ToolJet overview

What is ToolJet?

ToolJet is an open-source, AI-native low-code platform for building and deploying full-stack internal tools and business applications, available as a cloud-managed service, self-hosted on-premises or private cloud, or in fully air-gapped environments. App creation is supported through a visual drag-and-drop builder with pre-built UI components, an AI Builder that generates application UI, database schemas, and queries from plain-language descriptions, or custom JavaScript and Python code. A built-in no-code database on PostgreSQL, multi-page application support, multiplayer editing, and Git synchronization for version control and multi-environment deployments round out the core development experience. The platform connects to 60+ data sources including PostgreSQL, MongoDB, MySQL, REST and GraphQL APIs, Google Sheets, Airtable, cloud storage, and LLMs such as OpenAI, with support for bring-your-own LLM API keys on the Enterprise plan.

ToolJet targets businesses of all sizes, from startups to enterprises, across engineering, product, IT, operations, HR, sales, marketing, and finance teams. It is particularly suited to organizations in regulated industries, including financial services, healthcare, and supply chain, that require strict data control and compliance. Enterprise-grade security controls include role-based access control (RBAC), SSO via SAML, OIDC, and LDAP, audit logs, an encrypted credential vault, and certifications covering SOC 2, GDPR, and ISO standards. Air-gapped deployment supports fully isolated networks with no outbound internet required, and infrastructure options span AWS (Marketplace, ECS, EKS, AMI), Microsoft Azure (Marketplace, AKS, Container Apps), Google Cloud (GKE, Cloud Run), DigitalOcean, Kubernetes, and Docker Compose.

The platform's AI capabilities extend beyond initial app generation: a Copilot assists with writing JavaScript and Python snippets for data transformations and frontend logic, natural language commands can extend or modify existing apps without disrupting current functionality, and an MCP Server connects AI coding assistants such as Cursor and VSCode to the platform instance for administrative tasks including user management and permission updates via natural language prompts. The open-source codebase eliminates vendor lock-in and supports full customization through a JavaScript-based custom plugin and component development platform. Priority support with SLAs is available on paid plans.
