Pros and cons

All of my experiences with Building Connected have been nothing but pleasant. Their staff is friendly, helpful and very knowledgeable.
Top notch product with excellent customer support that improves our ability to win work.
It is the best "software" on the market. With the integration into the whole Autodesk family, BuildingConnected is definitely the best "bang for your buck.
This should be for ALL cases where one needs to type information. There is too many BAD EMAIL ADDRESSES identified in the database that NEVER get corrected.
I dislike that you have to use the software to obtain quotes.
No mobile device support, and trying to get subcontractors to all submit on the platform has proved difficult.

Bid invite system that's well worth the price

Reviewed 2 years ago

Overall, this system is amazing. Implementation was simple. You can choose to dial in your uploads with the integration team or start from scratch. Training was in person and super easy and fast. Online videos are available and customer support can help. Estimating teams will be blown away with how easy it is to customize a bid form, collect bids, soft award, complete bid leveling, and win jobs.

Pros

There are so many pros to this online application. To keep it brief: implementation is fast, training is about 15 - 30 minutes, ease of use is insane, capabilities are off the wall with online customizable bid forms, easy file sharing, massively amazing messaging system, brilliant bid leveling online which can be exported and manipulated further, and more! On top of all this, Building Connected integrates with other systems that complete the entire bid to project to close out process.

Cons

The greatest con about this software is that any and everyone can create a fee company listing, so you may view vendor/sub information that's invalid. However, if someone's responsible and reports and edit Building Connected will fix this. Most people don't seem to take this action, though. So don't be surprised if some of the listed information isn't 100% accurate.

The top apps for finding the best-priced contractors in your area

Reviewed 3 years ago

BuildingConnected offers a pioneering idea for project owners, increasing their ability to get the best prices and also access to specialized contractors to carry out some complex tasks.

Pros

Through reports and lists of contractors, BuildingConnected helps users to finalize bids in every location it covers. The BuildingConnected system will allow you to create your own bid lists, and through those lists provided by BuildingConnected you will be able to send quotation requests to a wide range of contractors, some of whom you may not have previously come into contact with or had any previous knowledge of. BuildingConnected allows you to filter the bids you receive, generate a list of those bids, and eliminate any that you don't want. Getting regular updates on fresh opportunities that align with your company's goals is one of the wonderful benefits of joining BuildingConnected.

Cons

Even though I found the search and filtering capabilities for qualified contractors and estimates to be lacking in accuracy, BuildingConnected is still simple to use.

Building Connected Review

Reviewed 3 years ago

Building connected is very helpful in keeping all the information in one place. Phone numbers, email, fax, and even various personnel available within the program. Very easy to use and I would highly recommend to colleagues

Pros

It was very convenient being able to add the variety of trades when inquiring on a new or updated price for new drawings. Everything was organized very well to include the bidders and files pertaining to the specific sections

Cons

What could use more work within this software is the ability to easily add a proposal received from a bidder not previously added to the software. There are times when bidders are told about a job from other coworkers and send a price in without an invitation to building connected. It gets tough adding them as it requires you to add to the system instead of just directly adding the proposal as needed.

My thoughts having used BUILDING CONNECTED for a number of years.......

Reviewed 4 years ago

Very useful & user friendly, in general.

Pros

Super user friendly (for most who are 'remotely' tech savvy )

Cons

I dislike that subcontractors who view the ITB can close it and do not have to confirm their intent, thus wasting a lot of time when we have to call "non-responders". A feature whereby they cannot leave the ITB without conforming their intent, either way. This would save DAYS of phone calls on each bid chasing people who have no intent of bidding. OR, non-responders should get a daily automatic reminder...

Easier document control for us to share information with our subs and vendors. Program has helped us be more efficient. Does take some "coaching" of our subs and vendors to utilize BC in responding to our invites.

Pros

The program is easy to manage project documentation and communication with vendors and subcontractors.

Cons

Due to the quantity of Building Connected invites/messages received by our subs and vendors it is hard for some to differentiate our ITB's from other ITB's.

Excellent Platform to use for reaching out to Subcontractors

Reviewed 4 years ago

We can view how many times a sub we have reached out to for bidding has provided us with proposals, declined or accepted our invitations, the ease of being able to see a subs prequalification status, and just the overall information BC provides us from bid leveling to the use of PlanGrid, TradeTapp, Box, etc.

Pros

Since I utilize BC on a daily basis, I truly enjoy the ease of creating projects, building bid packages, sending out notifications to all at once or individually, how you can make notes in BC about your conversations with different subs, add tags, add favorites, how things are time stamped and dated, how we can sync the files to Box, add subs for projects we have already published; all in all, it is an extremely easy program to work with.

Cons

The only drawback for me is the fact that we are not able to change any information for a subcontractor, for example, when I know that someone's email address is incorrect, I am not able to change it, we have to "Suggest an Edit" and type in what needs to be amended. However, we do not receive any notifications indicating that the "suggestions" we put through have been changed, accordingly.

Well Organized and easy to manage

Reviewed 4 years ago

We are able to keep all our Projects up for Bid together and it helps that all employees invited to BC can use, store and keep notes so others can see.

Pros

Everything is put together for easy use. There is places to write company notes endless storage space for documents and Plans. Easy to delete and replace employees or outside vendors. Love that we can keep track of analytics. Bids can be sent straight from building connected.

Cons

I don't like that jobs get doubled up, and you can't group 2 different groups together .

Building Connected - pros and cons

Reviewed 4 years ago

It is good for broadcasting bids, requires a lot of extra work to level bids and complete bid forms.

Pros

Nice interface, large list of available subs on the contact list

Cons

Many subcontractors struggle to use the software. It seems as if 1/3 to 1/2 of contacted subs do not get the message or do not respond

GC Use

Reviewed 4 years ago

Overall we find BC to be extremely efficient for our company. We use it daily, bidding 4-5 jobs weekly.

Pros

We utilize the search feature a lot when searching for new sub-contractors to work with, especially in specialty trades we don't often use. I find Building Connected's interface to be extremely user friendly.

Cons

The only thing I dislike about Building Connected is the inability to delete bid packages on your own. Right now you have to reach out to support for them to delete it. I will say they are quick to respond, I just wish I could do it and save the time.

Very Good Bid Invitation/Management System

Reviewed 4 years ago

Easy to manage the bid invitations and entire bid process.

Pros

Getting bid invitations out to the sub market is extremely easy through this software. Also, sending messages/communication out is great.

Cons

I don't really have any serious cons but after using this for over a couple years there are some items that could be improved to make it go from very good to great. (Make it easy to make changes to subcontractor contacts on the fly, providing more options for reports, better customer service platform, etc.)

Possibly the best Bid Invitation Software available.

Reviewed 4 years ago

We wanted a bid invitation solution that our subcontractors liked, were familiar with, and we wanted a long term partner. So far the relationship with BC has been great. I wish the pricing was a little lower and more comparable to other softwares out there as that would allow me to not have to review other competitor products upon renewal.

Pros

The user-friendly interface allows us to issue bid invitations in a matter of minutes.

Cons

I dislike that you have to use the software to obtain quotes. I wish direct emails were possible without having to go through the web.

Solicit & Communicate Efficiently

Reviewed 4 years ago

Top notch product with excellent customer support that improves our ability to win work.

Pros

BuildingConnected provides users an intuitive interface to organize and solicit subcontractors and vendors on construction projects large & small. The project information tab has the ability to capture an convey general project information both internally and externally feeding into the strong analytical tools. The files tab allows for user customization to project specific documents and requirements....

Cons

Webpage is not optimized for mobile devices. Analytics do not allow for individual projects to be excluded which diminishes the value of the reporting.

Small Tweaks Would Be Nice!

Reviewed 5 years ago

98% positive. I do think a "live chat" feature would be nice though!

Pros

I definitely love this software. Love the database and love the ease in adding new people to an invitation after it's already been publishes. I like having these things "at my fingertips" so to speak. I like it's ease in navigation - FOR THE MOST PART, THAT IS. I have indicted below what I did not like. Most of the time I think it's very user-friendly.

Cons

My only negatives are with regard to ease of use when it comes to navigating the site. It seems a little "clunky" sometimes that you have to go through the steps you do to get to certain areas from other areas.....meaning that I think it could be more streamlined to access companies or individuals when you are in one screen without having to get out of where you are and "re-navigate." Building Connected 01

Reviewed 5 years ago

I have used many different software programs before and this is by far the easiest to use.

Pros

This software is easy to use and you can quickly set up a project and get it out the door. When you pull the bar on a project you typically get a lot of coverage, which is very helpful.

Cons

I do not like that you cannot update information when you know it is incorrect. When you suggest an edit, you never know if it is actually changed or not.

Improves Efficiency!

Reviewed 5 years ago

We have become more efficient in our bidding process, allowing us to increase our win percentage, increase our subcontractor coverage and to tackle more projects.

Pros

This software is paramount is organizing and presenting critical bidding information, not only to our subs but also relaying that information back to our Estimating team. The software can be setup to accommodate different levels of detail, with individual projects, or individual bid packages for each project. Easily distribute and download critical project documents.

Cons

A few of our "outdated" subcontractors are hesitant to login and interact with the system.

Jack Grulke

Reviewed 5 years ago

In our business, the more contractors we can get to submit a proposal, the more impressive is our presentation to the client. Our previous goal was to be able to present 3 proposals for each trade to the client. Now it is not unusual to have as many 10 -- or more! Many of these have been sourced from your service. Keep up the good work. Our annual subscription fee to you is well worth the money.

Pros

We get many new contractors from your lists. They are mostly, if not always competent in attendance, professional in attitude and proficient in quality. As we are licensed in all 50 states, we frequently call these new trade partners for repeat contracts in their local markets. Your connections are invaluable in smaller markets where we have not worked before.

Cons

Sometimes the listed trades are incorrect. For example, often a contractor will be listed as "Gypsum" and upon calling, we find they are carpenters and don't do gypsum at all. Also contractors will listed as doing multiple trades that they do not do.

The most helpful part is this can help me to search for new bidders to bid specify trades that i am not familiar.

Great software for receiving bids.

Reviewed 6 years ago

Smoother bids days and was of communicating with my sub contractors.

Pros

The added value to communicate with all my sub contractors at one given time in one specific scope of work is priceless. I have been using this for over a year and have grown to love all its free features and the paid version is even better. Being able to price check all the bids side by side.

Cons

Getting everyone on board to use the software. Sometimes that is the only challenge that I have. But when everyone is on board man do bid days go so smooth.

Love this program!

Reviewed 7 years ago

If your looking for Construction Software call these guys and take it for a test drive, you wont be sorry and your subcontractors will love it.

Pros

Building Connected is the best software out there for me getting my bid invites and access to plans and specs. It so easy to use and everything you need a click away. Contractors that are using this software can send bid invites and access to the plans right to my account. I'm using their Opportunity Manager also, I just forward my bid invites from Contractors who are not using Building Connected to this program and it puts it in order by bid date automatically , much better than me trying to organize my outlook. Another thing about this software when you download plans its way faster than it competition.

Cons

Once in awhile I will have to go in and manually put in the bid date on certain bid invites that I have forwarded to the Opportunity Manager.

We Choose to Build with Building Connected!

Reviewed 7 years ago

We use the integration with Building Connected to Procore, which simplifies the process of turning a bid into a contract or purchase order. If you use both or one of these systems, we definitely recommend using them as a pair.

Pros

The ability to track and store all of our bids in one place. We can run reports and review previous bids for estimating new projects, pre-qualify our subcontractors with a customized questionnaire, and store templates for bid contact lists separated by cost code/bid package and organized by locations, type of project, category, or really anything we need!

Cons

We cannot edit the sub's contact information, and companies are not the best at keeping emails and company information up to date in the system. If the company is not in the system, then we can add them with email, but can't store any of their company info (name, address, etc).
