They highlight the ability to customize and create motion graphics from scratch, with many praising the smoothness and variety of available presets. Users report that the software supports third-party plugins, enhancing creative possibilities. They find the drag-and-drop functionality and control options helpful for optimizing animation flows. “It is a great tool to animate, and create motion graphics and transitions. I use a lot of motion graphics and add them to my videos. I like the fact that you can create motion graphics from scratch, and come up with what you had in mind.”

“It has unique and smooth transitions, and animation presets in the effects pane. All you should do is drag, drop and apply the transition/ animations. Controls are too handy. One can directly optimize the flow . change the animation/transition flow as per the need via control option / via applied file in timeline.”

Rendering

Users report that Adobe After Effects offers high-quality rendering with flexible output options, including various resolutions and formats. They appreciate the integration with Adobe Media Encoder for more efficient rendering processes. However, reviewers indicate that rendering can be slow and resource-intensive, requiring powerful hardware to avoid crashes. Some users find the default rendering engine lacking in speed and variety, preferring to use Media Encoder for better performance and additional options. Of the 74 Adobe After Effects users who gave detailed accounts of their use of Rendering, 96% rated this feature as important or highly important.

“Rendering can be accomplished at many levels. From the proxy creation to the real-time renders for edit preview, to the final render in a single node or through an entire cloud of computers. The formats that After Effects can export into cover pretty much every need that you may have to distribute your media, and the quality of the render is great.”
Verified reviewer profile picture

Izcóatl A.

Interactive Experiences Architect

“The Rendering feature is critical to the app as it is the only way of exporting the video file that the user has edited in the software. The only thing that I do not like about this feature is that in the newer versions of After Effects, one of the formats that is needed to export videos to one's computer (the H.264 video format) is no longer available. And in order to export a video in that format, another Adobe software needs to be installed (Adobe Media Encoder). Another thing that I do not like about After Effects' rendering feature is that it requires a lot of RAM. Meaning that if you do not have enough of it on your computer, the app is very likely to crash when exporting huge video files which can be very frustrating.”

Media import

Reviewers indicate that Adobe After Effects excels in media import capabilities, supporting a wide range of formats including PSD and AI files. They appreciate the ease of importing multiple files simultaneously and the ability to handle various media types like video, audio, and images. Users find the drag-and-drop functionality particularly convenient for quickly adding media to projects. However, some mention occasional issues with certain file types and suggest improvements for a smoother import process. Of the 47 Adobe After Effects users who gave detailed accounts of their use of Media Import, 96% rated this feature as important or highly important.

“One thing that I like about the Media Import feature in After Effects is that it allows users to bring in a wide range of media types and use them in their projects. This can be very useful for creating multimedia projects that include a variety of different elements, such as video, audio, and graphics.”

Text overlay

Users report that Adobe After Effects provides powerful tools for creating text overlays, with extensive customization options for fonts, animations, and effects. They appreciate the ability to add shadows, light sweeps, and animated text, making videos more engaging. Reviewers find the text overlay feature useful for creating titles, watermarks, and explanatory texts. However, some users feel that the process can be overwhelming and time-consuming for simple text additions, suggesting a need for more streamlined options. Of the 69 Adobe After Effects users who gave detailed accounts of their use of Text Overlay, 88% rated this feature as important or highly important.

“A video can be direct or provide a grid in conveying the intent and purpose of the video in outline if I have an opening scene filled with text overlays. Adobe After Effects is very good at doing just that. By having various functions and stages that can be used in various ways in making text overlays so that I can make openings or explanations in videos in text form but not boring.”

“Something I don't like about Adobe After Effects is that text overlay tends to be slow, this software allows us to edit many aspects of our texts, so many that sometimes it becomes overwhelming when all we want to do is place text. The text overlay in After Effects is a powerful tool that can offer you a lot if you have a strong focus on creating custom typography, but if you're just looking to place a few sentences, it can be time-consuming and tedious.”

Users report that this functionality enhances workflow efficiency, especially when working with multiple layers and compositions. They also highlight the seamless integration with other Adobe products, allowing for smooth transitions between different software within the Adobe suite. Video editing

Users report that while Adobe After Effects is not primarily designed for video editing, it offers powerful tools for adding effects, animations, and transitions to video projects. They appreciate the software's capabilities for detailed compositing and special effects, often using it in conjunction with Adobe Premiere Pro for a complete editing workflow. Reviewers note that After Effects is particularly useful for creating motion graphics and visual effects, though some find the video editing process less intuitive compared to dedicated editing software. Of the 103 Adobe After Effects users who gave detailed accounts of their use of Video Editing, 85% rated this feature as important or highly important.

“Video editing is possible with After Effects, and it can do the most basic job, but this program is not for that. I wish video editing was a bit better implemented, because a lot of times now I have to switch between Adobe Premier Pro to edit the video, and After Effects to add animation/graphics. ”

Lina S.

After Effects allows for more creative freedom when it comes to creating unique visuals, and it is especially useful for creating visual effects. After Effects can be used for a variety of tasks, from creating motion graphics to adding effects to video footage. It can also be used to create titles, lower thirds, and other graphics for your video projects. It is also an invaluable tool for creating high-quality motion graphics, which can be used to enhance the look and feel of any video. After Effects can also be used to add transitions and other effects to video footage to give it a more professional look. Overall, video editing in Adobe After Effects is an invaluable tool for filmmakers, video editors, and motion graphics artists.”

User opinions about Adobe After Effects price and value

Value for money rating:

Of 58 reviews that provide robust commentary on Adobe After Effects's price and value, 29% mention it in a positive light.

Some reviewers feel that Adobe After Effects offers a comprehensive suite of features and is a powerful tool for video editing and motion graphics, making it a good value for those who can afford it. They appreciate the inclusion of other Adobe tools like Photoshop and Dreamweaver in the Creative Cloud subscription, which adds to the overall value. Some users say the trial version allows them to explore many features before committing to a purchase. However, many users report that the subscription model is expensive, especially for freelancers, small businesses, and those who do not use the software frequently. They find the cost to be a significant barrier, particularly when compared to cheaper or free alternatives that offer similar functionalities. Some users think the lack of a one-time purchase option and the need for high-end hardware further diminish the value for money. They also mention that the subscription model can become costly over time and that the price is not accessible to all beginners.

“it's a shameless upsell, where the programs are now so expensive, it costs your team a month or more of profits every year... for the "best value" offered (that same value used to be a perpetual license, which they revoked)”

Integrations rated by users

We looked at 441 user reviews to identify which products are mentioned as Adobe After Effects integrations and how users feel about them.

Integration rating: 4.8 (54)

The integration between After Effects and Premiere Pro is perfect. you don't need to render your After Effects projects, Premiere Pro does it for you. It really saves time for all my videos and I can make changes on After Effects while the project is open in Premiere. It's really perfect.

When editing video projects that combine real footage with motion graphics, Adobe's Dynamic Link functionality saves so much time. Unlike rendered graphics, edits made to linked AE projects will update the graphics in Premiere.

I always edit the videos I use in After Effects in Premier because it is easier and faster and as I said before it is not the main use of After Effects.

Because after extracting the video clip from After Effects, it can be sent to Premiere to adjust the video clip and adjust the colors of the video.

The integration with Premiere allows users to use animations in video projects directly, without the need to render the animations separately.

One of the best programs for editing videos, making movies and beautiful clips, and also using it to edit my YouTube channel video

Adobe has tethered these two together so that you can access After Effects from the Premiere timeline. Useful but not bomb-proof.

Using premiere is important so we can add our composition to our project timeline. Especially useful when working with sound.

Series of clips that are created with after effects can be effectively used in premiere pro to create a full edited video

I bring my animations into premiere from after effects using the adobe dynamic link, which has live updates as you work.

The dynamic link feature between Premiere and After Effects is truly a lifesaver! Thank you adobe for being awesome!

I use Ae to create many assets which I then export to premiere. I sometimes edit them while being in premiere.

Using both products is the best way to work, for me. Premiere for main edit and AE for animations and MOGRTS.

I create Logos, transitions, templates and effects that I then import to Premiere Pro for video editing

We can combine both projects file's and create and edit video's. By diynamic link.

After effects natively supports photoshop as they are made by Adobe and when I need to edit I picture I easily switch to photoshop without leaving After effects or exporting the image then when done automatically the image is edited in After effects too.

The integration is cool but is not very important for my use as exporting my photoshop images would result in the same thing except for simultaneous modifications while both softwares are open.

Elements you design in Photoshop are vital for helping with your final project in After Effects. They essentially go hand-in-hand to make a beautiful production.

After drawing or modifying the image in the Photoshop program, it can be sent to the After Effects program to move it and make it a moving model

After Effects allows you to import your Photoshop files and manipulate their layers which makes Photoshop highly compatible.

I use photoshop to create assets, like shapes and graphics, and then export them to Ae to add motion or SFX.

You can do what you need to in After Effects, but photoshop is helpful at times with image editing.

I work a lot in Photoshop. After Effects allows live, real-time updates between the applications.

To create photos as a cover page or as a thumbnail for the video edited with after effects

It is essential to have a image editing software to combine it with this video editor.

integrates perfectly for bringing in photoshop files and images and recognises layers.

its like bread and butter plus like I said creative cloud has both included

After Effects allows you to import your Illustrator files and manipulate their layers which makes Illustrator fairly compatible.

Being able to create illustrations and then have them ready in After Effects with a single click helps me reduce my work times.

The ability to add vector drawings into After Effects is so powerful. These can also be turned into 3D assets as well.

I think that the integration could be better, with illustrator lines being more easily imported and after effects.

I use Illustratorto create assets, like shapes and graphics, and then export them to Ae to add motion or SFX.

Preparing the MOGRTS on Illustrator or a Character to animate, and then using AE to animate it.

Bring your vector designs right into After Effects to start animating them!

In a professional setting, when you're rendering lots of projects and assets, Media Encoder lets you render multiple videos in the background, so you can continue working in After Effects or Premiere.

For exporting videos, media encoder is super important and makes the process at the output of after effects easier, media encoder is a plus but after effects can be used as well individually.

I use Media Encoder to render and export the video files (that I edited in After Effects) in H.264 video format.

This software cuts down file size and render time astronomically and saves us designers thousands of dollars

I use this integration daily, as I mainly render my videos in Media Encoder via After Effects.
