Kahana overview

What is Kahana?

Imagine how much better life would be if you didn't have to waste it:

- Squinting to find tabs

- Straining to open files one by one

- Spending more time looking for pieces of information than... actually doing work

That's life with Kahana, a cloud-based collaboration and knowledge management platform that streamlines the way teams curate, share, and consume information. Kahana's patented "hub" technology enables you to curate all the different materials you're working with on any given topic or project - docs, sheets, links, PDFs, videos, your choice - all in a single tab. Kahana's collaborative features make it easy for people to work together within hubs: add anyone from your team to a hub, choose their permission level, and everyone will have the exact same view of the materials in one place.

No more pulling your hair out trying to find that file or window. No more emailing a bunch of files back and forth, opening every individual file up each time. Just a blissful oasis with every document and piece of information at the tip of your fingers.

The core unit of Kahana is a hub, where you can create a collection/repository of information and knowledge on any given topic of choice. On a desktop, the default view of a hub is a file viewing space where the selected file is displayed, and a clickable upload menu to the left of it which shows all of the files/links that have been uploaded to the hub. You also have the option to create a split-screen interface, where the left-hand side is the file viewing area, and the right-hand side is for notes. On a mobile device, you can switch back and forth between the right-hand side and the left-hand side.

Within a hub, you can upload PDFs, Word documents, text files, images (.png, .jpeg, .jpg), GIFs, links (e.g., Google Docs, Google Sheets), YouTube videos, video & audio files (.mp3, .mp4), web pages, and more. You can also create notes, and you can create links between text within notes and specific uploads to pull up materials in one click and make it easy to navigate the hub. You can delete from and add uploads to your hub, as well delete, add, and edit notes as you see fit.

For any hub that you create, you can choose whether to keep it private, share it with others, or make it publicly viewable. You can also charge for access to the hub (e.g., monetize the hub). When someone joins the hub - whether you invite them to join the hub or they pay for access to the hub - you have the ability to determine whether they join as a Viewer, Commenter, Editor, or Admin. You can change their permission level at any point in time, and you also have the ability to remove anyone from your hub.

Any hub that you create can have any combination of Viewers, Commenters, Editors, or Admins that you would like. Each hub has a comment thread associated with it, so in hubs where members have commenting access, they are able to leave comments, interact with one another, ask questions, etc. and everyone who is in the hub can see those comments. When a new comment is left in a hub, all hub members are notified via email; however, this is limited to one email per hour (so that hub members are not bombarded with notifications).

For any hub that you create or that you are an Admin for, you have the ability to update the title, cover image, description, and tags. Hub payouts are managed through the platform's integration with Stripe, so in order to monetize a hub (only the hub creator can do so), you either connect to an existing Stripe account or create a new one. Once you connect to Stripe, you are able to monetize any hub that you create, choose your price point, and choose your payment type (one-time or recurring).

From the home dashboard, you can see all of the hubs that you created and were invited to/paid to access.

Key benefits of using Kahana

The main benefits of using Kahana include:

- Time savings & efficiency: Think about how many times a week you find yourself squinting to look for a tab, in back-and-forth email exchanges opening up zip files one by one, or looking for pieces of information instead of actually doing what you need to do. Kahana eliminates all of these frustrations - and more - by enabling you to curate all the different materials you're working with on any given topic or project into "hubs", where you can easily view, access, and use all of those materials in a single tab, and by allowing you to collaborate with others within these hubs.

- Ease of use & collaboration: Current ways of sharing and consuming information are archaic, siloed, and inefficient. Instead of having to send files and links back and forth via emails or chat, opening each file up one by one, with Kahana, you give everyone the exact same view of all the necessary materials in one place. You can easily add anyone from your team to a hub, choose their permission level, and work together in real-time or asynchronously.

- Centralized repository of knowledge: Despite the other tools you are using, you constantly have multiple tabs open. Kahana brings together disparate resources, tools, and links in one singular location.
