Power BI Connector for Salesforce overview
What is Power BI Connector for Salesforce?
Power BI Connector for Salesforce is a Salesforce-native application for delivering governed CRM data to Microsoft Power BI and embedding Power BI reports back into Salesforce. It is designed for organizations with large data volumes, customized Salesforce schemas, and reporting requirements that exceed manual exports or standard connector limits.
The connector is installed and administered inside Salesforce, with no external middleware or integration infrastructure to maintain. Users can create Power BI data sources from standard and custom objects, installed packages, historical trending data, and existing Salesforce reports. Tabular, summary, matrix, and joined reports can be converted into editable data sources without manually recreating their object and field selections.
A visual builder allows users to select objects and fields, configure source-side filters, and preview results before export. Basic filtering supports common conditions such as dates, owners, and statuses, while SOQL mode provides advanced query control. An interactive entity relationship diagram helps users explore objects, fields, and relationships in complex Salesforce environments.
Saved data sources generate Power Query connections for Power BI Desktop and can be refreshed through Power BI Service. The connector exports data without row limits and supports incremental refresh, allowing Power BI to retrieve new or updated records instead of reloading complete datasets during every refresh.
Security and administration remain controlled through Salesforce. The connector uses read-only, permission-aware access and follows Salesforce permissions, sharing rules, and field-level security. Power BI connections use individually managed personal access tokens that can be revoked when required. Data sources can be shared without exposing the owner’s token, and audit logs record data source changes, exports, and token activity.
Power BI reports can also be embedded inside Salesforce and arranged as dashboard widgets. Embedded reports can use Salesforce data or information from other business systems, while access remains governed by Microsoft Power BI authorization.
Power BI Connector for Salesforce is suited to BI, analytics, RevOps, sales operations, finance, and customer success teams that need scalable Salesforce reporting in Power BI. Metrica provides installation guidance, product documentation, trials, demonstrations, and technical support for configuration and production use.
