Another thing I noticed is that, for some odd reason, it randomly outputs mono audio from a stereo audio file but this does eventually fix itself.

Although a little intimidating at first I found Davinci Resolve to be the best and most powerful video editor I have ever used. With all of it's capabilities I was my video projects turned out better than I ever expected.

The price you must pay to use DaVinci Resolve is the time you need to invest learning every single aspect of each "page", as they call each tool in the software: Cut (login and pre-edition), Edit, Fusion (VFX), Color and Fairlight (audio). If you came from another NLE software, you will find that the interface looks pretty familiar, and the use of the tools is very intuitive.

Impresive postproduction suite for free

Extremely positive, to summarize it. DaVinci's editing tools are as simple or complex as you need them to be, with separate lighting, timeline, and FX suites. Transition and effect libraries have more than enough options. The exporting process deserves a shout out - it has prebuilt channel-specific export templates, i.e. "export for Vimeo," "export for Instagram," etc. 

The times when I have gotten stuck, I was able to figure it out searching online forums. I do have to point out, though, that figuring issues out for yourself would be much harder without a background in film editing. This will be a rough learning tool if you're new to film editing - not an impossible one, and definitely worth the money. But you have to be comfortable operating on your own.

The most comprehensive product for video editing and color grading

Overall, I was able to edit videos for personal projects using the free version of DaVinci Resolve which contains many powerful features even for the free version. I was able to learn the basics relatively easily. However, it will take a while to master the software. 

Hard to learn at first, but allows me the ability to do so much once I learn it.

The best Free Software for Color Grading .

I was using Newtek Speed edit for over 25 years (8 years after it was discontinued) because i could not find software to my liking and that was as easy to use as SpeedEdit. I have tried a couple of those out there and was not satisfied with the performance or workflow and i did not want to pay every year to use the software!
Someone told me to try resolve, I downloaded the free version and ended up editing my next project on it.  After that i was hooked! because SpeedEdit had been discontinued it was not accepting certain formats. Resolve took anything i put into it and let me know if the frame rates were different as i put them in timeline.  If you are looking to upgrade your editing software resolve is where you should start - you will be hooked

The best software!

Resolve is free, with very few limitations. Sink that in: you can get a very-modern, timely-updated, fully featured video workstation for free. Pros don't often use free software, mostly because it lacks support: BMD is definitely the counter to these with Resolve. The paid-version allows for greater resolutions and more customization. 

The industry standard in color grading is now a superb editor too!

                                                       I considered using Adobe Premiere Pro. But I did switch from Clip Champ by Microsoft.
                                                       I chose Da Vinci Resolve because it was free and it came with a lifetime amount of updates without having to be purchased. It comes with so many good features, like tons of audio quality changing. You can do so much with audio, the video. You can do things with color spectrum. You can key frame. You can do all of that for practically no money and doesn't give you a watermark or anything. You can export it to all kinds of different videos and it's just really good quality for a free editor.
                                                       Getting started for DaVinci Resolve was pretty difficult because there was so much stuff that you could do and it's just hard to learn to begin with if you are going in completely blind. But if you have a little bit of editing knowledge from other software like Adobe Premiere Pro or some other very complicated editor, you should kind of know what you're doing. But there's just a lot of adjusting that I had to do and there's a lot of features that I had to watch tutorials about, which you can find online pretty simply and otherwise, that's pretty much it.
                                                       I recommend that you should have at least a lot of past prior knowledge. If you just think that, oh, I'm going to try editing one day and you instantly start with Da Vinci Resolve, you're going to be completely overwhelmed and you're not going to know what to do and you're just going to burn out and run into tons of issues. But I think you should start with a simpler editor, kind of like Open Shot or a Clip Champ, something with really simple controls, basic stuff and then DaVinci Resolve is a very high end, high capability editor, which you should go to after a long time and a lot of editing experience.

                                                       Before moving to DaVinci Resolve, we used Abode Premiere for years, actually since 2006, and it's a good software. I might still use it, but we change because of the Adobe pricing. We prefer software that you buy once, and then you can use it as long as you want, and Adobe doesn't work that way anymore. So, this is the reason why we changed.
                                                       I like the software because it has everything I need, everything we need; basically editing, color grading, all the things, and it's free. We've been using the free version. We didn't have any needs for the paid version yet. So far, it's great.
                                                       When we started, of course, there was some learning to do. The layout is different, the functionalities are different, but somehow the editing is, I guess, it doesn't really depend on the software. You do the same thing. So after a while, it became really easy. Just needed to find where everything is and that's it.
                                                       If you plan to start using DaVinci Resolve, I would definitely load the free version first, try it and see if it's enough for you, if you need the paid version. If you're moving from Adobe software, for example, Premiere, I would think twice. If you need direct link to After Effects, for example, you might want to in using Premiere. If not, DaVinci Resolve is great software for you.
