Great software for receiving bids.

Reviewed 6 years ago

Smoother bids days and was of communicating with my sub contractors.

Pros

The added value to communicate with all my sub contractors at one given time in one specific scope of work is priceless. I have been using this for over a year and have grown to love all its free features and the paid version is even better. Being able to price check all the bids side by side.

Cons

Getting everyone on board to use the software. Sometimes that is the only challenge that I have. But when everyone is on board man do bid days go so smooth.

Bid invite system that's well worth the price

Reviewed 2 years ago

Overall, this system is amazing. Implementation was simple. You can choose to dial in your uploads with the integration team or start from scratch. Training was in person and super easy and fast. Online videos are available and customer support can help. Estimating teams will be blown away with how easy it is to customize a bid form, collect bids, soft award, complete bid leveling, and win jobs.

Pros

There are so many pros to this online application. To keep it brief: implementation is fast, training is about 15 - 30 minutes, ease of use is insane, capabilities are off the wall with online customizable bid forms, easy file sharing, massively amazing messaging system, brilliant bid leveling online which can be exported and manipulated further, and more! On top of all this, Building Connected integrates with other systems that complete the entire bid to project to close out process.

Cons

The greatest con about this software is that any and everyone can create a fee company listing, so you may view vendor/sub information that's invalid. However, if someone's responsible and reports and edit Building Connected will fix this. Most people don't seem to take this action, though. So don't be surprised if some of the listed information isn't 100% accurate.

Solicit & Communicate Efficiently

Reviewed 4 years ago

Top notch product with excellent customer support that improves our ability to win work.

Pros

BuildingConnected provides users an intuitive interface to organize and solicit subcontractors and vendors on construction projects large & small. The project information tab has the ability to capture an convey general project information both internally and externally feeding into the strong analytical tools. The files tab allows for user customization to project specific documents and requirements....

Cons

Webpage is not optimized for mobile devices. Analytics do not allow for individual projects to be excluded which diminishes the value of the reporting.

Possibly the best Bid Invitation Software available.

Reviewed 4 years ago

We wanted a bid invitation solution that our subcontractors liked, were familiar with, and we wanted a long term partner. So far the relationship with BC has been great. I wish the pricing was a little lower and more comparable to other softwares out there as that would allow me to not have to review other competitor products upon renewal.

Pros

The user-friendly interface allows us to issue bid invitations in a matter of minutes.

Cons

I dislike that you have to use the software to obtain quotes. I wish direct emails were possible without having to go through the web.

Building Connected Review

Reviewed 3 years ago

Building connected is very helpful in keeping all the information in one place. Phone numbers, email, fax, and even various personnel available within the program. Very easy to use and I would highly recommend to colleagues

Pros

It was very convenient being able to add the variety of trades when inquiring on a new or updated price for new drawings. Everything was organized very well to include the bidders and files pertaining to the specific sections

Cons

What could use more work within this software is the ability to easily add a proposal received from a bidder not previously added to the software. There are times when bidders are told about a job from other coworkers and send a price in without an invitation to building connected. It gets tough adding them as it requires you to add to the system instead of just directly adding the proposal as needed.

We Choose to Build with Building Connected!

Reviewed 7 years ago

We use the integration with Building Connected to Procore, which simplifies the process of turning a bid into a contract or purchase order. If you use both or one of these systems, we definitely recommend using them as a pair.

Pros

The ability to track and store all of our bids in one place. We can run reports and review previous bids for estimating new projects, pre-qualify our subcontractors with a customized questionnaire, and store templates for bid contact lists separated by cost code/bid package and organized by locations, type of project, category, or really anything we need!

Cons

We cannot edit the sub's contact information, and companies are not the best at keeping emails and company information up to date in the system. If the company is not in the system, then we can add them with email, but can't store any of their company info (name, address, etc).

BuildingConnected for Bid Management

Reviewed 5 years ago
Pros

I like the number of subcontractors that are within the database and also how easy it is for new subs to sign up if they are not already. I also value their customer support team, as they are always available when I need their support.

Cons

The ability to save or export messages sent and received in BuildingConnected.

Great product, best on the market

Reviewed 4 years ago

We have been more than pleased, it has been a good purchase for us without a doubt.

Pros

Document control and ease of use. The document management has paid for the cost of the software by documenting who has accessed documents and when they were accessed. Also, the ease of use has significantly decreased the amount of time that we spend assisting subcontractors and vendors in pre-construction.

Cons

It would be great to be able to view a document rather than having to download the file first. There should also be some flexibility in formatting, data selection for reports.

Building Connected Review

Reviewed 5 years ago

I've been using building connected for two years and its been great. It is very easy to use not only for the estimating team but also for our subcontractors. If the project if awarded to our company we then invite the project management team to the project. They download all the bid forms submitted to an excel document that is later used during scoping meetings.

Pros

Easy to use Communication with subcontractors is very easy Can add notes Very easy to upload bid forms and scope description Easy to see who has submitted bids and identify low bidder immediately Easy to download bid form for additional scoping

Cons

One of the things I like the least about the software is that when we have to send bid invites to only specific subcontractors we have to go through the entire list and uncheck the ones we don't want to invite. This can be a little time consuming when we have to delete 20 or more subcontractors from our work package. The only other thing that could be improved is better identification of union vs non-union subcontractors.

My, how you've grown!

Reviewed 6 years ago

As a trade contractor doing about $5 million a year I've been getting plans and proposals from GC's via BuildingConnected's 'Private plan room' for several years now. I've noticed recently the change in GUI and functionality and investigated. I wound up with a few days to test drive the full product and liked it quite a bit. Unfortunately I'm not convinced of the day to day justification for the...

Pros

The ability to find those GC's that are bidding on the same projects (why not submit your proposal to all bidders?) easily and accurately. The almost infinitely customizable search interface. Finding new GC's in regional markets and being able to research them and their projects BEFORE I ask to be included in ITB's! Integration with my current 'free' account.

Cons

Not an even rudimentary ability to manage MY subcontractors and vendors! They offer this feature in a richly granular way in the product they market to GC's, put a stripped down version HERE if you REALLY want to attract trade contractors!! Probably too costly for the returns for many trade contractors, yet not feature rich enough to appeal to larger trade contractors.

Great for Quickly Putting Together Bid Requests, Especially for Out of Town Projects

Reviewed 2 years ago
Pros

It makes finding out of town bidders a breeze. It’s great for building relationships with subcontractors and keeping on top of the bid process. Being able to see who viewed the invitations, who plans on bidding and who isn’t opening them is so helpful. The ability to send messages to the whole project or just an isolated trade saves so much time.

Cons

It’s a bit expensive and seems to go up every year without adding much additional functionality. The bid leveling tool isn’t all that useful because it doesn’t take into consideration the fact that bids aren’t always apples to apples.

BuildingConnected

Reviewed 8 years ago

Needed an easy to use, easy to implement bidding tool to distribute RFP's and build smart bidding lists. Building Connected so far is keeping up with my needs and is so much better than the other tool we were using.

Pros

Price, usability, easily implemented and I can access from anywhere. I prefer web access and some online tools seem to be trying to hard, but this one fits in nicely and responds well as an interface.

Cons

In estimating, you are only as good as people who use the tool, and if a vendor is old school (most are), they won't always interact and respond through the system. Getting vendors in through the gateway is hit and miss, but this isn't a fault, per say, of the tool.

It doesn't get any easier

Reviewed 4 years ago

All of my experiences with Building Connected have been nothing but pleasant. Their staff is friendly, helpful and very knowledgeable.

Pros

Ease of use, I wish all products and platforms were as easy to use.

Cons

Cost is likely prohibitive. As with many companies, we are under strict budgetary discretions at the moment and need to be fiscally conscious. Hopefully this is something I can present without too much sticker shock.

It works for the purpose we use it. The subcontractors in our region are willing to use it. Our information seems safe.

Pros

It streamlines subcontractor communication/management during project pricing.

Cons

Sending docs to the correct person within an organization. The right person is often not listed.

GREAT TOOL FOR PRILIMINARY STAGE OF CONTRACT

Reviewed 5 years ago

very good for storing project information , keeping track of all bids and sub-contractors made easy

Pros

Bidding is what we do at the preliminary stage of a contract, this product gives us the privilege to organise and gather contractors information, review and preview their bids, in other to make a perfect selection base on excellence and their presented cost feasibility, we also use the product for estimating new project cost.

Cons

the problem of getting sub-contractors on board to know how to use the product to submit their bids, and keeping companies information updated ones submitted seems to be impossible

Too bad they got rid of the free version

Reviewed 2 years ago

It was great when they had a free version that would allow 3 project to be posted. The costs now have made this unrealistic for me to use. Back to emails and Dropbox.

Pros

Was a great tool for small GCs to post jobs and relay information/files to all trades in one centralized location

Cons

THE COST!! At a starting price of over $3K USD they have basically shut out any small GCs like myself.

Good Product for Large Company

Reviewed 5 years ago
Pros

It's a powerful tool that has thus far proved to be an improvement over our previous software. It has helped us to consolidate multiple tools and streamlined our processes.

Cons

Implementation across our company wasn't as smooth as we would have hoped. Training people to use it took some time. Also, limited licenses (due to cost) has forced us to be selective about who uses the product.
