Functional but UX could be better

2017-03-12

I prefer Asana....

Pros

It does do what it is meant to. You can create and track projects, and it is great when you need to see the history of your project.

Cons

Some of the functions are more steps than they should be- and the order of switching control of a project back and forth is longer than it needs to be. The overall organization of projects and tasks is overwhelming- there is not enough visible prioritization.

Basic use

2019-02-22

Overall experience is good and I am fairly new to Basecamp in comparison to the time I've used Asana and Viewpath.

Pros

I like the updates that Basecamp sends out; although, these are very similar to the ones other software such as Asana sends.

Cons

I feel the tracking of project is easier in Asana.

Good way to keep track for the entire team

2019-02-14

Pros

I liked the way it could keep the entire team organised. Strong competitor to Trello and better in most cases such as the interface.

Cons

The price, slack and many alternatives such as Asana has it for free.

I have been using it for the past 3 years but i think Asana has a better user friendly interface

2017-09-28

We use it in the company to assign task between teams and it has been very helpful but also we use asana with someof the other teams and i prefer asana over basecamp

Pros

The assigning option on basecamp is much easier than other applications. The drag and drop option is super on basecamp The to-do list option is nice

Cons

The threads on basecamp make it too confusing to read. If attachments we all put together it would be easier. Switching between different task is also difficult

Pros

Basecamp is a demand manager for teams and companies that want to organize their approval and workflows, use it as a demand for suppliers, accept heavier files such as video, audio and PDF`s, can include several people in teams and organize for days, weeks, or months

Cons

Its look is a bit confusing and sometimes not being intuitive as its competitors trello or asana

Expensive for small teams and not well-designed

2018-12-05

In the end we decided against basecamp and switched to its competitor asana.

Pros

I love that basecamp is your one-stop shop for all organizational needs. in my opitnion its really the only option that offers all this functionality while still not being cluttered or complicated

Cons

However, basecamp is lacking seriously behind in terms of design and usabilty. web-app looks like from the 2000s and mobile app doesnt have a great UX. Moreover, basecamp is really pricy for small teams.

Basecamp is one of the better project managing services I have used.

2018-02-07

Pros

I have used Asana, Workimajig, Freedcamp, and Basecamp.

Cons

The only issue we have run into was running out of space for our files. In fairness our company has 200 people and we uploaded a lot of files. I think we had the biggest server option.

Does a lot but feels dated

2019-04-10

Currently using it with our web development team and the software tends to lend itself toward people who are more left brained. I've noticed they have taken to it because it allows them to integrate with Zapier and have a Google form create a new task directly in platform for them. On my end, it does allow me to see our current outstanding to-dos and it organizes everything into categories. On the admin side, it does sort by projects nicely and allow a good deep dive of each. But I can't get over how visually dull the software is and how the structure seems to be all built around very in-depth, but often confusing project pages.

Pros

Basecamp allows you to plug in to several different platforms and really streamline the project management process. I've been on the user side for a variety of different industries, graphic design, web development, copy writing, etc and it's very flexible.

Cons

I much prefer Asana.

Wanted it to be amazing! It was ok at best.

2018-07-10

Pros

It's fairly easy to start working with. And it is pretty inexpensive. We really wanted it to be great. Ironically, it was the founders' book, Rework, that made me finally give up on it and move to a different product. I think this is a great product fro some companies. Just not ours.

Cons

Ultimately, we left it for Asana. And left Asana for Trello. <3 <3

Basecamp is the bomb

2018-11-27

Comparable to asana.

Pros

I really love the native ability to assign tasks, chat about work, track client questions and create both client facing and internal discussions. With each new project you open you can assign the team and their roles -- better yet you can assign a do to list. Which as a creative is an amazing way to track client and internal revisions to the various projects you are working on. The email updates make it super easy to respond right from your mail agent.

Cons

The only thing I wish is that it was more of a desk top app like Slack. Where I can keep it in my dock and have notifications come directly do my desktop versus emails.

Good tool for teams!

2018-08-17

Good overall experience, but there are definitely other tools like Asana and Slack provide that compete with Basecamp.

Pros

The software is good for collaboration on creative projects. It seems to work really well when team members are working remotely. It's also pretty easy to share project files and have everything in one central location.

Cons

The only thing about this app is that Slack can provide many of the features that make Basecamp great. I think improved communication tools would be great. Also, sometimes customer service can be a little slow to respond.

Basecamp and Trello Combined!

2019-01-30

Asana is helping us keep a better pulse on how projects and campaigns are going. Also, it does a great job at becoming our single source for task management so we can collaborate better as an agency.

Pros

Asana is simple to use but adds many more features that make managing hundreds of projects with almost 100 employees much easier than Basecamp. It is so important for a project management system to be intuitive, quick and easy to use for a wide variety of people and I feel that Asana does this well.

Best Project Management Tool I've Used

2019-04-05

I've used Trello, Basecamp, and Jira, but Asana is my favorite out of all of them.

Pros

This tool makes task management super easy. I love the project feature and the ability to add a task to multiple projects. It makes it so my team can have our running list of projects, we can collaborate with other teams on a task, and they can still have their own projects/tasks.

Cons

It's come a long way

2018-12-09

I'm a current user of Asana, and I also used Asana on a team 7 years ago . It's come a long way - it used to feel cluttered and overwhelming, and now it is much more spare. I like making tasks and subtasks, it makes it very easy to manage projects. I'd use it over JIRA for projects that aren't hitched to Github.

Pros

It's more sophisticated than Basecamp and not as overwhelming as JIRA for non-engineers.

We tried out Asana for a time as potential project management/collaboration software.

2018-03-30

Pros

Compared to Basecamp, which we also road-tested, Asana felt a little more polished and professional, perhaps better suited to a more traditional work environment.

Cons

For our purposes as a small organization of fewer than 10 people, Asana simply offered too many featured and required too much sifting through information to be practical.

Cheap solution for project management in marketing agency

2018-05-08

Pros

Works well for our team - we used it for marketing projects with our client, put there all the data and files and used it as number 1 tool for the functioning of whole agency. It is cheap and very functional solution for small teams and works well with that type of business.

Cons

In comparison to other tools, we found it slightly less intuitive than for ex. Basecamp, but still this is a good tool for a bargain price.

Great for delegating, easy to get distracted

2018-12-07

After trying Basecamp, I prefer Asana hands down.

Pros

The software is great for disciplined teams who are need to collaborate on complex tasks and initiatives. Love being able to send from our email into our Asana lists. Definitely the tool we needed to get ourselves on track.

Cons

Easy to turn into a glorified to do list and to spend more time trying to manage and organize your list than getting things done. We had to create some rules and disciplines to keep things from becoming mercurial and redundant.

I've used Asana for over five years now at multiple organizations. It is the most intuitive and easy to use piece of project management software that I have every used. Best feature? Extra Delight by far. It's the little things.

Cons

There is so much additional functionality that comes with paid membership that you can't grasp it all at one time. So there is a bit of a learning curve. But they have great videos to help get you there.

Beautiful and efficient project management software

2018-08-16

Pros

Asana is a simple Project Management software. I didn't get a bunch of features that I wouldn't use and everything that I need it. They have an app for every platform which is very convenient and allows you to update your task on the go. Asana's team adds features often and listen to their customers. The Slack integration is a great addition to the app.

Cons

I was looking for something simple and not a Basecamp replacement.

Great Tool for Project Collaboration and Tracking

2018-11-20

Pros

Asana makes it easy to stay on track with projects and tasks. With visual flow charts and easy to-do list features, it's a great way to keep track of everything when multiple people are involved.

Cons

It takes the vision of Basecamp and Trello and rolls into one easy to use tool.

Best Task Manager

2019-04-17

I enjoy using the platform. It helps me stay organized and the integrations with email make life convenient.

Pros

Furthermore, it's even better, in my opinion, than Basecamp (paid platform).

Cons

I do not have any dislikes about Asana at this time.

Newbie to Asana coming from Basecamp

2018-06-25

Pros

Features are pretty similar to Basecamp which I've always used but was able to immediately pick it up and start using without any tutorials.

Cons

Closing tasks completed as a user - haven't figured out if you can or project owner has to do that!

Great product. Time consuming to learn.

2018-08-21

Great experience with both the free and premium versions. We have a team of 20+ people using Asana on a daily basis for tasks / projects and has helped us with consistency across teams and productivity.

Pros

The functionality of it. Loads of features that are extremely useful for keeping track of tasks / projects and time management.

Cons

Asana has a steep learning curve compared to other time management / productivity tools such as Trello and Basecamp etc. There's a lot going on in one screen and can be confusing for first-time users.

This software runs our business

2017-11-08

Formerly we were with Basecamp, and found that the team wasn't using the software that much.

Pros

It's so straightforward and easy to use, that I've never had to actually contact support. How amazing is that?!

Cons

I can't think of anything at the moment. Asana is just rock solid. If I had to be nit picky, sometimes once you had added someone to a project (EG: A client or contractor) it can be a little confusing on how to actually remove that person 100% from the system.
