Skimmer vs. Jobber for Pool Companies: What I Found
A practical look at managing weekly service, repair jobs, and software costs as your routes and team grow.

Skimmer and Jobber overlap on much of what a pool company needs: recurring scheduling, repair quotes, invoicing, and customer communication. That makes the choice between the best pool service software less straightforward than comparing feature lists. The more useful question is how each handles the work between arriving at a pool, recording the service, and getting paid.
For a business built around weekly routes, chemistry records and service reports may carry the most weight. If repairs, equipment upgrades, or other service lines make up a larger share of your work, quoting and job management deserve closer attention. Cost adds another consideration: Skimmer charges by serviced location, while Jobber’s subscription depends on the plan and user allowance.
I compared Skimmer and Jobber across six factors: routes, chemistry records, repairs and quotes, billing and QuickBooks, field apps, and pricing. Below, I explain where their capabilities overlap, which differences matter for pool companies, and how costs compare at route sizes from 40 to 300 locations.
Skimmer vs. Jobber for pool companies: My short answer
Routes and proof of service: Skimmer includes a route builder, readings, dosages, and service emails with photos on every plan. Jobber's routing and checklists begin on its second plan, and chemistry goes into generic checklist fields.
Repairs and quotes: Jobber lists the broader quoting toolkit (rich quotes, optional line items, job costing), though Skimmer also documents quote reminders and margins. Skimmer includes one-time work orders on every plan and adds quotes, job management, and recurring work orders on its second plan.
Billing and QuickBooks: Both connect to QuickBooks Online, and both sync one way, from the product to QuickBooks. Skimmer sends customers, products, invoices, payments, and related data; Jobber's newer integration sends clients, products and services, invoices, payments, and timesheets.
Cost: Both Skimmer and Jobber start at $49/month, billed monthly. With route optimization, Skimmer costs $98 and up and Jobber $139 and up. At 100 serviced locations and three users, the two are within $1; at 180 and 300, Jobber's bundle totals are lower.
Best fit: Skimmer makes sense when weekly routes and chemistry records are the business. Jobber is the stronger match when repairs, quotes, or other service lines carry equal weight. This comparison covers service and repair work, not pool construction projects.
Skimmer vs. Jobber at a glance
Pricing and plan details are from each vendor's official pages, as of October 2026, at published monthly rates unless noted (Jobber's monthly no-commitment option; Skimmer's pricing page states no contracts). Ratings come from GetApp.

What's different and what's not
Key differences
Chemistry tools. Skimmer has readings and dosages on every plan, plus a dosing calculator and test-kit sync on its second plan. Jobber logs readings in general-purpose checklists.
Pricing unit. Skimmer charges per serviced location (a service address, which can include several pools or spas) with unlimited technicians. Jobber charges per plan with bundled users and $29 per extra user, and field technicians count as users.
Quoting depth. Jobber lists optional line items and job costing on Grow, and automated quote and invoice follow-ups from Connect. Skimmer documents quote reminders and margin calculations on quotes, which come with its second plan.
Support access. Jobber lists phone, chat, and email on all plans. Skimmer's live phone support starts on its second plan.
Shared capabilities
Billing basics. Both send invoices, take card and ACH payments, support automatic payments, and offer a customer portal.
Accounting. Both connect to QuickBooks Online.
Mobile apps. Both offer iOS and Android apps for technicians.
How I compared them
I compared the two tools across the six factors below using vendor pricing pages and help articles, GetApp listings and ratings, and reviews. I did not test either product hands-on. For qualitative feedback, I grouped recurring themes in GetApp reviews published from January 2024 to September 2026.
Cost examples cover 40, 100, 180, and 300 pools, with monthly prices shown separately from Jobber’s annual-billing rates. Prices are in USD as of October 2026 and exclude payment processing fees, add-ons, and sales tax. Skimmer Enterprise pricing (1,000+ locations) requires a quote.
Skimmer vs. Jobber across six factors
The first five factors compare routine pool work: routes, chemistry records, repairs, billing, and the field app. The sixth covers what each costs as pools and technicians grow.
1. Route building for recurring weekly routes
A pool route repeats: the same customers in the same order, with a few moves each week. This is where the two tools take different approaches.
How Skimmer handles routes
Skimmer's route builder is on every plan, with route assignments by technician and a dashboard for permanent or one-time changes. The route optimizer, which lets you set start and end points, is on the second plan. Technicians can move stops from the app, including offline, and office alerts on every plan flag skipped stops.
How Jobber handles routes
Jobber schedules recurring visits into the calendar and adds route optimization from its Connect plan. In Jobber's New Schedule, an admin runs it on the web for visits without set times, up to seven days at a time, and technicians see the reordered stops and directions in the app.
What reviewers add
Several Jobber reviewers ask for better routing, and recurring feedback centers on manual rerouting and one-off jobs. Skimmer reviewers mention route tools as a strength.
Best fit
Skimmer makes sense when the standing weekly route is the business and technicians adjust stops from the phone.
Jobber fits a company that mixes recurring pools with timed repair appointments and plans everything from one schedule.
2. Water chemistry logging and proof of service
When a customer says nobody serviced the pool, or blames you for a green one, a dated record of who was there, what the water tested at, what you added, and a photo settles the question.
What Skimmer records
Skimmer records readings and dosages on every plan and emails the customer after each stop with readings, dosages, completed checklist items, and photos. Photos are taken in the app, not uploaded from a camera roll. The second plan adds required checklist items with photos, a dosing calculator with LSI guidance, LaMotte test-kit integration, and raises photos from 5 to 20 per visit.
What Jobber records
Jobber can log chemical readings and treatments in checklists from its Connect plan, with up to 10 photos per form, and email the completed checklist to the customer as a PDF. Jobber does not list a built-in dosing calculator or test-kit integration. Its separate chemical tracking tool is web-only and built around pesticide application records.
What reviewers add
Several Skimmer reviewers say the service report with readings and photos is what they value most. Jobber reviewers mostly describe checklists and photos in general terms.
Best fit
Skimmer suits a company that wants every visit to produce a chemistry record without building forms first.
Jobber works if a checklist and photos are enough and detailed dosing happens elsewhere.

3. Repairs, quotes, and one-off jobs
Repairs add a quote, a deposit, parts, and a follow-up visit to the weekly route.
Skimmer quoting and work orders
Skimmer includes one-time work orders and reminders on every plan, plus a shopping list for parts. Its second plan adds quotes, job management, recurring work orders, and consumer financing. Skimmer’s Quotes FAQ says quotes are built by admins on the web, not by technicians in the field; quotes can carry a deposit, show a margin, send reminders, and lead to invoices.
Jobber quoting and job costing
Jobber includes quotes on every plan, with templates. Connect adds automated quote and invoice follow-ups. Grow adds optional line items (for example, an algae treatment on a quote), rich quotes with visuals, job costing, two-way texting, and custom automations. Marketing Suite ($99) and Receptionist ($29) are add-ons on some plans and included in Plus.
Best fit
Jobber lists the broader sales toolkit, which fits a company where repairs and equipment upgrades are a major revenue line or that serves other trades alongside pools.
Skimmer suits a company whose repairs come from problems found during route visits and who wants work orders in the same service history. Its follow-up and job-cost tools are narrower, but they exist.
4. Billing, payments, and QuickBooks
Both tools invoice in bulk and take online payments. The differences are in what each syncs to QuickBooks and in which direction.
Invoicing and payments
Skimmer builds invoices from completed work, including routine service, dosed chemicals, installed items, and work orders. It lets you bill in advance while charging chemicals separately, and customers can pay by card, ACH, Apple Pay, or Google Pay. Jobber offers batch invoicing, progress invoicing for larger jobs, Tap to Pay, and, from the Connect plan, automatic payments and invoice follow-ups.
QuickBooks integration
Skimmer’s QuickBooks Online sync is one-way, from Skimmer to QuickBooks, on every plan. When updates to customers, products, work order types, dosages, invoices, and payments are saved, Skimmer sends them to QuickBooks; invoice and payment data is sent when a payment is added to an invoice. Skimmer’s pricing page lists no other accounting integration. Jobber’s newer QuickBooks Online integration, available from Connect, syncs one way from Jobber: clients, products and services, invoices, payments, and timesheets. Paid status does not sync back and edits belong in Jobber.
What reviewers add
Several Jobber reviewers report issues with QuickBooks sync, including mismatched invoice numbers, tax rates, and duplicate customers. Skimmer reviewers who mention billing mostly ask for more invoice and reporting customization.
Best fit
Skimmer suits a company billing a standing route with chemicals and repairs that needs only QuickBooks Online.
Jobber makes sense if you need Xero, progress invoicing, or a wider payments toolkit and will check the sync periodically.

5. Field app and customer updates
Neither tool needs special hardware, since both run on phones and tablets your team already carries.
Skimmer app and customer updates
Skimmer lists iPad, iPhone, and Android apps; it says the native app holds service data when signal is low and uploads it when connection returns. The app shows gate codes, equipment, and prior readings at the stop, and technicians can report issues with up to five photos. Customers get service emails, optional service texts, and a portal with service history and invoices.
Jobber app and customer updates
Jobber has iOS and Android apps where technicians complete checklists, add notes, and take payments; its help center says checklist updates are stored on the device offline and sync after reconnection. Customers get automated reminders from Connect, on-my-way texts above its lowest-priced plan, and a client hub for quotes, visits, and payments. Jobber's app serves many trades, so technicians see menus a pool route does not need.
What reviewers add
Several reviewers of both tools say the mobile app does less than the web version for admin tasks, such as viewing jobs or payout amounts.
Best fit
Skimmer suits technicians who log readings from one pool-specific screen.
Jobber works for a team already comfortable with a general-purpose app or using one tool across several service lines.
6. Pricing and support as you add technicians and pools
The two tools bill on different units, so the entry prices alone do not show which is cheaper for your route.
Starting prices and billing units
Skimmer starts at $49 per month and charges per serviced location (a service address that can include several pools or spas), with unlimited technicians, admins, and customers. The examples below assume one pool per location. Jobber starts at $49 per month for one user and charges per plan, with a set number of users and $29 per extra user. Jobber counts anyone who accesses the account to view or manage the schedule as a user, so not every employee needs a paid seat.
| Pricing tier | Skimmer | Jobber |
|---|---|---|
| Entry plan | Getting Started: $1 per location, $49 minimum, positioned for 0 to 49 locations. Route builder, one-time work orders, readings and dosages, invoicing, portal, service emails, QuickBooks Online; 5 photos per visit | Core: $49 for 1 user; extra users $29 each. Quotes, jobs, invoices, online booking, client hub, payments. No routing or checklists |
| Second plan | Scaling Up: $2 per location, $98 minimum. Adds route optimizer, quotes and jobs, dosing calculator, test-kit sync, required checklist items, live phone support, unlimited service texts, 20 photos per visit | Connect: $139 (1 user), $199 (5), $299 (10), $399 (15). Adds routing, checklists, automated reminders, automatic payments, quote and invoice follow-ups, QuickBooks Online, time and expense tracking |
| Third plan | No separate plan | Grow: $199 (1 user), $299 (5), $399 (10), $499 (15). Adds job costing, two-way texting, optional line items, rich quotes, automation builder |
| Top plan | Enterprise: custom pricing from 1,000 locations; custom reports, priority support, success manager | Plus: $499 (5 users), $599 (10), $699 (15). Adds unlimited photo and video storage, crew scheduling, custom reports, marketing suite, AI receptionist, premium support |
Prices are monthly
Cost example: 40 to 300 pools
The example uses published monthly rates as of October 2026. It assumes each pool is its own serviced location, about 55 pools per technician, the owner working in the office once the route passes 100 pools, and an admin added at 180 pools. Jobber users are the owner plus technicians (plus the admin), priced at the smallest published bundle that fits, so these are bundle-based examples. Skimmer’s Getting Started plan is priced for up to 49 locations and Jobber’s Core plan is one user, so both appear only in the solo example.
| Route size and users | Skimmer Getting Started | Skimmer Scaling Up | Jobber Core | Jobber Connect |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 40 pools, 1 user | $49 | $98 | $49 | $139 |
| 100 pools, 3 users | $100 | $200 | N/A | $199 |
| 180 pools, 5 users | $180 | $360 | N/A | $199 |
| 300 pools, 8 users | $300 | $600 | N/A | $299 (10-user bundle) |
Comparing the two plans that add route optimization, Skimmer's total is $41 lower at 40 pools, $1 higher at 100, $161 higher at 180, and $301 higher at 300. At the entry plan, both cost $49 for one user, but Skimmer's includes readings, dosages, and service emails and Jobber's does not include routing or checklists.
Payment processing
Skimmer's help center lists cards at 2.9% + $0.25 (plus 0.5% for keyed or recurring payments) and ACH at 1% + $0.25 with a $10 cap. Jobber lists cards at 2.9% + $0.30, Tap to Pay at 2.7% + $0.30, and ACH at 1%.
Messaging, add-ons, and extra users
Skimmer's lowest-priced plan charges $0.029 per service text; texts are unlimited on Scaling Up. Skimmer add-ons include AI Phone ($99), Marketing Suite ($150), and bookkeeping (from $198). Jobber add-ons include extra users ($29 each), Receptionist ($29 with 30 conversations a month and $0.79 per additional conversation if you continue past the limit; unlimited in Plus), Pipeline ($49), and Marketing Suite ($99).
Implementation, migration, and support
Skimmer states no setup fees and no contracts on its pricing page. It lets you import customers from QuickBooks Online or from an Excel or CSV file. Jobber’s Plus plan includes dedicated onboarding and premium support. Jobber lists unlimited chat, phone, and email support on every plan. Skimmer lists customer support lite on Getting Started and live phone support from Scaling Up.
What the examples exclude: card processing, text messages, add-ons, one-time onboarding or migration help, and sales tax.
Best fit
Skimmer is the lower-cost option for solo and small routes, and the bill does not rise when you add technicians.
Jobber becomes the lower-cost option as pool counts grow past what a fixed user bundle covers, especially for a stable team size.

FAQs about Skimmer vs. Jobber
These answers cover the questions pool companies most often ask when choosing between Skimmer and Jobber, from cost and QuickBooks to records and trials.
Q1. How much do Skimmer and Jobber cost for a small pool company?
Billed monthly, Skimmer starts at $49 with 49 serviced locations included, and Jobber starts at $49 for one user. Route optimization needs Skimmer's $98 minimum plan or Jobber's $139 Connect plan. At 100 locations and three users, the two optimizer plans are $200 and $199, using Jobber's published bundle.
Q2. Which is better for a small pool service company, Skimmer or Jobber?
Skimmer fits a small company whose core work is weekly routes and chemistry records, since readings, dosages, photos, and service emails are built in. Jobber fits when repairs, quotes, or other service lines matter as much as the route.
Q3. Should I use Jobber or a pool-specific app like Skimmer if I do repairs as well as weekly service?
Either can work. Skimmer includes one-time work orders on every plan and adds quotes and job management on its second plan. Jobber offers more quote customization, with follow-ups from Connect and optional line items from Grow. If repairs come from route findings, Skimmer keeps one history; if repair sales is a separate line, Jobber goes further.
Q4. How do pool companies document water chemistry with Skimmer or Jobber?
Skimmer records readings, dosages, a checklist, and photos at each stop on every plan and emails them to the customer. Jobber does this with checklists from Connect, including photos and a PDF to the customer. In both, the record is dated, so you can pull up a past visit during a dispute.
Q5. Do Skimmer and Jobber work with QuickBooks?
Both connect to QuickBooks Online and sync one way. Skimmer sends customers, products, invoices, payments, and related data on every plan. Jobber's newer integration, from Connect, sends clients, products, invoices, payments, and timesheets from Jobber and does not sync paid status back. Jobber also lists Xero.
Q6. Does Skimmer or Jobber handle recurring weekly routes better?
Skimmer is built around a standing weekly route, with a route builder on every plan and an optimizer on the second plan. Jobber books recurring visits and optimizes visits without set times from Connect, on the web. For identical weekly stops, Skimmer's model is the closer match.
Q7. Do Skimmer and Jobber work on the phones and tablets my technicians already use?
Skimmer lists iPad, iPhone, and Android apps, and Jobber has iOS and Android apps. Before choosing, have one technician complete a real stop on a device you already own, including a photo, a reading, and a report, then reconnect after losing signal.
Q8. Will my technicians actually use the Skimmer or Jobber app at each stop?
Reviewers of both tools describe approachable daily use. The deciding factor is how many steps a stop needs, so run one week of your real route in a trial, then remove fields technicians skip and require only the ones that protect you.
Q9. Is there free pool service software, and do Skimmer and Jobber offer a free plan?
Neither has a free plan. Skimmer offers a first month free on Scaling Up for new customers who sign up through its promotion link, with up to 49 locations included and extra locations billed afterward, plus a separate 30-day refund guarantee. Jobber offers a 14-day trial of Grow with no credit card. A trial is a time-limited test and a refund window is a guarantee, so they are not the same.
Q10. Are chemical logs legally required for pool service companies, and does Skimmer or Jobber cover that?
Requirements depend on your state and local health authority. The CDC's Model Aquatic Health Code is guidance aimed at public aquatic facilities, not a universal logging rule for every residential pool service company, and it points readers to local and state codes. I did not verify jurisdiction-specific rules, so check with your local health department and insurer. Skimmer and Jobber can produce dated readings, dosages, and photos for each visit, which are records you can show a customer.
Match the software to your weekly work
Three things decide this choice: whether chemistry records and a standing route are your core work, how much repair and quoting work sits beside the route, and how large your team and route will be. The first points to Skimmer, the second to Jobber, and the third depends on your totals in the cost table.
Your next step is to run one real week of your route through each trial, including one repair quote and one invoice. Then compare the records each tool produced.
