Pros

Overall, I am very happy with WordPress and highly recommend it to everyone who wants to have a bang for their buck. It's fully functional and a very powerful CMS app.
The plugin marketplace is great, you can always find a great and suitable theme for your website needs. WP is famous enough to have integrations with almost every service and company out there.
I love being able to preview any and all changes before committing to it. Also, the plugins are a godsend, it makes life so much easier when dealing with special features.

Pros

I appreciate the detail given for each order and there are also great functions like discount codes which makes using the website very useful. The layout, while basic, helps make navigating simple.
Shopify is a popular tool with great support that makes it easy to get started an online e-commerce business. It has also great integration across different platforms like Laptops/PCs and smartphones.
Shopify is fairly user friendly. It is easy to set up and has great tutorials and other resources to help the novice or less-technology-savvy out of us.

Cons

Cons: if you change you ip on a linux server it is a pain in the ass to get running again. But in the end i got it.
Pricey plugins, I also hate that the plugins aren't regulated meaning that a plugin can stop updating and I'm forced to either find a new one or brace myself of being hacked.
WordPress sites are vulnerable to hacking, attacks and spamming and often you only learn this once you've been attacked. More should be done for security.

Cons

Customer service was terrible, they offered a CSV upload which was useless to me, or offered to uplaod my items for me, and charge me a crazy amount of money for the service.
Shopify is paid and when it updates itself it gives some sort of errors in the online store and finding the error is a difficult task.
The premium charges are a slight turnoff due to the monthly charges. Smaller stores will have to look over their shoulders to make sure that they make enough to cover the monthly Shopify charges.

Reviewed 2 years ago

Great for beginners and bloggers!

Pros

You really can do it all with Wordpress. I have a lot used Shopify which I think are both very comparable. VERY customizable to your own needs. This is great for beginners that don't have a lot of knowledge in the coding world and have never created a website from scratch before. It's also reallly affordable for what you get. I think the ROI for this software is high. Like I said, it's definitely best for beginners and bloggers. Seems to be a good fit.

Cons

I still prefer Shopify though for my personal and business uses. I guess I prefer the plug-ins and the way shopify is set up. They have just made it soo easy to sell on multiple platforms. Wordpress is great for personal use and smaller companies. I think Shopify is better for larger companies and more involved usage.

Wordpress & Their Support System

Reviewed 2 years ago
Pros

WordPress is an easy to use platform with plenty of information both online and through their support system that gives anyone the chance and ability to create their own website at a competitive price, and can even take care of the website hosting for them. It's the only platform I recommend to my clients who aren't running Ecommerce businesses. The support itself is exemplary, with timely responses and knowledgeable staff that are always happy to help.

Cons

The only issue with WordPress is the fact that it is outshone by Shopify in the Ecommerce sphere.

The best blog platform

Reviewed 2 years ago

WordPress has a great Shopify integration, it really helps to keep good content in our e-com.

Pros

I've used WordPress to create content both as a blogger and as a brand. WordPress has phenomenal features that allow everyone to apply SEO techniques to their blog pages, being a beginner or a professional. There's no platform better than WordPress for blogs out there. I could manage every single aspect of my blog, design, features, functionalities... etc.

Cons

The free templates can do wonders, but if you want to step up your game and design your own blog and pages, it is pricey. But it's worthy it.

You have to use WordPress, or your website will be left in the dust.

You have to use wordpress for building your website. others sites like wix and shopify have limitations.

Pros

Wordpress allows you to build any design of website you can imagine and the best part is there is such a large community to help you with any of your needs.

Cons

It is not the most user friendly program, but with a large community of programmers its not hard to find help.

WordPress - a cheap and somewhat clunky Content Management System

Reviewed a month ago

It's a CMS that works okay and is easy on the budget. Not all that great for e-commerce but good for basic sites that just have content/imagery.

Pros

Price is fairly cheap compared to competitors and there are many plugins/integrations that will work with almost anything.

Cons

WordPress updates occasionally break the website or cause it to go down. User friendliness is lower than their competitors like Shopify

Please don't ever build a site that's not on WordPress

Reviewed 2 years ago

WordPress is far and away the most scalable CMS on the web. There are some DIY builders that are easier to use for end-users, but if you have any kind of web development experience, WordPress is the way to go.

Pros

- Ease of use - Ability to add, develop, and customize - Massive community with plugins to add-on functionality easily - Free

Cons

- WooCommerce is great, but the shopping experience isn't on-par yet with Shopify out of the box... though it can be customized.

WordPress

May not be the best choice depending on what you need

Reviewed a year ago

Overall it's been good, but that's because I know what I'm doing. I've run into speed bumps with plugins or functionality here and there, but nothing detrimental.

Pros

Wordpress is great if you know how to use it (big learning curve) and if you're not using it for eCommerce. Wordpress is not straightforward, and you would need training or a lot of experience. It's impossible to build a good website in Wordpress if you don't know what you're doing. Wordpress is great for plugins as well, and most plugins have a free option and great customer support.

Cons

Wordpress can still be used for eCommerce, but not optimal because the eCommerce plugins don't work really well with Wordpress, they're difficult to setup, and they slow the website down a lot. If you're running a pure eCommerce website, I would recommend Shopify or a similar platform dedicated to eCommerce. Shopify also makes it easy for people with no web design experience.

Pros

With Wordpress you have the ability to keep it as simple as you want but it also allows you to customize and get as technical as you want especially for optimizing for user experience.

Cons

Not the best for ecommerce

Reviewed 3 years ago

I would suggest Wordpress more for blogging purpose or a quick landing website. From my experience, didn’t feel like very user friendly for non tech-savvy. People who don’t have very much coding experience might have a bit of a hard time.

Pros

I was able to setup a fairly cheap e commerce shop using Wordpress and the Woo-commerce plugin. Some features came built in that aren’t available in Shopify. Plenty of plugins to choose from and the same with themes.

Cons

Probably wouldn’t recommend it for a true ecommerce solution. Once I had everything the overall experience just felt sluggish. Would much definitely suggest using a Shopify instead.

WordPress is the platform for blogging!

Reviewed 2 years ago

I jumped ship from Squarespace a few years ago to launch an ecommerce site using Shopify. Only there was a problem- Shopify's blogging portion of their platform leaves much to be desired. Ta-da- Wordpress to the rescue! I was able to find a theme that looked similar to my Shopify site but functioned better for me on the back end. Win win.

Pros

That they are continually making changes that benefit the user experience.

Cons

All the plug ins- having a separate ecommerce site makes me not want to flesh out adding plug ins.
