Our tool of choice for managing product requirements

2017-11-14

Pros

It has excellent customization capabilities and very good reporting. We managed also to quite easily integrate it with git.

Cons

Hard to migrate to from Trello in our example.

Everything I need, almost

2017-02-24

It wins JIRA and TRELLO in my opinion.

Pros

- online support - design concept (all objects and concepts underneath make sense and super flexible) - performance - upgrade frequently

Cons

- no integration with github (ticket number is hard to use) - no integration with Confluence - no integrated ticket/support desk

Recommendations to others considering Targetprocess

Although I LOVE this product very much, I often find it's so hard to train non-engineers to use it. Business people simple don't have this 'object oriented thinking'. Views-Data-Flow design and how Epic/sprint/releases etc. related to each other... that just seem to NEVER understood by my sales teams and some stakeholders. It's too flexible for them. Yet, they play a very important part in what tools to buy. solutions guys? ;-)

We reviewed several platforms, we are still happy with our choice with Targetprocess

2018-09-14

Before Targetprocess we tried several other platforms; trello didn't have enough structure to be able to track software feature requests from start to finish effectively, Pivotal Tracker wasn't flexible enough and wasn't easily able to track other components of scrum outside the sprint itself.

Pros

The flexibility this software is capable of providing is second to none.

Cons

I found it necessary to train users when introducing them to the software partly because the GUI isn't entirely intuitive.

Great piece of software

2016-06-27

We tested a number of different project management systems (Trello, Basecamp, Jira software among others) before finally finding Target Process.

Pros

Simple to use, logical, easy to get a quick overview or to drill down in to the details. Its really flexibel - lots of pre-defined templates to start from (Scrum, Kanban, Test etc) but you can set it up exactly how you what to suit your needs. Also great support if you need help.

Cons

Also in "in-system communication" system is not as good as i.e. Trello, especially with the app.

Its free to test, start small and test it out, there is no "we have to it right from the beginning" in how to use it. Let the process evolve and ad features as you go. The when you found the "right way" for you, make a standard and set it up/clean out stuff you don't use.

Does exactly what I'm looking for, then gets out of my way.

2014-11-03

I've got a lot of experience of Jira, Rally, PivotalTracker, Trello, Mingle and open source agile lifecycle management tools.

Pros

Flexible, easy, covers every variety of agile process you can think of.

Cons

Not many people have actually used it so as a coach you have to demo its advantages a bit before you get buy-in.

Better than all the rest

2015-11-05

Targetprocess re-invents the workflow board, sort of like combining Trello and full-featured issue trackers and project management systems.

Pros

+ Easy to use + Incredible customization available + Rich, feature-packed filtering query language

Cons

What I dislike the most is that the experience isn't consistent - some data types can be created, renamed and tweaked extensively, while some others are set in stone and baked into the system. I would rather have that it was very scaled down, and that you could create your own data types for cards, instead of having a few baked-in types (Epic, Feature, UserStory, Request, Bug etc). And the cards are tied to metadata such as Release, Project, User, Role, Effort etc - these cannot be modified and you cannot use them as you will. - Cannot rename card types or create more, delete unused types etc - You have to choose between points or hours as Effort metric - but they don't work the same! Some features are not available when you choose points instead of hours. I'd rather it was only a label choosing "p" instead of "h". - Multiple stuff like the above - some stuff is build-in and cant be changed and it can be very confusing. - API is a mess. Everything can be modified in every request, instead of having separate requests for midifying different objects. For instance: you add a comment to a bug, you have to include the user (as an object, not just an id) that authored the comment. However, if you accidentally input the wrong name for the user (but the correct ID), it will actually *change the name* of that user. WTF? - Query language is very useful, but has some subtle bugs and inconsistencies.

Highly Detailed & Powerful Kanban Software

2017-03-01

The only thing I would suggest is that if you are new to Scrum/Kanban, because it has so many more features, TargetProcess can have a steeper learning curve than simpler tools such as Trello.

Pros

It's brilliant for Kanban/Scrum tracking.

Cons

The learning curve is steep. This is not really the fault of Target Process. But more because there is so much functionality, it takes a while to learn it all.

Brilliant Tools

2017-02-28

I have tried Mingle, Jira, Version One, Trello and a whole host of other PM tools and I constantly come back to TP.

Pros

Flexibility, ease of use, graphical nature, speed of response

Cons

Left navigation needs multiple levels, no undo, templates for a given team would be great

Great visual app for project management

2015-11-21

I've been using Target Process (TP) for more than a year now and before that I've used a bunch of other tools (Trello, Jira, Basecamp) and I can say with confidence that TP blows them all out of the water.

Pros

- very visual - easy to configure to a variety of processes - comes with pre-defined library of dashboard templates - has great documentation - is well maintained and supported

Cons

- takes a while to load on the first use - requires initial training session to understand all concepts

It's a very powerful tool but you have to really dedicate a time to study it

2017-02-16

I'm still struggling with my clients because I cannot add them as a user because it will consume a license (and in some projects I need to have more than 5 people with an overview) and they should be able to post comments or create requests so I'm still using Trello to communicate with everyone and a public view in target process so they can se what is being done and the backlog.
