences allow you to be so agile with your email marketing and retarget and build smart marketing funnels with very little effort. It is made for content marketers. I adore this platform.
A little bit expensive for smaller lists, hard to compete with free services for small companies. Learning to build sequences and automations takes a little bit of time.

ConvertKit is perfect for small businesses, bloggers, and affiliate marketers. You can do pretty much anything with ConvertKit in terms of email automation, list building, and more. If you can afford it, go for it.
I used ConvertKit for less than a year and the experience had been awesome. I switched to ConvertKit from MailChimp. Though ConvertKit isn't as feature-rich as MailChimp but it is a perfect email automation software for anyone who is looking to take control of the email marketing. There are quite a few things that I liked about ConvertKit. 1. Extremely easy-to-use. Compared to other email marketing tools that I have used, ConvertKit is one of the easiest to use. 2. If you haven't worked with email, autoresponders, campaigns, rules, etc. ConvertKit is your best bet because it offers you with every feature that you need as a beginner. 3. You can integrate ConvertKit with several third-party tools which is great. 4. It offers you with smart ways to monetize your list.
Here are a few things that ConvertKit lacks. 1. It is expensive as compared to most of the other marketing tools in the market. 2. Their form needs more work. It is too basic with limited features. 3. Lack of landing page builder is another downside. You will need a separate landing page builder tool that will cost you money.

Does what we neede it to and was an upgrade from our prior platform (Mailchimp). We can easily create attractive and effective newsletters, email campaigns, landing pages and sign up pages that work across the rest of our tech stack, and it's easy to sort and segment all f that data on the backend for targeted campaigns. Does what we need it to and at a fair price.
I love the segmenting and the aiblity to sort by anynumbr of tags in ConvertKit. It reallyenables us to create oppourtniteis tostudy our clientele based on defifient and specific needs and the communitcate to onlyt hose parts of the population at given times for certain services. This is key for us an the primary reason we switched from our old esp.
I wish there was an easy way to capture mobile phone numbers for us to integrate SMS communcation and automations. So often after we connect with clients we would love to send a quick follow up message that doesn't warrant a full email and this tool does not have full functionality for that.
