Astah UML overview
What is Astah UML?
Astah UML is a desktop UML modeling tool developed by Change Vision, Inc.
Diagrams: UML 2.x class, use case, sequence, activity, state machine, and other UML diagrams, plus mind maps.
AI: AI Chat Copilot, AI Code Reverse, and a local MCP server. All AI features require your own API key from a supported AI service (OpenAI, Azure OpenAI, Claude, Gemini, or an OpenAI-compatible endpoint).
Code: reverse-engineer Java source code into class diagrams. Free plug-ins add C# and C++ source import, PHP and C code generation, and template-based code generation for other languages.
Integrations: Microsoft Word and Excel (Office Integration plug-in), Miro, PlantUML, Mermaid, Redmine, FreeMind, and GitHub or Bitbucket repositories through free plug-ins. A Java API and plug-in SDK are available for custom extensions.
Platform and security: runs on Windows, macOS, and Linux. Models are saved as local files, so no cloud storage is required.
Licensing: monthly and annual subscriptions, plus floating and organizational licenses for teams. Free Student License for students. A 20-day free trial is available.
