Planim Time overview
What is Planim Time?
Planim Time for Jira is a native desktop application that enables accurate time tracking and bidirectional worklog synchronization with Jira environments. The application is designed for macOS, Windows, and Linux platforms and operates as a menu bar utility. It provides offline-capable time logging against Jira issues while retaining full functionality during network interruptions. The software stores all worklog data locally in SQLite format to ensure data resilience independent of Jira availability.
The core feature set centers on bidirectional worklog synchronization that pushes new time entries to Jira and pulls existing worklogs into the local application. Time tracking is initiated through a one-click timer interface that displays Jira issues filtered by configurable queries and organized by status. The active timer remains visible in the system tray icon, which changes appearance based on timer state. Dual visualization modes include a calendar view that displays logged hours as color-coded blocks on a weekly timeline and a timesheet grid view that presents data in spreadsheet format with daily and per-issue totals. Both views support direct manipulation through drag to move and resize to retime interactions. Status badges indicate synchronization state for each worklog entry. The pinned issues feature retains frequently accessed items at the top of the list, while custom status reordering allows workflow columns to reflect actual work patterns. Automation capabilities include configurable status change alerts, automatic timer suggestions when issue status changes occur, periodic reminders during active sessions, and optional automatic worklog pushing when timers stop. The reporting module generates time breakdowns for custom date ranges, displays every Jira issue worked on with associated descriptions, and supports export as CSV and copying to the clipboard.
Team functionality extends worklog visibility across multiple team members with aggregation views by person, issue, epic, and project. The software provides gap analysis that compares logged hours against expected daily targets and estimate variance reporting that pairs original Jira estimates with actual time spent. These features enable identification of discrepancies early and maintain transparency of effort across teams.
Integration with Jira is implemented through the platform’s native REST API, requiring users to provide an instance URL and personal API token for authentication. The application functions as a standalone client outside of the browser and communicates with Jira servers via standard API endpoints. Personal API tokens are stored in operating system credential management systems, including macOS Keychain, Windows Credential Manager, and Secret Service on Linux. Tokens remain encrypted at rest and are never transmitted to external servers or written to plaintext configuration files. The offline-first architecture allows full functionality without network connectivity and automatically reconciles data when connectivity is restored. Silent automatic updates deliver new releases without requiring manual reinstallation, and theme support ensures legibility in dark, light, and system-synchronized color schemes. An initial import function retrieves existing worklogs for authenticated users and team members to populate historical data.
