Lag with complex diagrams

Customer Success

Day-to-day diagramming is intuitive enough, but anything beyond that layering, data linking, conditional formatting took meaningful time to figure out, and not everyone had the bandwidth to get there. And on slower or shared network connections, which was a reality in some of our office setups, the tool could lag during live sessions, which was frustrating when working with someone in real time.

Principal Developer

Due to browser-based application, we sometimes experience performance issues and lag when working with large or complex designs.

79% of reviewers feel negative about Performance and Speed. Users report that the platform can become slow or unresponsive when working with large or complex diagrams, especially during real-time collaboration. Reviewers mention that browser-based limitations, heavy graphics, and internet connectivity issues can cause lag, freezing, or slow loading times. Many say these delays disrupt workflow, make it harder to track changes, and can even result in lost work if the application crashes or times out.

Challenging line and arrow control

Client Partner Director

Straightening the connector lines between shapes occasionally feels clunky and lacks precise control.

59% of reviewers feel negative about Lines and Arrows. Users frequently mention frustration with connecting shapes, as lines and arrows can be finicky, difficult to straighten, or snap to unwanted positions. Reviewers say that rearranging objects often leads to misplaced or awkwardly routed connectors, requiring manual adjustments. Many users find the lack of precise control and snapping features makes it tedious to create clean, organized diagrams, especially when dealing with complex charts or numerous connections.

Export and import limitations

teacher assistant

For example, I am unable to export my diagrams in high-resolution without upgrading to a paid plan.

40% of reviewers feel negative about Export and Import. Users report challenges exporting diagrams to other formats or software, noting issues with formatting, resolution, and compatibility. Reviewers mention that importing files or images can be cumbersome, and that some export options are only available in paid plans. Many users say exporting large or complex diagrams often results in incomplete or low-quality outputs, and that transferring files between different platforms or versions can be problematic.

Limited customization flexibility

Customer Success Manager

My biggest issue with Lucidchart is the ability to copy and paste images in and out of the canvas.

46% of reviewers feel negative about Customization Options. Users report difficulties with customizing icons, images, and formatting within diagrams. Reviewers mention that the selection of icons is limited, some controls are unintuitive, and certain actions like moving or editing elements can be cumbersome. Many users find it challenging to navigate large documents, adjust page layouts, or use advanced formatting features, which can slow down their workflow and limit creative options.

Restrictive and costly pricing

Coordinador de mesa

The only bad thing about this website is that in order to use it and be able to edit your diagram unlimitedly, you have to pay a subscription.

Business Analyst Student

The only thing i dislike about lucidchart that some of its features are premium and it can get costly overtime paying monthly subscription for personal use.

40% of reviewers feel negative about Pricing. Users express dissatisfaction with the subscription model, stating that many essential features are locked behind paid plans. Reviewers mention that the free version is restrictive, with limits on documents and features, and that the cost of upgrading can be prohibitive for individuals or small teams. Many users are frustrated by frequent upsell prompts, complicated licensing structures, and difficulties with billing or canceling subscriptions.

Versatile flowchart creation

Digital Account Manager

Lucid Charts is one of the easiest tools I have ever used to create flow charts and wireframes. If you ever need to make a client understand a complicated process, you can easily model the process in flow charts using the drag and drop feature of the tool.

95% of reviewers feel positive about Flowcharts. Users say the drag-and-drop interface, wide range of templates, and extensive shape libraries make it easy to create both simple and complex flowcharts. Reviewers appreciate the flexibility to customize diagrams, the ability to collaborate on flowcharts with others, and the intuitive UI that speeds up the diagramming process. Many users highlight how quickly they can turn ideas into polished visuals, which helps them communicate processes clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.

Managing Director

Another feature we rely is the ability to connect diagrams with live Excel and Google sheet data, ensuring our network documentations and project dashboards always reflect the latest information.

conditional formating with ai : using natural language to say for ex: "highlight all nodes with a latency over 50 ms in red " works efficiently and save you a lot of time by automating dull tasks that takes time especially in huge projects.

As a Customer Success Manager, I was constantly trying to explain multi-step workflows including account onboarding, escalation paths, resolution timelines to stakeholders who didn't always have the same context I did.

the other hand, lucidchart has much broader library of non-technical shapes (like org charts, business processes) that eraser lacks

Digital Marketing Specialist

Version control and template changes seem to be out of sync. When someone is shown a diagram that was edited by a colleague and notices some unexpected layout changes that do not have a clear revision trail, it is literally disorienting.

Real Estate Agent

Lucidchart enabled Villalba Propiedades to streamline property workflows and visualize project milestones, making client presentations easier to comprehend and in-house coordination better.

Language Instructor

An extremely strong diagramming tool, the limits placed on simple shapes by the paywall pricing structure can be annoyed by a non-profit making or small school.

The Trade-off: DRaw.io's UI is significantly more dated, and its real-time collaboration is less seamless than lucidchart's "multiplayer" cursor experience.

Working with classmates or discussing ideas with professors on a shared canvas feels smooth and reliable, with live edits and comments that make group work much easier.

Sometimes when I work on one small-sized project and check out the task manager ,the browser tab of this lucidchart project is consuming about 1 GB of RAM .i

wonder what will happen if the case of a multiple medium-sized projects and big-sized projects with a lucid's realtime communication layer ,i think it will be hard for a normal laptop in this case without stuttering.

Lucidchart let me put those flows on a page in a way that just made sense visually, and people actually engaged with it rather than scrolling past a long email.

The Google Workspace integration also meant adoption was relatively smooth diagrams sat in Drive just like any other file, so there was no friction around access.

Marketing Data Ops Lead

For larger or more complex diagrams (such as detailed data flows or multi-system architectures), performance can occasionally slow down, making edits slightly less smooth.

Senior System Administrator

The pricing can be a turn off for some people as it is a little on the pricer side when compared to Visio web that is included in most business M365 subscriptions.

Before it, most of what I was producing to explain workflows was either a wall of text or a rough diagram thrown together in PowerPoint that never quite looked right.

Some users note occasional difficulty in modifying templates to unique client requirements, and sophisticated capabilities require small agency teams to learn about these in a timely manner.

People Operations Specialist II

The ONLY thing that comes to mind that I don't like about Lucidchart is that sometimes when placing an arrow from one box to another, the arrow placement can be really finicky and sensitive.

Lead Project Manager

It also provides a huge variety of template libraries for all kinds of project design purposes.

A flowchart/diagram maker like Lucidchart, you can visualize the steps you will take to execute marketing campaigns, client journeys, and company processes.

Senior RPA Developer

I use it mainly for creating high-level flowcharts of business processes and it just has all the required shapes and connectors for accurate mapping and supports quick import to word using the Lucid Chart Add-in

Informatics Engineer

It integrates well with other tools that exist in our tech stack making it a great tool for sketching and sharing flowcharts, diagrams, professional charts, presentations and illustrations that simplifies team's brainstorming and project management

SR SYS Administrator

They have tons of premade templates, and a massive template library to look in.

Programmer

It has been a platform that gives me the option of generating more fun diagrams and not presenting the normal boring diagrams, I express my best ideas and in a creative way the entire organization of the information is created with customization and with the help of AI it makes everything easier to do.

It's been alright, but at the same time the tiered features for licensing are frustrating to deal with. But it is a very solid product that just works with very little configuration and set up.

IT Operations Manager

It is fantastic tool for creating organization chart, flowcharts & any visual projects. And we can collaborate with a team & work on it simultaneously.

It's really easy for me to create detailed flowcharts and visualize new processes for my teams!

Executive Vice President at FEVO

Some advanced features require a bit of learning, and large diagrams can become harder to manage over time.

Senior Frontend Engineer.
