TMS for Logistics Service Providers overview
What is TMS for Logistics Service Providers?
TMS for Logistics Service Providers is a transportation management system that operates as a native application within Microsoft Dynamics three hundred sixty-five Business Central. It is designed for freight forwarders, brokers, and third party logistics teams managing multi-stage transport jobs in a unified environment. The solution facilitates the management of forwarding order creation, carrier execution, cost settlement, and customer invoicing within a single workflow. It supports visibility into transport costs, margins, and uninvoiced work throughout the entire process.
The system organizes transportation management into four primary workflow stages that guide processes from initial job capture through financial completion. The Forwarding Order Management component serves as the central record for capturing parties, cargo details, dates, stage definitions, commercial terms, and customer documentation in one order. In the Freight Order Execution stage each transport job is divided into individual legs with carrier assignments, pay-to vendor designations, route planning, timing parameters, vehicle and driver allocations as required. The Settlement and Charge Allocation stage links purchase invoice lines to transport charges in order to reconcile supplier costs and distribute actual expenses across jobs. The Customer Invoicing and Profitability stage generates invoices from the transport workflow and provides insight into expected profit and uninvoiced work status.
Workflow governance is supported through configurable order types, stage structures, status rules, and document requirements that align with specific business models. Stage profiles and status rules define transport workflows in accordance with organizational processes. Document and attachment control ensures required files are collected and tasks are tracked with checklist functionality that helps maintain alignment among multiple stakeholders. The solution accommodates both subcontracted carrier models and hybrid approaches that combine external capacity with internal fleet resources for flexible execution.
Integration capabilities include a REST application programming interface for order management that enables external systems to exchange transport orders and related data with the Business Central environment. The system supports data access for reporting scenarios through Power BI and other API based tools. Profitability reporting is available in an additional reporting currency for group level visibility into income, cost, and profit. The application is available through Microsoft AppSource and can be installed into Business Central environments by system administrators.
