What is Tolgee?

Tolgee is not just another localization platform offering integrations that only syncs local data with the backend. Instead, Tolgee is truly integrated into your app via SDKs.

Key benefits of using Tolgee

* All in One localization solution for your App. No need for any other i18n library or translation tool

* Localization management platform for managing all your texts in one place

* Tolgee is open-source! It is available under the Apache 2.0 license and you can either self-host it or simply enjoy our cloud version with no need to worry about installation, backups or updates.

* Comment on translations to provide your feedback and finally perfectly accurate translation

* Tag keys for better organization

* Out-of-box in-context localization 🎉 Just click an element while holding the ALT/option key and add your translation

* Automated screenshot generation for providing necessary context for correct translation

* Integrated machine translations 🤖 with auto-translations (for now Google Translate, AWS Translate, and DeepL)

* Translation memory 🧠 Tolgee automatically makes suggestions from translations you have already used in the project so you can translate similar phrases in a similar way

* Collaboration features for bigger teams like translation history, activity log and more

Pros
This way our clients have an easy to use way to edit translations of the platforms we build. Tolgee supports all kind of i18n features like plural, etc.
Everything works perfectly. We translate the most important texts right in the website.
The integration process is very easy and the support is great.
Cons
Features specific to ARB extension and singular/plural translation is missing.
Also serious collaborative/workflow tools are missing.
The keys limitation on low budged plans are a little steep.

Best in class i18n tool

Reviewed 3 months ago

We use tolgee in every project of us - if it is a client project or our own. It is so easy to implement and even easier to use that it became a no brainer for us to use this in our software projects.

Pros

I really like the in context editing feature of tolgee. This way our clients have an easy to use way to edit translations of the platforms we build. Tolgee supports all kind of i18n features like plural, etc.

Cons

It currently doesn’t have some kind of draft mode. That‘s the only thing I am missing

Vendor response

Hi Nico, thanks for your positive review! The draft mode of translation feature is in our plan; we are glad there is demand for it from users like you.

A great low-cost alternative to big name platforms

Reviewed a month ago

Before discovering tolgee all of the translations for our projects where managed through excel files. It is needless to say how ingredient it was. At some point we realized we needed a translation management solution. I spent a couple of months researching available options. I found out that most of the solutions out there were either prohibitively expensive or didn't have the required functionality. Even many of the paid solutions didn't always have all of the features we needed. And then I discovered tolgee...

Pros

Tolgee is fully-featured, well designed, modern and slick translation management system. It had every handy feature we needed out of the box. It's also open source and very easy to deploy and configure should you choose a self-hosted option.

Cons

Tolgee is still young and undergoes major development and improvement. This may lead to some breaking changes if your apps rely on tolgee's API.

Vendor response

Dear Armen, thank you for your great review! We're glad that Tolgee has been a significant improvement for your translation management needs. We are constantly working to improve our system and make it even better for our users.

Good service, but not ready to compete with others yet

Reviewed 3 months ago
Pros

Its simplicity and Material design-inspired design. It's easy to navigate between projects and languages

Cons

Machine translations and editor performance. Machine translations seems that can't be used, while the editor isn't so comfortable: although keyboard shortcuts are nice, some editor views (like history) aren't smart, because you can't write anymore a string if you are seeing an editor tab

Vendor response

Hi Maicol, thank you very much for your honest review; it helps us move forward! We're glad you like the design of Tolgee; we are focusing on offering an easy-to-use and clean UI product. Thank you for the editor-related feedback; we will take it into account. Also, we are sorry that machine translation doesn't work in your project. Do you use the cloud or self-hosted version of Tolgee? Tolgee currently supports three third-party MT providers, and we didn't receive any complaints yet. We'd be happy to help; you can reach us at info@tolgee.io or our Slack community.

My favorite i18n tool!

Reviewed 3 months ago

Overall I would give Tolgee a 8/10 I think. Personally I recommend it whenever someone needs a i18n tool. Even though Tolgee is lacking in extra features, it really makes up for it by getting the core functionality right, being easy to setup and use and having a great API/API clients. And I think with time Tolgee will get some of that extra functionality.

Pros

Tolgee is a really great tool for localization. It enabled high productivity and feels very intuitive to use. I love that you can self-host it, a must-have for some bigger projects.

Cons

Tolgee gets the core functionality 100% right in my opinion, but is really lacking in the "extra functionality" department. There's not really any 3rd party integration (like Jira/Zapier/S3/Gitlab/Slack). Also serious collaborative/workflow tools are missing.

Vendor response

Thank you for your extensive feedback! We definitely plan to deliver more extensive collaboration features; GitLab integration is on our roadmap for Q2/2023.
