Pros and cons

This company also has excellent customer service and continues to improve and add to the software. They also have an option for an extremely affordable lifetime purchase.
I like that it helps make my writing come across better. I am not the best writer and ProWritingAid is better than gram... in usability and the information it provides.
It's so comprehensive and I can't wait until I can save up the money to buy the program. I recommended it to my girls to help them with school papers because I found it so helpful for my own writing.
There is absolutely nothing to dislike about this software. It might irritate to have the errors exposed so often.
Missed too many mistakes. It always suggests very simple things that need to be corrected.
It didn't have sentence re-phraser, which is required a lot specially for bloggers. Also, there is no Android app available.

Must have if you are a writer

Reviewed 3 years ago

I'm using this tool mostly when I'm writing posts for my personal blog. It helps me to do all kinds of analysis over my text and make it better. Although, it is good for every day usage, when it highlights common errors in real-time.

Pros

It has a simple to use widget that can highlight your grammatic errors in real time. Though, when you want to open a detailed view, you can do that by tapping on the widget and it will open a full-featured editor with a lot of data about your writing.

Cons

Sometimes, the widget does not work for some of the text editors on websites. Hell, it even didn't work on the website where I'm writing the review now.

Not a lot of trust that it works

Reviewed 2 years ago

I was very happy with the trial and bought the yearly subscription. The cost vs Grammarly is significantly less and appeared to work close enough to as well. After I started working in it I noticed it didn't catch nearly as much as Grammarly. It will still be helpful for emails and its not even in the league of Grammarly. Yes Grammarly is the big player but their cost is hard to swallow for my simple business email corrections.

Pros

-Yearly Cost vs main competitor -Easy to install -Works with web browsers & Microsoft outlook -Customer support

Cons

-Missed too many mistakes -It always suggests very simple things that need to be corrected. The AI isn't smart enough, yet, to see it's a closing and not an incomplete sentence. It gives you the ability to ignore the rule, but will it miss a true error then?

It's Cost Effective and Useful

Reviewed 4 months ago

It's a great proofreader and AI writing software. It's definitely worth the try.

Pros

ProWritingAid is not just for fixing grammar and spelling; it's a full writing assistant that can assist in the sales process or any reason for your writing. Using this software, you can fix sentence structure, find excessive adverbs and adjectives, and show your pacing, sentence length graph, and readability score. With it, you have a personal editor in your pocket. It's simple and easy to use; and flags issues you may not see when hand-reading your drafts. It even offers improvements and consistency suggestions.

Cons

There is no unlimited proofreading in the free version. Despite that, it's a great piece of software. Well worth checking out.

Supports better content, faster (and cheaper)

Reviewed 4 years ago

I'm a business writer (marketing consultant), author-publisher, and editor, so ProWritingAid is an essential part of my business. I absolutely work with human editors for big projects like books, but on the day-to-day content and short fiction where I'm on a tighter turn-around and production budget, ProWritingAid is a cost-effective and efficient way to clean up mistakes and add polish. As an editor/proofreader myself, I also use it to add value for my clients—ProWritingAid helps flag more potential corrections than I can catch in a single pass while freeing me up to keep a closer eye on the style and logic side of things.

Pros

My favourite feature is the overused words check. It's really useful to have grammatical errors and typos flagged as well, but one of the hardest things for me to catch when self-editing is too many uses of the same words in proximity. The automatic check helps me clean up content and get it out the door quickly, whether it's my own projects or as an editor.

Cons

I have older MS Word software, so it's not compatible and copying to and from the web editor can be a little clunky.

Best Grammar & Spelling Checker

Reviewed 2 years ago

My overall experience is very satisfactory as it provides all the essential features which are expected from a good grammar checker tool.

Pros

It is a good-looking Grammer and spelling checker with lifetime perpetual license option. Grammer checking and spellcheck feature is as good as its alternative in the market. It also provides the in-depth reports and analyses.

Cons

It didn't have sentence re-phraser, which is required a lot specially for bloggers. Also, there is no Android app available.

ProWritingAid is Amazing!

Reviewed 2 years ago

I have had to contact customer service twice. 1st time because of an email address error I made, second for a new promotional offer I received. Their customer service was fantastic! They responded rapidly, were friendly, polite and helpful, and resolved my issues! They even refunded what I paid initially to honor the new offer I received!

Pros

It is easy to use and has numerous, detailed reports available that help me improve my writing.

Cons

The only thing I would complain about is it seems very difficult to scroll down and view all reports. I'm not sure if it's a screen size issue.

My school life and my writer life has never had it easier!

Reviewed 3 years ago
Pros

The readability checks along with the repeated word counter saves my papers and rough drafts and gives me a lot less work to do when I have to do hard edits.

Cons

The only thing that I don't like is that the plagiarism checks are limited. If anything, I would wish that paying customers can get a certain amount of checks every time they renew their license.

Best editing software on the market

Reviewed 4 years ago

I signed up for a ProWritingAid trial after reading a review about it. I'd been a paying client with Grammarly for years, but my experience with PWA during the trial period alone made me a convert, and I haven't looked back since. Fantastical product!

Pros

ProWritingAid is an incredibly comprehensive editing software. How many of its editing categories you look at and implement is up to you and how much time you have available, but they're always there. The software stands head and shoulders above competitors in this regard. It's also, for the budget-conscious, a lot more affordable. True value for money - the best investment anyone who works with words in any capacity can make!

Cons

Not sure if it's a glitch, but sometimes when I accept an edit, then undo, it's unable to. Also, it doesn't catch every single grammar mistake (9 times out of 10 it does, though), so I'd advise to have the free version of Grammarly installed as a backup.

Perfect Your Language Perfectly (but this program might tell you not to phrase it that way)

Reviewed 2 years ago

Writing is a process that requires many disciplines, from planning, to drafting, to editing. One component of that final phase is proofreading, which is essentially the wax to a washed car, if a car were a piece of writing (and a metaphor). Without a solid examination of the final product, statements become questions without notice? See what I did there. Okay, now see what I did there? Yes, knowing...

Pros

Besides the fact that it covers basic grammar checks like style, punctuation, and sentence construction, etc., it also checks for sentence length (for variety), clichés (because everyone says they’re bad for some reason), quotes and dialogue, telling versus showing, sensory language, and more. If you’ve ever needed a solid compass to see how ready you are to hit “publish” on your blog or Amazon KDP...

Cons

The amount of checks that ProWritingAid offers is not only its strength, but also, potentially, its downfall. To put it mildly, using ProWritingAid is a mental exercise that can sap your energy if you insist on using every feature for every instance. For example, I can spend anywhere from one to three hours examining a single piece of writing if I go through every category. By the end, I’m ready for...

A mixed bag

Reviewed 4 years ago

Overall, it's been a useful tool which has helped me improve my writing style. I try to find amusement in its bizarre, triggered reactions to individual words without considering context. For now, I'll continue to use it, but I can foresee a time when I feel I don't need it anymore - unless the improvements I've mentioned above get addressed.

Pros

It's a Microsoft Word plug-in, making it readily available whenever I'm working. The report descriptions are clear and concise, and the results are often helpful. The most useful reports are the Sticky Sentence Check (which helps me minimise fluffy writing), the Overused Words Check (which picks up the most common instances), and the Pronoun check (which helps me avoid excessive pronoun usage). Other reports (the Sentence Length and Dialogue Tags checks) offer useful information too, but they satisfy my interest in document statistics.

Cons

Three things stand out. 1. The Grammar Check for the Word plug-in doesn't have a user-custom dictionary. (Grammarly and Word both provide this feature.) Since I'm writing fantasy, the Grammar Check throws out an irritating stream of unrecognised words - which I've trained Grammarly and Word to accept. 2. The Grammar Check and Writing Style Check have a limited view of context, which often leads to...

Great Online Editor

Reviewed a year ago

PWA is one of the best investments I made this year. Though it doesn't catch all mistakes, it catches most, making it worth every penny.

Pros

ProWritingAid is one of the few subscription-based applications that works for me. When I'm writing online like I'm doing now, PWA is checking my grammar, spelling, punctuation, and style usage. Before I started using PWA, I would have to read my writing several times to catch mistakes, and unfortunately, I wouldn't catch them all because I'm not good at proofreading my writing. As I'm typing or when...

Cons

I look forward to PWA working globally in all applications. It only works in online applications, but that's not a big con because I mostly write online.

Share in the best editing program I have discovered.

Reviewed 9 months ago
Pros

It provide flexibility. With it been integrated with another program I use it will instantly highlight mistakes. If you choose you can disable that function and just write. At a later stage you can enable the function again and carry out your audit. I often do that because I do not want interruptions when I am in "the zone" if I can call it that. Their newest addition also allow for auditing where someone else assists and you provide a link for the other person to assist with auditing. There is also provision to make changes without changing the original text. It is an amazing addition.

Cons

Currently struggling with the integration with a program called Atticus. The staff is very helpful, but it problem has not been solved. Part of the problem is that I am a writer and not a technical expert, and often it take me a lot of time to complete requests from their staff. A far more pertinent issue is that you cannot use the program if there is no electricity available. Unfortunately living in South Africa we have "load shedding" up to three times a day. From 09h00 until 11h00 this morning it happened unannounced.

Only Praise for Pro Writing Aid.

Reviewed 2 years ago

My emails are smoother and without errors. My printed letters and business emails get quick responses because they appear to be sent by someone who knows what they are doing. I write humour. Humour works best when the writing is smart and competently executed.

Pros

I've written two novels and a collection of short stories in the past few years. They may not be great literature, but they are spelled correctly, the word usage is expansive and not repetitive, and the grammar is better than I could do on my own. PWA shines a light on bad habits and suggests alternatives. Just what I needed. It gently makes you rethink the tricky bits. Every office should be using PWA.

Cons

There are no negatives to speak of. With the desktop app, I can do very thorough edits on big chunks of text so there's really no problem. It's like having a non-scolding expert editor looking over my shoulder.

Awesome!

Reviewed 5 months ago

Overall, I found ProWritingAid to be a great tool for improving my writing.

Pros

ProWritingAid is a comprehensive writing tool that offers various features to enhance the quality of your writing. It includes grammar and spell-check, word choice and style suggestions, and detailed reports on your writing style. Additionally, it provides the ability to compare your writing to published works.

Cons

One of the least liked features of ProWritingAid is that there is a limit to the number of words or documents that can be analyzed at a time. For users who need to analyze large documents, this can be quite limiting. Additionally, the software can be quite slow and laggy at times, leading to longer wait times between edits.

Great tool for writers

Reviewed 4 years ago

Overall, I find this tool very useful when having to deal with a big amount of text or having to write a lot for work on a daily basis. It does offer a huge amount of insights and information to help you improve your writing skills over time.

Pros

ProWritingAid is a very nice tool to make sure all your content is written properly. It is extremely easy to use and you can set it up in just a few minutes. To start checking a document, you can upload an existing one or create a new one from scratchIt corrects your mistakes and classifies them in grammar, style, and spelling. This allows you to understand where you should improve. I found it very useful in the cases we have to write long manuals. It gives you endless possibilities to get further information about words (dictionary definitions, quotes, etc), same with extensive explanations of why your sentence needs corrections. The dashboard is very complete, and you find all the information on stats about your most common mistakes, key suggestions for improvements, vocabulary, etc.

Cons

As in my team, we usually do not write long documents and we use it mostly for emails and presentations, we have decided to use another alternative tool as we found it more suitable for our purpose. Something that offered a 'check on the go' At the time I tried it, they offered only the yearly subscription and the free trial was 14 days. It would be nice to have other subscription options that are more flexible

ProWritingAid: A Must Have For Writers!

Reviewed 2 years ago

Overall, ProWritingAid has helped our company to better communicate with our customers by giving us a writing edge. It has also helped us to better understand what and what not to write to customers and how to put perspective to context.

Pros

ProWritingAid is a premium grammar checker and style editor for bloggers and business writers. It is also a very handy tool for anyone who writes content. It is a very accurate and powerful tool that is surprisingly easy to use and provides in-depth feedback on your writing. ProWritingAid eliminates common error types, inconsistent terminology, contextual spelling errors, and grammar mistakes. ProWritingAid is a great tool because it has plugins for Google Docs, Chrome browser, MS Word, and Outlook which is a great addition.

Cons

ProWritingAid being a great software has some limitations. The first being that the free version has a 500-word limit which is a big limitation.

ProWritingAid has literally helped me to become a better writer

Reviewed 5 years ago

I plug every single piece of writing that I do into ProWritingAid, and as a full time writer that means I use it often! I am writing a book write now and after the first draft is done I plan to plug each chapter into the program so I will have a cleaner copy for my editor to go through. I hope this will make the final product a higher quality. I recommend prowritingaid often to friends and colleagues and I plan to keep using it for the foreseeable future.

Pros

I love the setup and functionality of the program and how easy it is to use. It's easy to load up a document and have it analyze several layers of content. I love that it can 1) Spit out a summary of your documents grade and show you why it received a certain grade for each layer of analysis 2) Shows you how can improve the style of your writing and where you need to check again 3) Analyze your grammar and show you what you might need to correct I plug every single piece of sales copy I write into the program and it has helped me to pump out some great finished content.

Cons

At times I have lost data when the program has crashed or my computer has shut down unexpectedly. It doesn't auto save as I am used to from using google docs, and you need to be careful not to close out of the document until you either save it or copy and paste the content into its final destination. This is only a minor issue that boils down to user error mostly, but I would love an auto save feature to be added in.

Pros

I enjoy the ease of use, I like that I do not have to run a full assessment to edit my document on the go. I also find that the tense check is very helpful when writing fiction.
