Pros

Customer service is outstanding. This product does everything we need to run our business from payroll to inventory.
Sage50 is a widely used product for a good reason. Sage is very user friendly and combines many of the necessary items for businesses.
Overall, a good piece of software and it still does exactly what you need it to do.

Pros

User friendly design that is easy to learn and navigate, great for invoicing people as well as paying invoices, good organization of invoices and payments.
Quickbooks is the bread and butter of my business, it is the best accounting program I have used. I love that it continues to improve and allow more integration with apps and documentation programs.
The help on the team when getting this product was great, the features are honestly really great, I use it for payroll as well and it is really worth the cost.

Cons

Difficult to find problem relating to prior year. Lack of Efficiency while entering Journal Entry.
But as you begin to actually understand accounting and your bookkeeping goes on and on you discover some very frightening things about Quickbooks.
We are also constrained by the # of fields within the payroll module--as far as the category in which the employee worked. We also lament the lack of integration with our bank, microsoft programs etc.

Cons

Submitting hours for the wrong week unintentionally can be frustrating because there is no way to reverse it without supervisor permissions.
The customer service is terrible. I usually get forwarded from person to person because I'm in the "wrong department," but I know it's because the person just doesn't know the answer.
No recourse through customer service. Data is held hostage as leverage for stopping cancellation of unauthorized charges, ie: sure you can cancel but we're not sure what will happen to your data.

Great product, but you have to know how to use it

I consult with small businesses and some of my clients use/used Sage 50. My Sage 50 clients work in services, merchandise (drop shipping), transportation, and manufacturing. Sage 50 is a great software, but from what I've seen it takes a while to learn.

Pros

I'm a CPA and small business consultant. I have worked with some clients that use/used Sage 50. Sage 50 has a lot of good accounting functionality and makes it possible to record transactions and review reports, which is what an accounting software should do.

Cons

My main complaint about Sage 50 is the lack of documentation/support. I've used and recommend QuickBooks frequently because QuickBooks has easy to access phone/chat/online support and there are tutorials all over the web. I wish Sage 50 had more support like QuickBooks.

Possibilities are endless

Sage 50 has the capability of being as good as if not better than QuickBooks; however, it is in desperate need of Service Techs do not have the ability to resolve issues, they send emails with links to help pages that don't resolve the problem. There is no reason why Sage 50 should be able to resolve the fact that transactions are posted in the general ledger but don't show up on the reconciliation screen. There is no reason why there isn't any capability of merging customers, vendors, etc when employees have duplicated accounts unnecessarily. The class they want you to take and complete in 90 days while working full time in a new position, is also antiquated. The classes don't coincide with the manuals which are full of errors and typos.

Pros

It is similar to Sage Timberline

Cons

It severely lacks in functionality that you have with QuickBooks and Sage Timberline.

Lack of flexibility, fairly poor support. No choice of other software from Sage with more flexability.

Pros

Software observes standard accounting principles. No "Other" vendors, excessive flexibility seen in QuickBooks.

Cons

Much too rigid, worked with this software when it was Peachtree, and since change to Sage 100, no change to software in 20 years.

Very BAD customer service

The most frustrating was the customer service experience. We were not able to get call back numbers, they continually charged our credit card for service we could not access. Once we closed our account they continued to charge us for an additional 6 months. We would spend hours on the phone with seemingly helpful individuals who obviously knew nothing. Promises to call back were not followed up - they set up 3 accounts that they found confusing, we called every month for help and nothing was resolved. I am now filing fraud charges.

Pros

The salespeople were not helpful. They were good at selling the software but were not able to live up to any of the promises of customer support. We had to cancel our first subscription. They gave incorrect compatibility information and were even less helpful getting us onto the cloud based software.

Cons

It should have been easier than it was. We have gone back to using Quickbooks

Sage Peachtree is better...not easier

I have used both for several years. There is no question that Sage/Peachtree is not as "user-friendly" as Quickbooks...at least for the first month or two. But as you begin to actually understand accounting and your bookkeeping goes on and on you discover some very frightening things about Quickbooks. They put everything onto one, big, gigantic database-unlike almost every other accounting system...

Pros

Usually lower in price. It doesn't try to hide the "debits and credits" as much as quickbooks does. In the long run that is a good thing. You will learn real accounting much quicker with peachtree than quickbooks (and you should learn it anyway).

Cons

Peachtree is not as popular as quickbooks so there are not as many "3rd party add ons" available. If there is some particular 3rd party add on you need to use and only quickbooks has it then the decision is made for you.

It is definitely getting better and better but still lagging behind Xero or QuickBooks

Pros

It now does most, if not all of the things expected from online software for bookkeeping and accounts.

Cons

The feel is still old fashioned, not very intuitive, though for people coming from desktop Sage this should not be a problem. Still not many apps link with Sage, compared to e.g. Xero

Worst experience ever

I had one call and because the tech rep could not stay on the phone while I did as he asked, he did up a ticket...which he immediately closed. When I called back in they could not / would not reopen that ticket. I got pushed to sales and they would not give me back my one support call. That rep said I could speak with a supervisor, then pushed me back to tech. When I called in, someone took my name for the supervisor to call me back, and that never happened. This is the worst customer service I have seen in years. Meanwhile my newly purchased upgrade, is not doing what it is supposed to. Thanks for nothing Sage!

Pros

Fine once you get used to it; it is not as user friendly as Quickbooks

The use of Sage over Quickbooks is a total 360. It's so easy to navigate and find the transactions and reports you need to use.

Pros

I use this software at my actual job. I like the ease of use so much that I am switching to using it at my second job.

Cons

Tax code formulas, if something is missing I have no idea how to correct it.

Day to Day Use of Sage

Sage is allowing us to produce up to date cash flow forecasts enabling us to better manage the business.

Pros

The desktop is easy to navigate. The personalisation of invoices and reports allows you to put your own stamp on the produc.

Cons

Sage has a tendenc=y to get 'clogged' up at times and can freeze which irritating.

I like Sage because it is a powerful accounting software, but it needs to improve some of its features

Pros

It is professional software for accountants. It is fast and has no downtime.

Cons

It is far behind QuickBooks Online. Sage needs to improve its user interface. it is okay for an accountant to use but I found it hard for clients to work with it.

This a less expensive way to get a decent bookkeeping software for your small company.

Pros

This program is a good software for a small business. It is not as intuitive as Quickbooks, but you can maneuver around the product. It meets the basic financial needs of a small business.

Cons

The software will not grow with your company. IF your company grows, you will need to switch to a more powerful software offering more flexibility in custom and stock reports.

Good SMB accounting software

Great basic accounting software

Pros

Sage 50 is great for startups and SMBs looking to upgrade from quickbooks or freshbooks. The reporting functionality is a little obtuse, but it's much more powerful than what's available through other low cost solutions.

Cons

The software feels outdated and has a couple of small, annoying bugs. For example, if you connect to Sage via wifi and then ethernet, sometimes it will count that as two users logging in.

Good option for non-profits

Pros

Installed for a large non-profit and meets their needs for accounting. They do not use any addons such as payroll, but meets all other needs. Up there with Quickbooks as one of the best accounting tools.

Cons

On a local install there are issues with licensing, say if a user account gets locked up and you close the program, the server still thinks the user is signed in and it will give an error for that user at the next login. No known workaround aside from user reboot.

Business practices

Sage 50 has performed inconsistently for the past year. We migrated from the desktop version. We intermittently required their support to reestablish connection to our network. Today they refused to assist unless we upgraded our support at 2X the cost. Sketchy business practices.

Pros

History data is valuable for review of trends

Cons

Business practices are unprofessional at best.

Sage Peachtree - Great Alternative to Quickbooks

Hi have used Quickbooks for many years until someone recommended to me Peachtree. It is actually a very complete accounting solution and I think that even a junior accountant would be able to use this tool immediately.

Es fácil equilibrar su cuenta corriente y realizar un seguimiento de los gastos de la libreta de cheques.

Pros

Lo más útil de QuickBooks Online es la opción Cuentas por pagar. Creo que las organizaciones hacen un seguimiento de las cosas que son más valiosas para mí. Tengo más de 100 empleados y, como puede imaginar, mi vida está bastante ocupada.

Looking to switch

Easy to use and train others.

Pros

Syncs with ADP payroll for easy payroll general ledger journal entry; works okay for basic accounting needs (AR/AP).

Cons

Many users are not trained with Sage (quickbooks is more common), poor customer service, does not sync with other databases that my company uses; invoicing is cumbersome; adding multiple users is expensive; cannot have more than 1 user in software at a time.

It gets the job done!

The software is pretty self explanatory meaning I don't believe new users would require additional training in order to use the product. I think if they would develop a better adjustment scenario (ie. Journal Entry adjustments) I think this product would rate up there with QuickBooks. This product is definitely worth the look!

Pros

The customer service at Sage is extremely helpful! I have had to call multiple times, and each and every time they patiently help me through my problem. I think it's great if you have a small to medium sized manufacturing business and want something to keep track of everything.

Cons

Comparing the software to QuickBooks, I think there is a lack of efficiency in entering Journal Entries especially when you happen to find a problem that originated in a prior year. Other than that, I think the software is great for recording daily transactions and keeping track of inventory (for small to medium businesses).

Sage 50 is a functional bookkeeping software for small businesses.

Excellent inventory tracking.

Pros

This software is great for small businesses like ours who have a huge inventory list (8,000 plus items), and customer support gives quality service.

Cons

This software makes you close out each month before the system date will change to the current month. This takes some time to do that monthly (and seems unnecessary to me) but time spent can be kept in check if you keep your records up to date and balance daily/weekly. Payroll is less user friendly than Quickbooks and updates are harder to apply.

1. Relatively easy to learn 2. Payroll function is simple and efficient 3. Reconciliations are simple

Cons

1. Cannot find a way to save invoices and pay stubs directly to PDF on my computer. I have to print them out and then scan them so they can be saved as PDF, which is more time consuming. 2. Sometimes it is difficult to reverse a transaction or paycheque if you make an error. 3. Reports function is not as good as QuickBooks.

QB is easy to learn and very good for a beginner. I've used Sage which has amazing reporting that is so much better for what we do. Sage is much easier to pull exactly what we need and organize it. QB is a bit messy in the way the reports look.

Pros

Easy to teach. Easy to use and navigate around. New learners can watch many online videos to learn.

Cons

Reporting is not good. For accounting software the reporting is difficult to pull what we need. The reports do not look as professional as Sage.

I am new to accounting software and just learning the basics, I was confident using QBs and never questioned if I was doing it correctly.

Pros

This accounting software is so versatile and easy to use, from installation to entering journal entries. I used Sage first and it made me hate accting software, so glad we switched

Cons

Honestly speaking not sure that there was anything that I disliked about this software unlike Sage 50.

Canadians should not buy this software

The accountant loved it. And am fairly certain he got a kickback on it.

Pros

All accountants get it for free and encourage the clients to do the same. In the US you are able to migrate from most accounting software including Sage to them

Cons

In Canada there is no support for switching from other accounting programs. Customer service and technical support will give you run around. Same goes for their social media. They all try to push you towards online subscriptions. Promise full migration and then when you start pointing out that same was promised on multiple Knowledge base articles for desktop say it for US only even when it specifically says for Canada. Please do not waste your money they obviously consider Canadians as second class citizens of the world.
