anosave overview
What is anosave?
anosave is a browser-based tool that replaces personal data in documents with placeholder tokens before they are sent to an AI service, and translates the AI answer back locally. It is an installable PWA; all processing runs in the browser and nothing is uploaded, which you can verify in the network tab.
Detection: around 30 types of personal data, including names, organisations, addresses, email, phone, IBAN, credit card, passport, IP address, dates and amounts, plus Austrian identifiers such as social security number, tax, VAT (UID) and company register numbers, ZVR number, file and case numbers, licence plates, personnel numbers and metering point IDs. IBAN and social security numbers are validated by checksum.
Formats: TXT, MD, CSV and RTF without an account; DOCX, ODT, XLSX, PDF and HTML with a free account. Scanned PDFs are handled by in-browser OCR (Plus and Pro). Plus returns Word, ODT and Excel files in their original format (PDFs as Word or Excel). Pro adds a redacted image-only PDF with no text in the file.
Control and security: the same value gets the same token across documents (multiple documents from the Ad-free plan). Plus adds AES-256-GCM encrypted tokens, column selection for XLSX, PDF and CSV, and a PII editor to review, add or discard findings. Pro adds custom regex and entity profiles, industry profiles and removal of macros from .xlsm files.
