Pros

They have great features and the Capital option is totally awesome. I wouldn't trade them for the world.
Stripe is a great tool and platform, very easy to use easy to setup and secure that clients can trust with their accounts.
I think Stripe is great payment gateway for any eCommerce business. They have great rates and I find them better than other payment processors.

Pros

I love the simplicity of the software. I love being able to accept credit card or debit card payments directly on my phone with the small noninvasive card reader that i attach to my phone.
I love this software, our employees love it too because it gives them better tips at the end of the day.
Simple reporting is my favorite feature, especially compared to other platforms. Helping my clients with meaningful reporting without having to modify the data is super convenient.

Cons

They refunded customers 3 months after the purchase without me knowing and they already have their items. My customers are also upset with this disgusting company.
Fees for same country payments are too high and once funds have been taken they are then held for 14 days. Appalling customer service who basically said too bad.
They verified it was a scammer, refunded the stolen credit card, did not charge me fees and contacted the US internet fraud division with the information.

Cons

I do not think I have have anything I do not like about square payments. I guess if you put in the wrong email that can be annoying but that more user error.
I had to walk around & often ended up some distance away from the customer. It was awkward because I had to have their card with me & this probably made the customer feel uneasy.
It also bothered me that they charge more to type in the card numbers when you’re unable to swipe the card in person.

Stripe

Reliable, easy to use payment processing

Reviewed 5 years ago

We have used AuthorizeNet, Square, and Stripe for our processing. So far, I'm much happier with Stripe than the others due to the ease of use, both in configuration and reviewing reports. After trying Stripe with one business, we quickly decided to move the others over. I hope they get around to adding a mobile solution similar to Square.

Pros

The best part of Stripe is how easy it is to set up. I'm using it for multiple businesses. Setting up each business was quick, easy, and error free. I'm able to access each business with a single login, but each business is kept independent, so it's clear and always easy to see which account I'm reviewing. In addition, adding others that need to have access (partners, bookkeeper, assistant), and granting them only the privileges they need has been equally straightforward. We have both custom applications that we needed to integrate Stripe with, as well as off the shelf packages/services and have found it very easy to set up for all of our uses. Navigating purchases, receipts, and reports is also easy. We have had no issues at all with service so far.

Cons

The only thing I'm disappointed by is the lack of a mobile solution. For mobile payments, we're using Square.

Costly to take payments

Reviewed 4 years ago

Its okay, but not the best for taking payments with compared to other alternatives

Pros

Easy to setup on ipad, easy to take payments, good UI on app to check on balances and transactions and any other information

Cons

Very costly, they take a big chunk of payments vs other competitors like Paypal or Square. Hardware is also buggy and breaks quickly

Almost as good as Square

Reviewed 5 years ago

No problems, quick payment, and it just works.

Pros

It was the default option for client payments through 17hats, which now also accepts Square, and was very easy to set up. The rates are the same, I believe.

Cons

It gave me no option to let clients add a gratuity, at least through 17hats, which is how I use it.

Affordable Option

Reviewed 4 years ago

There is an ease in using stripe and greater affordability than their competitors.

Pros

I use square through a software platform so do not have hands-on use of their app. I just receive payment from them and they process payments relatively quickly.

Cons

It sometimes takes longer, up to five days to receive payment than I would with their competitors like Square, Venmo or Paypal.

Very easy to use and a life saver when i lost my square card and needed to process payments. you do not need a device for it to work. cheaper fees compared to others

Cons

i dont really have a con but some people did not like me using this app because they felt i was taking a picture of their card when i was really using strip to just scan it for payment.

Stripe gets me paid!

Reviewed 5 years ago
Pros

I have all my business's recurring billing running through stripe. It's been pretty much set it and forget it unless clients' card info need re-entering if they have a new card, for example. I used to use square but went to stripe because of the recurring payments feature.

Cons

I don't get emails when payments don't go through. I have to log in and then see if any payments have failed by going to the payments page. I'd like to get my deposits the next day, like with square, instead of the second business day. When there's a back holiday weekend that really pushes payments back. I am not a developer so I use Plugnpaid to create simple interfaces to embed on a website for folks to pay me for services.

Best card processing

Reviewed 4 years ago

As a back office processing system with good security and good user interface, it can't be beat.

Pros

Low rate, excellent security, prompt direct transfer to bank account, good analytics, embeds on website and works without making people leave my site, clear user interface, good integration with other software, intelligent processing (e.g. prevents double subscriptions)

Cons

Not much at all that i don't like, as long as I'm not expecting it to do things it can't do. It is better, for example, than PayPal in website processing but can't replace PayPal or Square for one on one payments.

Pros

Easy to integrate in my electronic medical record system for billing purposes Payments go through quickly Possibility for automatic payments Minimal/reasonable fees Easy to use

Stayed behind the competition.

Reviewed 4 years ago

It was a safe and secure way for our customers to take care of their invoices with us, so we were happy to use it until another alternatives showed up.

Pros

When we are on the early stages of our business, Stripe was our GO TO platform for payments, it was easy, it had a standard 3 days, but with time, their competition ie: Square, Zelle, Venmo etc came with different ways to get paid even faster and we stopped using it.

Cons

They didn't have a better platform to be a stand alone company adding some accounting or invoicing back when we were using it, don't know about now.

A great payment gateway for API driven workflows.

Reviewed 4 years ago

For use with existing g plugins stripe is an easy payment gateway to get started with and you don't have to deal with any sales people or bank administrators.

Pros

For use cases where an API workflow steady exists, stripe is easily a preferred method for me. Many existing e-commerce plugins out there already support stripe and you can set up physical POS hardware to use it as well.

Cons

Stripe isn't quite as easy to use out of the box like square is and it lacks some of the built in sales methods that square does. I believe it s a different animal though and can't be Co pared directly.

Unreasonable fees for Refunded Charges, Unrealistic Hold Times on Payments, Including Low Risk Payments

Reviewed 6 years ago

I subsequently closed my account and continue to use Square and PayPal, which have no similar ridiculous policies.

Pros

This integrates with almost anything, Zapier, IFTTT, Integromat, Invoicing Software, etc; which makes it very convenient. Features are good if you are a developer.

Cons

Upon creating an account, I experienced a long wait period for my account to be approved (about 2 weeks) mostly due to an oversight by the team to activate my account. Then, I was put on a 'high risk' status even though my profession and sales were in the LOW risk category. I also provided all of the required identification and documents to be a 'low risk' status user, however after a few more days...

Good Backup Option

Reviewed 5 years ago

Overall, it’s a very solid backup option for my business. Square is still my first choice as they provide funds quicker. If Stripe released funds as quickly as Square, I would probably use them as my primary payment processor. I will continue to keep my Stripe account open.

Pros

I found that it was pretty easy to get an account set up and was easy to start collecting payments.

Cons

I disliked that after collecting a certain amount of money, you are required to provide more personal information to Stripe. I also disliked the number of days before a payment will be deposited into your bank account compared to Square.

Square Payments

A very feature-loaded, robust payment system

Reviewed 5 years ago

It helps keep expenses lower, which is great when you are processing in high volume as fees do add up.

Pros

Well, first, its eCommerce 2.9% fee is cheaper than Stripe's 3.4% fee for my country. That is in itself enough reason to switch over. I also love that it's not as confusing as Stripe can be. Where one can easily tell that Stripe is not a front-end tool and meant for developers, Square seems to have every solution easily in place for the tech-challenged. It's easy to set up almost anything—an eCommerce store, an iPad terminal, a register, a stand... you can even swipe and take payments on your phone using the app.

Cons

There seems nothing to dislike, it's cheaper and pays out much faster than Stripe!

Easy service to sign up for and use. Square is great for service businesses

Reviewed 5 years ago
Pros

Easy to set up and use, a great way to tack money and process payment for in-person service-based businesses.

Cons

Not great for recurring payments, couldn't find a solution for this on this platform and decided to go with stripe for this instead.

Takes the guessing out of work

Reviewed a year ago

It works rapidly, without fail (except if the card stripe is terrible). Square gives information input at every one of the basic points which can be switched off in the event that you don't need it. I additionally love Square's approaches: evaluating, choice for quicker settlement, and they offer loads of different elements for private venture. I don't utilize those yet they look very great. I've utilized Authorize.net, Braintree, Stripe, and Endlessly Square is far superior to the rest.

Pros

I love the fact there was more options at every turn especially with the different payment metods like cash app etc. It saves a spreadsheet like feature that can integrate into your accounting software, and I found this to be very easy.

Cons

I think if more payment methods was available, it would be a complete all in one POS system.

Collecting Money Made Easy

Reviewed 4 years ago

Using the square reader and software literally take 5 seconds to capture the credit card information and collect the money which is deposited in my account within 3 days!

Pros

Sometimes collecting money from patients can be trying and difficult. Oh you forgot your cash? No problem, we can take credit cards due to Square! The free hardware and software makes it easy to collect money via credit cards!

Cons

I do wish that the Chip card readers were free like the magnetic stripe readers, but I did pony up and buy the chip readers to protect the medical practice from credit card fraud

Here's why to choose Square over other payment servicers

Reviewed 3 years ago

Overall, I appreciate the user experience while using Square. If you're less tech-savvy, Square may be the best option for you compared to Stripe. I suggest you play around with it though to see whether the features best suit your specific needs.

Pros

Simple reporting is my favorite feature, especially compared to other platforms. Helping my clients with meaningful reporting without having to modify the data is super convenient.

Cons

Depending on your specific needs, you may find subscription functionality to be lacking.

Super easy to set up and use

Reviewed 2 years ago
Pros

We moved away from Stripe for our online store to Square and couldn't be happier. It was a breeze to set up and connects with our financial institution seamlessly which was a great feature we didn't realize was available when we signed up.

Cons

We've yet to experience anything that we don't like about Square

Solid, Not Spectacular, For Payment Processing

Reviewed 5 years ago

It's a really good payment system that would work well for most small to medium businesses out there.

Pros

It's definitely not that hard to set it up and get it going. It's also nice to be able to accept credit card payments without having the physical card with you for those rare clients who still pay over the phone.

Cons

The fees are steep for a small business with not a big volume of daily transactions. Also, the magnetic stripe reader that I bought years ago kinda doesn't work that well. It makes me hesitant to buy the EMV reader version.

An excellent, very affordable payment software

Reviewed 4 years ago

Square is fantastic. The mag stripe reader is free, the tap/chip reader is very reasonably priced ($60) and the online site is very easy to navigate. There is a simple button for many features, such as reports and viewing transactions. You can also take payments over the phone by inputting the card numbers.

Pros

I can use square anywhere - either with wifi or cell phone data. I can accept most credit cards, and debit cards either through tap, chip, or mag stripe. It is very easy to setup and start taking payments within minutes. Payments are super fast, I usually get the money deposited the next day.

Cons

If you take a payment over the phone, and manually type in the card number, there is a higher fee for processing that type of payment.

Gets the Job Done Well

Reviewed 2 years ago

Overall I've had a positive experience with Square. It's got a clean interface and it's super easy to use. I do encourage my customers to pay with cash or check when possible, as those fees to add up, but it's there when I need it and is fairly reliable.

Pros

Square was my first choice for payment processing software when I set up my new piano studio. I have several friends who own businesses of various sizes and they recommended Square first. I love that they send you a basic reader for free, though I do recommend the upgrade to the chip/contactless reader. It's incredibly easy to set up different items and prices, and the ability to accept so many different types of payments is great. It's also been handy to be able to generate an invoice to be emailed.

Cons

The software always seems to want to update when I open it, which isn't always convenient, as it can interfere with accepting a payment. The Bluetooth connection is mostly stable, but can be somewhat finnicky depending on the device. The fees are annoying but they are part of having a payment processor and they seem similar to those with Stripe or PayPal.
