The tool seems like it is in it's infancy - restoring is more difficult than it needs to be and the "instant recovery" seems great in theory, but the vMotion aspect takes way too long to be usable in our capacity.

Deployment was easy and getting familiar with the interface was quick.  Once the backup policies are set, and VMs associated with policy, it just works.  

Set it and forget it

Cohesity has greatly improved our data protection from our previous backup solution. Being able to centrally manage and protect our data, as well as the advanced security features to protect from ransomware attack, helps us all sleep better at night.

Centralized and Simplified Data Management and Protection

Backing up entire VM's through vCenter is a breeze and works well.  Application backups (Exchange, SQL, AD) will all require an agent and the agent management is very poor in my opinion.  Replication works fine and restore times from locally cached data is quick.  There are still a lot of little things that keep this from being a polished solution but the overall product is good.

A solid product with room for improvement

Great! Cohesity has been integral to our ransomware mitigation and backup/disaster recovery systems. It has the added benefit of being able to perform additional stuff like Data Classification and searching.

From a daily basis it really lowered the time we were needed to manage our back-ups. Even when we had issues their support is top of the game and really helpful.

We have been very happy with our relationship with Cohesity. The company listens to users and I have seen features I requested added to the product. Reporting used to be a weak point, not it is very good comparatively.

Cohesity is a great backup solution that can do much more, and the feature list is growing.

We have eliminated tape backups, eliminated our legacy NAS devices, and added new features we didn't know we would even get at the time we purchased... like O365 backups and AD backups.  The engineering team is aggressively working to extend the product to more use cases in the data management realm.

We had so many issue with our old backup tool that I won’t know where to start. Now with Cohesity I can finally spend my time doing something else then firefighting. Also, As a backup administrator, I know that the backup we do every day can be restored quickly in case of issue.

Cohesity... 18 months later

Cohesity has been excellent to work with.  The local team is always helpful and responsive, support is excellent, and the product exceeds all expectations.  We started small because we were uncertain that they could do all of the things we heard about during the pre-sale process, but we couldn't be happier with the product.  We are currently in the process of tripling our capacity and adding additional features because we were so impressed by every aspect of Cohesity.

The overall experience has been great so far. We were able to get multiple admins up to speed how how to recover files and databases with ease.

Best backup software we've ever purchased

We've been able to cut backup times from over a day to being able to run backups every four hours.  I've been partially successful at getting first level to recover user files instead of kicking the request to someone higher up.

                                                       So before Cohesity, we had tried out Veeam, and it wasn't working for us based on the cost and the deployment model.
                                                       We chose Cohesity due to the lower cost, the ease of deployment, and the support model.
                                                       Deploying Cohesity in the environment was super easy. The same day that we racked and stacked the equipment, we were able to log into the interface and start backing up servers the very same day.
                                                       If you're considering Cohesity in your environment, I would suggest that you do a POC of the tool in your environment, and make sure you understand how to connect it to applications that aren't as easy as one, two, three, click in the web interface.

                                                       So we chose Cohesity as a replacement for a multiple of products that we were already using. Some of them were built into operating systems. Others were additional purchases. But they were just too many to manage all at once. Certain backup systems did one thing and certain backup systems did another, but you didn't get a good single pane of glass to understand how your overall backup solution was looking. We compared Cohesity to a number of other products, including Rubrik and Unitrends, and we chose Cohesity over those. Particularly, Rubrik was a little bit early in their product development at that time, and there were a lot of VMware features that they had not rolled out yet into the UI. They were only based or only available through their API. We really wanted to have a product that multiple administrators could operate, including our database administrator and our cloud administrators. So we wanted something that was easy to use, a single pane of glass, and had all the features ready to go from day one.
                                                       Cohesity allowed us to have all of our backups in one central location. So we could have our SQL, all of our database backups, all of our VMware virtualization backups, our cloud backups, as well as our Windows and Linux servers all in one place. That gave us a really clear snapshot of what our backup presence was like so we knew that we didn't have any holes in our backup solution.
                                                       Onboarding with Cohesity was a pretty straightforward process. You install the appliance, if you're going with the appliance version, and get it established on your network. And then at that point, the main task is to get the agent installed on all of the various servers and things that you're going to be protecting. If it's something that is cloud-based, there's some built-in connectors that are pretty easy, just use basic credentials to get those connectors working. And then once you're up and running, you can go through and develop your backup policies and your backup schedules. It's really a fairly straightforward process.
                                                       My recommendation for anyone considering Cohesity for their backup needs would be to get an appliance on-site, really put it through its paces, lean on their technical support for recommendations on how it will integrate with the systems that you need to back up. And then also test out multiple backup strategies. Are you only going to back up on the single appliance or are you going to back up on multiple appliances or are you going back up to the cloud as well? Are you using cloud as a source? You want to test out all those different sources and destinations to really make sure that it fits all your needs.
