Recipe Costing overview

What is Recipe Costing?

Recipe Costing Software is a cloud-based recipe costing and restaurant management solution designed to assist businesses with cost control, inventory management, sales data tracking, and more. Recipes, sub-recipes, and menu items can be costed, and users can manage allergy and nutrition information for all of their ingredients and finished goods.

Users can create fully-costed menu items, recipes, and sub-recipes, including the cost of ingredients, materials, and labor. Cost breakdowns for both the total recipe and individual portions can be viewed and tracked. Integration with the USDA database allows users to search for nutritional information for standard or branded food products, and print nutrition labels for their finished goods. Allergen information can be added for each ingredient and is automatically carried through into any recipes or menu items made with that ingredient. Inventory can be tracked and managed, with options for multiple par levels for different locations, point of sale (POS) integration for real-time inventory updates, and inventory transfer between locations.

Key benefits of using Recipe Costing

  • Allergens for individual ingredients can be added or removed, including celery, eggs, peanut, soya, nuts, crustaceans, fish, lactose, mustard, sesame, sulphur dioxide, and gluten, and allergen information is automatically carried through into recipes, sub-recipes, and menu items.

  • Portion sizes and inventory counts can be tracked using a range of different units, both metric and imperial, and different par levels can be set for item inventories across multiple locations.

  • Users can search the USDA database for nutritional information for both standard and branded food products, and use this information to calculate nutritional information for recipes and menu items.

  • Recipes and sub-recipes can be created using food, material, and labor costs, and details of both the total recipe cost and individual portion costs are displayed to users.

  • If a recipe is marked as a ‘Finished Good’, the ingredients are automatically removed from the inventory when the prep list is completed, and replaced with stock of the finished item.
