4.0/5 (1 review)

Double-Take Cloud overview

Double-Take Cloud combines backup and recovery with pay-as-you-go infrastructure to provide a simple, easy to acquire, easy to use, and easy to own solution that gives you the protection you need. You don't have to settle for a shoebox full of questionable backup tapes, or an incomplete on-line backup solution, and you definitely don't have to create a big IT project to get complete full server protection and rapid recovery for all your servers.

Double-Take Cloud provides real-time server replication that captures all changes to your data and applications and securely stores them in the Amazon EC2 (Elastic Compute Cloud) infrastructure. Businesses of any size can create a highly efficient and effective disaster recovery plan by leveraging the cloud computing Recovery as a Service (RaaS) model, eliminating the need for costly dedicated DR data centers and the associated hardware, software, real estate, power, cooling and management overhead. When needed, you can recover to the cloud servers, paying only for the space and capacity used, and only for the time you use them. Key Benefits Real-time replication protects all of the data, and full-server protection includes everything you need, including the data, programs, and the system configuration. You don’t need to know what’s important, and you don’t have to worry about what you forgot to include. When you need to recover, everything is included, even the files you just saved this morning. Cross-platform protection means that you don’t have to replace a failed server with the same type of hardware. You can replace your old, broken system with shiny, new, state-of-the-art equipment from any vendor you want, and Double-Take Cloud will make the old configuration fit perfectly, no questions asked. Cloud recovery means that you always have replacement equipment standing by, but you only pay for it when you need it, and only for as long as you need it. You can be back up and running quickly, without having to select, order, pay for and wait for new equipment to be delivered. Setup is fast and easy. If you are reading about this at breakfast, you can be protected by lunch time. And help is just a phone call away. Double-Take has protected tens of thousands of servers, just like yours – join the club! Easily test the recovery of your server, before you need it, without disturbing your production systems.

As robust a replication as you can need, but be sure it's what you need

We had to learn and identify those very specific use cases where Carbonite Availability was without any doubt the best tool for replication. Mostly, those few servers which are the most critical for the organization, and require the highest possible uptime. Sometimes we struggle to get it running whenever the origin server was installed with a non-standard operating system media, since the software needs a clean OS with exactly the same version is installed in the secondary site.Double Take, currently known as Carbonite Availability since it no longer belongs to Vision Solutions, delivers on every single feature it offers. It doesn't matter the server deployment model on either the primary or any of the secondary sites you have, whether you are using bare metal servers, public clouds, or any private cloud or virtualization technology, you can replicate. If your telecommunication infraestructure allows it, you'll get that near-zero RPOs and RTOs critical for your business. Carbonite did a great job redesigning the licensing model, now you need only the license for the origin server, a not for destinations, which allows Carbonite Availability to compete with other vendors.

Maybe the most common use of the Double-Take Cloud
solution set is creating an off-site, rapidly recoverable backup
system for a production server set. Many organizations
do not have the technical staff or physical space required
to create and host an off-site datacenter, but still need the
ability to recovery critical servers and services in the event of
a loss at their primary location.

Instead of attempting to provision an entire alternate datacenter
ahead of time, or hoping to provision one quickly at
the time of an emergency, the cloud can be used to provide
the best of both worlds. Double-Take Cloud installs on your
critical production servers and replicates data and system
state information into a cloud-based Repository. Since only
the Repository is running on a day-to-day basis, the amount
of infrastructure needed at the CVS is minimal and more
easily justifi able.

Replication is performed at the byte-level and occurs as
quickly as either your internet links or the limits you set
within the Double-Take Cloud software allow. This provides
WAN-effi cient replication of all critical information from multiple
production servers, providing near-real-time replication
if suffi cient bandwidth is available. Even if throttling must
be used due to bandwidth constraints, Double-Take Cloud
still allows you recover up to the last byte of information
