Scala overview

What is Scala?

Scala is a digital signage solution providing customized digital communication to businesses including retail, hospitality, education, healthcare, and more. With solutions for any industry type, and fully customizable digital signage, Scala allows users to communicate their message, from multiple outlets, to both employees and customers from one central location.

Scala solutions allow users to create audience engagement experiences with the Scala designer tool by using one of the many in-built templates, and connect a network of digital signs, kiosks, websites, mobile devices, or any internet connected device. The content manager facilitates the planning and continuous management of content through pre-planned playlists which can adapt to trends and even target specific customers. For added customization, businesses can also set up role-based permissions to provide certain employees with access to the data presented on the screen, and edit the playlists depending on real-time information from sources such as news, weather, and traffic.

With Scala’s various digital signage possibilities including interactive fitting rooms, digital menu boards, kiosk services, wayfinding, digital advertising, and in-store targeting, users can communicate messages to their customers in an interactive way. For retail businesses, interactive marketing and tailored targeting can help increase sales and brand awareness, whilst quick service restaurants can benefit from Scala’s queue management tools and menu display screens.

Key benefits of using Scala

- Benefit from 24/7 playback with the Scala content player, even during network interruptions or system updates. The player also downloads individual changes as they are made, rather than the entire playlist.

- Target specific user segments, or even individual customers, and edit content based on real-time external events such as weather, traffic, customer gender, and more.

- Create dynamic playlists (and sub-playlists) using scripts, messages, videos, flash or static images and manage the playlist from anywhere. Set user permissions so that only selected staff can make changes to the playlist.

- Use the Scala designer tool to create dynamic content, combine text, graphics, sound, and video, add transitions, plan layout, create content in any language, create templates and publish.

- Track player health log and log events for advertisement billing or reporting thanks to data communication between the player and content manager.

A/V Analyst

“Scala is especially useless in projects that involve high concurrency, processing large volumes of data, or building distributed systems - areas that Google often works on but is not fit for purpose.”
