Giridhar P.: My name is Giridhar. I work as manager, data engineering. And I give ManageEngine for Desktop Central a review of four out of five stars. For more details, please click below. Before we went with ManageEngine for Desktop Central, the organization was operating all of their client workstations on a stand-alone mode. So all of the service pack installations, and the patch installations and stuff were done on a standalone basis on the individual workstations. And it was not only time consuming, but also gave a very tough time for maintenance aspects, as well, which was the core reason why we had to choose for a centralized node of installations. And that's when we hand-picked ManageEngine for Desktop Central. When we were piloting the tools that were needed for maintenance of all of the software installations from one node and zone, we figured out that ManageEngine for Desktop Central not only supported laptops and workstations, but also devices like phones, from a remote location. So that was the key factor why we had to rely on ManageEngine for Desktop Central. So from a corporate front, there were different employees who were required to be outside of work for the marketing aspects and for promoting the products that we were involved with, so it was vital that all the patch installations and the service pack installations not only happened on laptops, but also on cell phones. So we wanted to rely on a tool that was not only going to act as a centralized repository to service the installation point for all of these devices, but also that could support multiple platforms. So, after we chose ManageEngine for Desktop Central, we were not disappointed in any way. It served all of our objective and coordinates to its utmost [inaudible 00:02:13]. So the ManageEngine for Desktop Central was relatively easy to get started with. So the administrative aspects of the tool to get installed on the noted server was relatively straightforward. There were a lot of documentations that were available on their website, as well as on Google search, that assisted with ensuring that the key software executables were installed on the main server. So even though there were certain challenges that we faced in terms of identifying the right ones, we were always able to find the answers on Google and on the website associated with ManageEngine for Desktop Central. So, in a nutshell, it was a great experience overall figuring out what necessities were, but on an overall front it was self explanatory and it served our purpose [inaudible 00:03:12]. So I would definitely say if you are any small-scale or medium-to-high scale organization having at least about 50 employees, and if you want to make sure that all of the service installations and the software patches that are needed, that needs to be in sync, definitely ManageEngine for Desktop Central is your option, because it gives you an option to ensure that all of these core installations take place in unison and in a synchronized way. There's absolutely zero discrepancy when it comes to the version of the software that you're looking for, or the service pack that you're looking for, including the patch. And it has pretty stiff, I would say, mechanism to protect itself from the routine vulnerabilities that could target your system. So I would say if you're an organization that has at least 20, or more, employees that require a common form of workstations and phones to offer support for any type of client, then ManageEngine for Desktop Central should be your first choice.

    Desktop Central: Tech Perspective

    Reviewed 3 years ago

Preston: Hi, my name is Preston. I'm a system administrator. I give ManageEngine Desktop Central a four out of five. For more reviews like this, click the link below. Before we had ManageEngine Desktop Central, we primarily used Goverlan Remote Control. We had other random remote control products and management tools out there. The main reason we are now primarily using ManageEngine Desktop Central is to bring everything under one house of a product. We are now doing a lot more configurations and managing through there, rather than Group Policy or Goverlan. We still use all those other things, but ManageEngine Desktop Central just gave us the most features, functionality, and overall was simple for our text to be able to configure and use. We chose ManageEngine Desktop Central because it allows you to push out configuration settings to lots of endpoints. We have 3,000 plus endpoints and users, and we use ManageEngine Desktop Central to push out configurations and settings. Something as simple as a map drive, to something as complicated as a PowerShell script that's performing custom actions and answer report back to us. It also has a deep and rich reporting feature that allows us to query objects and to report what we ask it for. ManageEngine Desktop Central is overall fairly simple to set up. We went with the version that is housed on-premises. So, just needed to install it on a dedicated server, and after that, it was pretty much ready to go. The only other complicating piece was external access, making sure the right things were setup in our firewall, things of that nature. But after we got that all set up and configured for the backend, it was ready to go, and then just was sending up things as needed for our endpoints in the clients. The best way for you to determine if ManageEngine Desktop Central is for you is of course, to assess what your situation is, figure out where your gaps are, and then go through and compare ManageEngine Desktop Central. We use it as a replacement for a group policy, for remote controls, and for even encryption security policies. So, if those are things you're looking for, ManageEngine a great choice, but you have to figure out that yourself, depending on what holes you have in your environment and that you need filled.

Tries to do too many things

    Reviewed 6 years ago

This product advertises a lot of features and functionalities that try to make the solution a one-stop shop for IT departments. Unfortunately none of the features work well or work at all. When compared with other patching solutions, software deployment solutions and help desk toolsets, it falls flat on its face and does not meet the demands of an enterprise sized organization. Support staff is foreign based and can be very difficult working against the language barriers or trying to explain the problem even though they appear to be trying to help.

    Pros

Useful dashboard for inventory of hardware and software.

    Cons

Patching is extremely complicated compared to competitors. Agents deployed to endpoints consume large amount of CPU and RAM. Customer support is a small team with most tickets taking 3 days minimum. Every case starts with uploading logs. Product patches are being released constantly to fix the large number of bugs in software. Bandwidth management for remote offices does not function well and will easily consume an entire circuit. If this happens it is difficult to stop the traffic until the action has completed. Small mistakes can have big consequences when configuring deployments.

    Vendor response

Hello, Greetings from ManageEngine! We're glad you like our intuitive dashboard for hardware and software inventory. We're sorry about your unpleasant experience with the product. Our patching today has transcended and become a lot more seamless with the introduction of automated patch deployment tasks, wherein every stage of the patch cycle is automated. We've grown as a team, and currently we have quite a lot of support technicians who can resolve your issues in a jiffy. Our product upgrades are no longer about issue fixes, rather we're releasing top-notch features - requested by our customers, and the ones that meet market standards. If you require further assistance with the product features, do write to us at cms-eval@manageengine.com.
