Astah System Safety overview
What is Astah System Safety?
Astah System Safety is a desktop modeling tool for MBSE and safety analysis of safety-critical systems, developed by Change Vision, Inc.
Notations: SysML v1, UAF (Unified Architecture Framework), STAMP/STPA, GSN/D-Case assurance cases, ASAM SCDL safety concepts, and mind maps.
Safety engineering: traceability between system models and safety analyses, conversion between notations (for example SysML blocks to STPA components and requirements to GSN goals), and support for building safety cases for standards such as ISO 26262. STAMP/STPA tables can be exported to Excel.
Interoperability: SysML XMI import and export, including data exchange with Cameo Systems Modeler. Free plug-ins add dependency matrices, rule-based legends, Groovy-based model validation, HTML export, rich documents, and OpenAPI import. A Java API and plug-in SDK are available.
AI: AI Chat Copilot and a local MCP server. Both require your own API key from a supported AI service (OpenAI, Claude, Gemini, or an OpenAI-compatible endpoint).
Platform and security: runs on Windows and macOS. Models are saved as local files, so no cloud storage is required.
Scope: FTA, FMEA, and simulation are not included.
Licensing: annual and annual floating licenses. A 40-day free trial is available.
