Pros

When I have spoken to a tech they have been excellent in understanding my question and providing a solution. At times working outside the box to create the best result with the conditions present.
Overall we are happy with performance and support from LightSpeed. It's reliable and with the small amount of problems we have we are pleased.
We love how easy this was to set up. It does not require buying $20,000 worth of equipment like our first POS system did back in 2008.

Pros

The super cheap and easy to use interface is awesome. Being able to carry a card reader at all times has improved the way I take deposits for gear rentals.
The compactness of it was definitely appreciated and it was nice to have one, easy to find location for all the important statistics.
The ease of use, the sleek feel, great customer service and great rates. I trust Square with my business and so should you.

Cons

This POS system is terrible for retail shops doing anything more than a standard sale. It's unintuitive, confusing, easy to make errors and very frustrating.
Limited options for payment processing, having to go with a non integrated payment was frustrating, and we were also limited with payment processing options for our eCommerce site.
It’s extremely frustrating and not user friendly at all. In fact, I think the whole system is deeply flawed and unworkable.

Cons

I had to sit with my bank to file a dispute with Square, put a hold on all charges by Square, and start using an entirely different payment processor just to avoid Square stealing my money.
A client purchased multiple packages totally thousands of dollars from my company, received the services, and then disputed the charges as 'unrecognized. I provided the following to square.

This company is all about sales and has no interest in fairness or retaining customers.

I run a tiny seasonal business for which this system was intended. If someone is unhappy with my service, refunding their money is not always my first approach, but if I know that I've fallen short on service, I absolutely look for a fair solution. I was fine with keeping the hardware originally sent to me and even paying for the time lapse on the software, but to say that all software sales are final when they are the one that set the contract lengths to being with is just shady and downright distasteful. It's not like they put money into developing software just for my company. In fact, any time I tried to get support to help tweak things, their support team seemed more annoyed than willing to help. Stay away from these guys.

Pros

I barely used this product. What sold me on it initially were the demos in being able to have a simple interface for my employees on both the retail and restaurant side and a much more detailed backend than square that supposedly integrates nicely with Quickbooks.

Cons

I was very specific about my operating needs. I am also very busy with small children and multiple businesses. The onboarding was described as very simple, and it was not. I needed three systems, and was told that was what I was paying for. They shot me an invoice which I did not read thoroughly enough. They put in fine print on the invoice that the invoice and payment is acceptance or their sales...

Pros

Inventory and ecommerce are great but not worth the payment processing problems

Cons

The payment processing has gone down for 30 minutes to two days about 7 times in a year and a half. This is not acceptable in brick and mortar. While the retail R system is good for ecommerce and inventory management, the payment processing is not even close to the square experience. I use square at a separate location and payment processing has gone down one time in the same timeframe. Also square processes payments about 3 times faster than the archaic verifone provided by lightspeed.

Pros

Adding new features constantly Ease of use Cloud based Retail is great as it syncs instantaneously with eCom eCom is very easy to use with tons of features Analytics is fantastic and helps with easy reporting Customer service has always been top notch. We have been with them for over 10 years and always impressed with support.

Cons

Still feel Retail can work on inventory management with serial numbers a little better. Would love to see a invoice option for Retail instead of Receipts.

Worst POS experience ever

We used the POS system to complete simple retail transactions. I can not recommend for anybody to use this system in retail.

Pros

I have nothing good to report about this POS system. We recently used this POS for a festival and the system, system support and ease of use was so disastrous that every single trader was unhappy with the system. We have done many festivals, used many different POS systems, but this system was clunky, it took 11 push button steps to complete a transaction and the support on site was literally non-existent. As a consequence, the customers had to wait, and we had to spend valuable time looking at the entries of the system rather than interacting with the customers. At the festival we lost opportunities to talk about our product and we lost sales.

Cons

The system is clunky, unfriendly to use in a mobile setting and not in touch with customer service.

Overall, I think Lightspeed Retail is an excellent product and very simple for most any retail operation. I highly recommend it to colleagues for their POS/Inventory/eCom solutions.

Pros

Creating items and managing retail is very easy through Lightspeed Retail. The reporting features allow you to make great decisions for your business based on accurate data. Anytime I need help with something or am unsure as to how to do something regarding any feature of Lightspeed Retail, support is only a click away through the helpful chat feature. They are almost always immediate to respond and always kind and patient with any question.

Cons

Understanding how retail communicates with eCom is a little intimidating at first and simply took a minute to wrap my head around how it links together. Discounting could be a little more straight forward too but overall ok.

Lightspeed helps me pay all my taxes for both sales and employees. It tracks everything so accurately that makes my accountant's job much easier than the past. It's also great for tracking sales per employee and is easy to check everything remotely.

Pros

Lightspeed made it very easy to switch from my old system. I had a lot of inventory to transfer. With the help of Lightspeed's help team it was quick and seamless. Lightspeed tracks all my sales, customers, inventory, etc. It makes my daily life so easy dealing with daily order entry, refunds and inventory control.

Cons

I have nothing bad to say. Honestly, this is a must buy for all retail businesses!

It makes the day to day operation of a retail bicycle shop manageable. Did not have prior retail experience, did not have a POS system for 1st year of operation and Lightspeed reduced the headaches.

Cons

Really have nothing negative to say. Do not have hands on experience with other POS providers. There was a brief time when the system was not able retrieve some historical data. I talked to Lightspeed and the issue got resolved and has not resurfaced

Super flexible. With the retail I'm able to use for our shop and cafe. reports are easy to pull for each item(s ) The best bang for my buck

Cons

Limited to one or two credit card services. The restaurant is only Ipad when a PC or MAC is more comfortable to use.

I currently use both Lightspeed eCom & Retail (Omni-channel). This helps our retail store and online store stay synced and makes life easier for employees. Now, all POS sales and eCom sales are in one platform that is easy to use for our employees. If a customer purchases an item in our retail store, ecommerce inventory stays updated.

Pros

I really like that I am able to customize our website and integrate third party apps & APIs easily. And the customer service, the customer service is top notch! Through migration and implementation, the Lightspeed team was right there. At a moment's notice, I can chat with the team or give them a call. Although I may be a one-woman tech team, I have help! It's such a blessing to have a support team for our business. It has been easy to integrate all of our business critical resources and provide a more unified experience for our employees. Employees can access customer data, order data, shipping data, marketing data and product data in one platform. I've been able to customize our store template to our specific business needs and design requirements. It's been a developer's dream.

Cons

My main dislike is that I don't have FTP access to my files on LS servers. This would be extremely helpful to optimize our images as needed. I also would like to upload customer data myself. At this time, to upload customer data in bulk, I have to send the data to Lightspeed for import. More options for discounts and coupons would be helpful - BOGO, Buy 2 Get One, or FREE Shipping codes based on domestic addresses only (not international).

We use Lightspeed for all aspects of our retail and (with Magento) ecommerce operations.

Glitches aside, it's essential for managing all aspects of our retail/ecommerce business.

Pros

It's specifically tailored to the needs of a retail operation, and can, through a third party, be integrated with an ecommerce operation.

Cons

It can be glitchy and slow. The product browser, for example, can't load up products as fast as the user can scroll through them, leading to problems. It's also not easily customizing beyond a certain point.

Horrible. We were hounded by the sales rep to try and add ecomm for a "good deal" so we purchased a 3 year contract. My team has been trying to get a hold of someone, anyone, and there has been ZERO response for help.

Pros

Honestly, not a lot of pros. Its simple enough if you know how to dink around and look for things.

Cons

Features are not up to par The way ecomm is set up for connecting to retail is a mess

Lightspeed was such a useful software for processing transactions for our small retail store. Simple to use and very few problems

There was a small learning curve when getting set up but we had a great experience using it overall.

Overall, operating Lightspeed in multiple locations has made processing retail transactions and managing those transactions easy. Would definitely recommend.

Pros

Super easy to use and teach to new team members. Lots of features, including easy, returns, and refunds.

Cons

We have had some slower customer support especially during busy retail times.

Pros

We are so glad we found Lightspeed. They make retail and online retail affordable and easy. Their staff is always very helpful and easily accessible when help is needed. They offer many integrations and one of our favorites is the POS system for retail sales. There are so many great qualities to this program. Everything is very easy to use, easy to set up, and very user-friendly.

Cons

We love everything about Lightspeed.

Overall, I think Lightspeed is an excellent source for retail sources for point of sale and record keeping.

Pros

Lightspeed's customer service is excellent. They're quick and efficient, even through the chat option, which is what I typically use. I've described my problem pretty simply and three times that i've had to contact them, they've solved it very efficiently.

Cons

it would be great if there was a scheduling capability or alerts you could set on products. neither of these things are necessary but would be nice.

Pros

What's not to like? The learning curve is minimal, it is so easy! The paperless receipts are a hit with my customers and it just saves time! I literally plug it into my iPad and boom, I'm ready to make sales. I don't think I'll use a different software ever again.

Cons

Nothing! Square is the easiest software yet that I have used in retail!

The ability to start a new retail business while keeping costs down!

Cons

I loved the portability of the card reader, however, it is a looser fit so when trying to scan cards it tends to move, causing us to have to keep re-swiping.

Square is so easy to use with minimal costs. You can use it wherever there is cell coverage or wi-fi. It's easy to set up and small enough that it's no big deal to travel with, which is perfect for businesses that move around. The reporting tools are my favorite!

Cons

I have had nothing but pleasant experiences using Square for retail and as a customer.
