Microsoft Intune is a cloud-based enterprise mobility management (EMM) solution which allows businesses to manage the devices their employees use to access company data, manage mobile apps for their workforce, protect company data with access and sharing controls, and ensure compliance of apps and devices with company security requirements. Intune is integrated with Azure Active Directory (AD) for access control and identity management, and with Azure Information Protection to protect data.

With Intune, users can manage all Windows, macOS, iOS and Android devices from a single platform, with support for company-managed, employee-managed, and third-party-managed devices. Mobile device management (MDM) tools allow users to enroll devices, provision settings, profiles, and certificates, measure and report on device compliance, and remove any corporate data from devices, while mobile application management (MAM) functionality enables the publishing, configuration and updating of apps to user devices, app inventory and usage reporting, and removal of corporate data from within apps. Conditional access rules allow users to define policies to provide contextual controls at the app, device, location, and user levels, with natural prompts to ensure that sensitive data can only be accessed by authorized users through compliant devices.

Intune can also protect Office 365 data across all devices, including unmanaged devices. Identity-driven protection enables the protection of data at the app rather than the device level, allowing employees to use both their personal and work accounts with the same application, and making it possible to remove corporate identity and data without affecting employees’ personal data or apps. With data loss prevention control, users can require encryption for the local storage of managed apps, prevent copy-paste outside of managed apps, and only allow files to be saved to secure locations.
