Independent research methodology
Our researchers use a mix of verified reviews, independent research, and objective methodologies to bring you selection and ranking information you can trust. While we may earn a referral fee when you visit a provider through our links or speak to an advisor, this has no influence on our research or methodology.
Verified user reviews
GetApp maintains a proprietary database of millions of in-depth, verified user reviews across thousands of products in hundreds of software categories. Our data scientists apply advanced modeling techniques to identify key insights about products based on those reviews. We may also share aggregated ratings and select excerpts from those reviews throughout our site.
Our human moderators verify that reviewers are real people and that reviews are authentic. They use leading tech to analyze text quality and to detect plagiarism and generative AI.
How GetApp ensures transparency
GetApp lists all providers across its website—not just those that pay us—so that users can make informed purchase decisions. GetApp is free for users. Software providers pay us for sponsored profiles to receive web traffic and sales opportunities. Sponsored profiles include a link-out icon that takes users to the provider’s website.

Secure Desk overview
What is Secure Desk?
SecureDesk is a secure, self-hosted remote support and device management platform designed for IT teams, help desks, MSPs, and organizations that want greater control over how remote access is delivered and protected.
SecureDesk provides both attended and unattended remote access to Windows devices, allowing technicians to support end users in real time or securely manage computers, servers, kiosks, and other endpoints when users are not present. Its self-hosted architecture keeps organizations in control of the infrastructure used to coordinate remote sessions rather than relying on a third-party remote access cloud.
Security is built into the platform from the ground up. SecureDesk uses end-to-end encryption between the technician and remote endpoint, while the self-hosted relay forwards encrypted session traffic without access to the encryption keys. This means the relay cannot view session content such as screens, keystrokes, or transferred files.
SecureDesk also uses outbound-only endpoint connections, eliminating the need to expose remote computers through inbound firewall rules or port forwarding. This architecture makes it easier for organizations to provide remote support while reducing unnecessary exposure of internal systems.
For attended support, technicians can quickly create one-time sessions and provide users with a secure connection link or session code. Users can launch a portable Windows connector, allowing technicians to provide assistance without requiring permanent software installation.
For devices that require ongoing management, SecureDesk supports unattended access through an installed Windows service. Authorized technicians can remotely access enrolled endpoints across login, lock, and reboot scenarios, making the platform suitable for employee workstations, servers, kiosks, shared computers, and other managed Windows systems.
SecureDesk also includes Backstage access for advanced troubleshooting. Authorized technicians can launch SYSTEM-level Command Prompt or PowerShell sessions without taking control of the user's desktop. IT teams can perform administrative tasks, troubleshoot services, review logs, and run commands while minimizing disruption to the end user.
Additional capabilities include multi-monitor support, mouse and keyboard control, two-way clipboard access, secure file transfer, chat, voice communication, session recording, and administrative elevation.
Organizations can manage technician access with role-based permissions and authentication options including TOTP, Microsoft Entra, and Google SSO. Audit capabilities provide additional visibility into remote support activity and help organizations maintain oversight of who is accessing managed systems.
SecureDesk can be deployed using an organization's own infrastructure, including Linux virtual machines or Docker environments. This gives businesses greater control over their remote support environment, security configuration, and data.
By combining secure remote access, unattended device management, privileged troubleshooting, communication tools, file transfer, centralized administration, and end-to-end encryption, SecureDesk provides IT teams with a powerful alternative to traditional cloud-based remote support platforms.
