Hotjar is amazing but way overpriced. I rather use screen recordings and heatmaps from Microsoft Clarity (which is free) and only use Hotjar for on-site surveys etc.
It gives you so much insights into how your visitors behave and think.
The pricing... it's too expensive. Even though the functionality is brilliant, I would rather pay less for another service than using this one.

Hotjar was the first of its kind for me, opened up new doors and enabled me to gather data I couldn't previously get. I used it religiously on every single website I setup for clients and even personal websites, it was the best tool I found.
Microsoft Clarity came along, offering the same features, for free. I wanted to stay with Hotjar as they'd always worked to improve their tool and the team were brilliant if I ever needed anything or had any questions but ultimately there wasn't much to differentiate Hotjar and Clarity so I decided the cost wasn't worth it for me.

It's been crucial in giving us clarity in how people interact with our website, whether or not they're seeing essential pieces of content, and make design decisions based on that data.
We switched from CrazyEgg to Hotjar over a year ago, and haven't looked back. At the time, CrazyEgg didn't offer user videos (videos of people using our website) and Hotjar did, so we switched over. What I love most about Hotjar is that it's not just providing insights about how our users click and scroll via heatmaps, but I can gather more qualitative data by setting up polls or video recordings as well. The "share this heatmap" feature (where I can get a unique link to a heatmap that I can share with anyone on my team -- regardless of if they have access to Hotjar or not) is super handy as well. It helps me collaborate with our user researchers or send data to other teams (I sit on the web marketing team) when I find insights that they'd find valuable.
I wish I could have more flexibility with the design and branding of the polls. The few times I've added one to our website, it looks a little frankenstein-y in comparison to the rest of our design.

I used to use hotjar before switching to Clarity. I think it's super easy to use and more responsive compared to Hotjar. I will keep comparing it to Hotjar since I have only experience using the latter. It does everything from tracking, to user behaviour, to heat maps and more. Plus it integrates with Hubspot well which is what we use for marketing.
Nothing much. It's a full package and I think it does tracking and heatmaps very well.

This replaced hotjar and no reason to look back - easier to setup / use, it's free and it gives me info in a more digestable manner than rummaging through GA.
Easy to setup, easy to digest the dashboard, easy to filter down to specific use cases on our websites to identify pages AND it provides data much easier that I usually care about 90% of the time instead of going to Google Analytics.
the heatmap shows ratio of clicks / total clicks instead of clicks on element / unique sessions

We typically would have used Hotjar for many of the features of Clarity, mostly the heatmaps and session recordings. Clarity offers the same functionality (actually somewhat improved and enriched) for free, which makes it a bit of a no-brainer.
There have been some issues setting up the software on websites that are a Single-Page Application.

I used to work at a startup and one of the things that I noticed about successful startups is that they were able to track the user behavior of their customers. I was always bothered that I couldn't get that information for my own startups. I was always at the mercy of third party companies that charge a fortune. I was really excited when I found Clarity! It's an amazing service that provides heat maps, session recordings, user analytics, and advanced dashboard all in one place. It's helped me track user behavior and make better decisions about design and marketing. The best part is that Clarity is a free-to-use software
I was using Hotjar and paid too much for session recording feature. Other hand Clarity is a totally free product. Google tag manager integration is lifesaver for me. I can set up Clarity without asking developer team. It's also GDPR compliant and provides an advanced dashboard for analytic overview.
It's a lightweight tool comparing to the competitors. Survey, feedbacks and segmentation features can be added to the product but as I mentioned it's a lightweight product. I think existing features quite satisfied for users who are looking for a simple product to track heatmap and session records.
