I needed a safe, on prem option to g-drive and onedrive.
It is easy to get the server up and running and it is easy to maintain and update. Security updates comes frequently and it is easy to update. The desktop client and mobile app is working flawless.
Had some initial problems with setup and installing certificates. Some third-party addons can make the product instable.

The great community behind the product, and of course supporting FOSS.
Immaturity of inline office suite functionality. That is a major disadvantage when comparing to OneDrive, Google Drive, and others.

We use Nextcloud for filesharing and storage and it's a good self-0hosted alternative to things like Google Drive or OneDrive.
It's got a nice sync functionality that works well and is unobtrusive. you can have file structures on your computer that automatically sync with the server, and it's easy to create sharable links.
Sometimes setting up what syncs is a bit cumbersome.

It's a great piece of open source software with a ton of functionality. It is a great alternative to platforms like Google Drive or OneDrive.
NextCloud is very easy to set up and allows a great amount of customization. There are a ton of apps available to add to your configuration so you can set it up just the way that works for you. You can integrate Nextcloud login with your own website using OAuth. The customization is almost endless so you can set it up just how you like it.
The pricing can become complicated and quite expensive when using Nextcloud with some paid apps. Other than that I can't really complain about the functionality of the software, it has everything it should have.

NextCloud has done exactly what we've needed it to: provided an easy, open source way to run our own private cloud for storage of data we don't want to put in Google Drive. Easy to use, great desktop apps, lots of functionality (near parity with other cloud apps). It does what we need it to do, and I haven't had any issues with it.
The ease of deployment of NextCloud (I'm using a Snap container) is ridiculously easy. The interface for a free and open source app is amazing! I love the ability to customize the login screen and it integrates well with Active Directory. It's easy to setup once installed as well. The Windows and Mac apps work like a champ.
Some of the functionality I'm used to in OneDrive or Google Drive (right-clicks and other minor UI issues) doesn't exist in NC. It's a mostly Web 2.0 app, but a few changes would make it almost perfect.

Very positive alternative to cloud-based solutions, which adds privacy but less redundancy. I am not surrendering OneDrive, but possibly running NextCloud in parallel for a longer-term test. The pairing with a cloud system may be a good option too.
Free version is very flexible; Runs even on SBC-like raspberry pi; but scales up to much more powerful versions and use of External NAS on network for full featured netwoking . Also, like the value of third-party plugins that add many features.
Slightly complex to install and manage all of the features, but not too impossible. For privacy concerns, this may be a worthwhile trade-off.
Thank you for the great review! :)

The sync workflow is seamless, and have nothing but great things to say about it, and the add-on plugins are excellent, and the ability to share files with customers and friends is most useful. It's excellent to be able to put aside tools like Dropbox and gain data freedom.
I like the ability for NC to seamlessly sync files between systems, allowing easy access to my files anywhere.
There are a few small features which would be really nice to have, such as automatic selective stub sync to workstations as OneDrive does, allowing you to have a dataset which appears local but only the used files are synced.

We like the possibility that we can use Nextcloud as a post box for guests, who want to share documents with us. We implemented a link to our website where customers are being redirected to and there they can upload files. This is not possible in OneDrive. That's why we chose Nextcloud.
Too many redundant services. You can use tags, share docs in Circles (group of users), share docs in Nextcloud Talk. But everywhere you have to select the group again. I don't understand the purpose of Circles if I separated my users with the group function already.

Removal of inflated mail files due to attachments. Since sharing per folder unit is possible, it can be used as shared storage with business partners per project unit, and information can be shared in real-time. Information is frequently managed individually because users can be organized.
Although dependent on the rental server, the system is currently stable and is useful for pulling data and making backups. The build and setup require some skill, but if you can complete it, you can get a low cost and a high degree of freedom. When I was worried about large mail files on each PC, I discovered that I could send files by URL.
As for the abundance of add-ons and insufficient localization, it is a waste of treasure because it is not possible to expand functions without knowing how to use them. It is not as collaborative as OneDrive versus Microsoft Office or Google Drive versus Google Docs. Similar to Microsoft Office, I would like to have a system that enables multiple users to edit the same document simultaneously.

We use Nextcloud to store all of our company files. We use several shared areas for different groups of people (ie game assets and files, legal files and marketing resources)
The software is free to use Everything is simple to setup through the browser There are mobile and desktop clients so files can be accessed on any device and synced to a folder on your PC for easier access It is easy to share files with other people
There are normally 1-5 hidden files of metadata on the root directory of each user's area - this can be annoying if you can see hidden files on your computer It would be good to have better integration with Microsoft Office, including having NextCloud as a shared area that you can save directly to (both on PC and mobile) A special section in File Explorer is not setup like OneDrive or Dropbox - instead it syncs to a folder (although this can be pinned to quick access)
Hi Joshua! We're glad you are happy with Nextcloud! Stay tuned wrt the special section in File Explorer, we might just be working on something ;-) If you want to get the most out of Nextcloud, don't forget we have Nextcloud Subscriptions available. That improves much on the community help aimed at home users like you'll find on the forums and gives access to additional documentation and capabilities like our Outlook integration, Global Scale for higher scaelability, lower cost and data locality control and more. Take care!
