There is a paid version that you can do too. It's very expensive, and we found it still didn't quite meet our needs. For universities it probably would do the trick, but if you're a small education program, stick with Free for Teacher. Even with its little hassles, Canvas is still the best online classroom you can find out there.
We use the Free for Teacher edition. When it comes to setting up courses, having assignments, files, students, deadlines, and grades set up, it's pretty simple. Not a lot of trouble getting things put together. You can integrate videos, there's a conference capability called Big Blue Button that allows all the members of the course to video in with each other and you can share screen and everything. It has been a big help allowing our students to have a portal to do their assignments, and connect with everyone in the class.
One of the nuances to Canvas that is difficult is limiting what teachers can see. By that I mean we have two different types of courses that we run. One is an individual cohort of a few students and a director. The only way to make these closed down to just these members is to create a duplicate of the course and put those members in. Not a terrible thing, but then the courses start to stack up with...

As a staple in higher education, online and hybrid learning have played a central role in offering courses to a geographically dispersed demographic of students. Canvas provides this ability with a solid product and reliable up time to help us meet these goals.
A very powerful platform with a low threshold for adoption and ease of use. Our instructors rave about the intuitiveness of the course builder features and functionality. Since the pandemic, nearly all of the institution's thousands of courses have content online in Canvas - including the traditional in-person classes.
Integration with our student information system required some additional outside services to that students, courses, and grades could be synced in real time in order to give students immediate access once enrolled for the class.

What I love most about Canvas' software was how simple and easy it is to use. It is the one platform that I have used for six-to-seven years that has allowed me to feel connected to my fellow students and professors most even during classes that were strictly online. It has options like a calendar that automatically shows you all of your assignments on their due dates a weekly and monthly glances....
While it's hard to pick out something that I didn't like about Canvas, I would say that the test and assessment grading system could use some improvement. It's a challenge for students and teachers alike to enter numerical equations that require certain formats such as scientific notation, for example, and it would be wonderful if that could be improved for future use. Even so, Canvas still has a great grading system for other courses that do not require equations and such so I still very much recommend it to anyone.

It is easy and quick to set up even for no technical people. It is a reasonable cost depending on usage.
The first thing I noted about Canvas is that when creating content, the page looks like an MS Word document. This makes creating pages with content easy as the learning curse is very gentle. There is very little need to be technical. It is more a matter of formatting rather than getting to know the software platform itself. The dashboard is clean and modern with easy navigation on the left sidebar...
Video elements management needs improvement, the thumbnails are poor quality and very small. There is no option to edit them. To get a good visual of Office elements needs embedding the content hosted somewhere else. Natively on the platform PDF and PPT display poorly with just vertical scrolling. Exporting An exported courses from Canvas is in a custom format that is not compatible with other LMS platforms. This makes it hard to move between platforms. There not much customization of learning elements compared to other LMS available. Some of the support documentation is dated and needs updating.

Canvas is, by their own admission, a feature-poor software with lots of customizable and additional opportunities to expand it. That is true. You need to learn how to use it, play nice with it, and it will play nice with you and with many other integratable softwares. Adapt to its quirks and you will be happy with it.
1) Easy to use as a teacher. Once you get the schema of how the software works and accept its ways and limitations, then you can really use it to your advantage within that framework. 2) Integration with other softwares. Canvas integrates with many other LTI providers, but everyone is slightly different, so you need to be willing to pay the price to learn how to integrate things carefully. 3) Speedgrader is nice. I've seen better ones in other LMSs, but Canvas Spreedgrader is pretty good. 4) Training and support. You can find, if you search carefully, tons of training resources for Canvas.
1) It's easy to create things that clutter your course, system almost without knowing. 2) The assessment engine is quite limited. The new quiz engine is still too buggy to use and has been way overdue. 3) I hate that there is not an autosave feature, specially when building quizzes. More than once, I accidentally save the quiz without saving the individual question and loose a ton of work. 4) It's almost impossible to find your grades across multiple courses. You have to go to each course individually and click several places at that.

Generally experience is that it's an extraordinary program and I would prescribe any individual who might need to utilize it. It's most certainly simple and effective to utilize. Material has been a fundamental device in an internet learning instructive world. Instructure gives a committed Customer Success Manager who meets with us consistently, a strong case the executives framework, and a very supportive local area commitment stage. Material is refreshed routinely to remain new on new advances, highlights, and bug fixes. It's truly amusing to deal with this framework and have such a lot of purchase in from staff.
An exceptionally strong stage with a low edge for reception and convenience. Our teachers go wild about the instinct of the course developer elements and usefulness. It permits me to make and oversee course happy without any problem. I reuse my Canvas course, trading out understudies every semester and am ready to open courses as the semester advances and return tests on a case by case basis. I can...
There's restricted capacity to creator courses inside the LMS, and you for the most part need to depend on happy you make or import yourself. Moreover, it doesn't necessarily in every case play pleasantly with specific internet browsers or advertisement blockers. Assuming it's best gotten to under specific settings, that ought to be plainly imparted. The message was so little and the menus on the left half of the screen didn't stack well, so I would never utilize my telephone to get on Canvas without the application.

To reduce the distances between the participants and expand the possibilities and technological literacy of all.
The teaching of the 21st century requires a change in models and approach to learning. The change allows to reeplantear not only the contents of the subjects, moreover, the tools with which the teacher will have to share their experiences. It is very valuable to have a virtual space in which you can group: Class documents, videos, conferences, guides, questionnaires, tests, texts, messaging, links,...
The platforms have generalized their use in such a way that it is easy to find them in different stages and school courses, as well as in undergraduate and postgraduate university studies. In the same way, the age of the instructors and of the participants varies considerably. When users are not able to interact with each other easily and quickly, they lose interest, not only for the course, but also...

CANVAS is feature rich and expandable. It works great with non-IT courses.
Canvas is more intuitive than the open source options and less expensive than their larger competitors.
The price. CANVAS is an expensive LMS. It's typically un-affordable for a small independent school, but works great for a larger university.

Overall i think the app/ source is very good. and better than its competitor blackboard
Canvas is a very simple software for new users who aren't necessarily tech savvy. In addition its very easy to submit and record grades. the messages and notification between students and teachers is also relatively very simple.
The only two things i don't like about the software is one the cost, and secondly the inability to let student leave and continue a homework once started. As far as i know once a student has started an assignment they must submit once they open and can't save for later.

Our program has been using Canvas for about 10 years now and we are very happy with this software program. Specifically, the SpeedGrader functionality is superb. You can easily view and grade papers with your rubrics embedded into the grading system. The Collaborations feature is also quite robust and allows students to work on a project together via a group editing program (like Google Docs) and submit directly to Canvas. They've really done a good job partnering with other programs to allow communication between software (for example, students can easily submit their papers to Canvas with an embedded plagiarism checking program without having to use each software package independently).
One negative about the program is that, while you can assign students to groups to complete group projects, you still have to grade them all individually. There isn't (yet) a feature to assign identical grades to all students in the group. As with any program, there are extra features and functions that would be useful, but overall, we're very pleased. The price is steep compared to other course management software, but we find the time savings to be worth the additional cost.

As the Learning Management System Admin for Utah Valley University, managing the use of Canvas can be challenging, but in a really good way. Whenever I run into a problem, I can usually find the answer and deploy a solution very quickly. Instructure provides a dedicated Customer Success Manager who meets with us regularly, a robust case management system, and an extremely helpful community engagement platform. Canvas is updated regularly to stay fresh on new technologies, features, and bug fixes. It's really fun to manage this system and have so much buy-in from faculty. Canvas is also on the leading edge with 3rd party integrations, data analytics, and cross-platform compatibility.
Canvas is always available. Teachers and students rarely suffer from any down time, if ever. Even with the regular updates of the platform (every 3 weeks), there is no significant downtime. The integration with our Student Information System is really good, but will soon be even better.
I wish Instructure would value the opinions of an institution's Canvas Admin over instructors. Instructors tend to not stay up to speed with an institution's policies, new government regulation, or plain common sense in some cases. There are a few specific tools that would make an admin's life much easier... like this feature idea: https://community.canvaslms.com/ideas/7301

Overall, I am not too happy with it. But I've made it work.
For the expensive price tag, I find that Canvas is extremely confusing for students. As a teacher, my students have much preferred the free Google Classroom as it is much for intuitive. As a graduate student, I had to use Canvas as well, and it took me quite some time to get used to the setup, even having used it as a teacher before. It has a large learning curve and doesn't necessarily make sense to students.
There are so many tabs and places to click. It is not easy and streamlined, it is all over the place to find what you need.

I am very content with Canvas. I believe it is a very useful tool for both in person as well as remote learning classes. I do not know about the pricing since I access it through my university portal but if the prices are reasonable, institutions must opt for it.
I have been using Canvas for sometime now and I am glad I did that. I am reviewing Canvas use in a classroom set up. I take classes at my university and our class material is delivered through Canvas. Canvas is pretty structured so it is easy to categorize the study material. For example, we have niches for assignment, course material, Zoom videos . It becomes easy to access the requisite data. Also, there is provision for uploading research papers for Providing quicker access to papers for students. It has calendars to track the submission dates of assignments, commencement of a module etc. The information can be disbursed to many people at the same time. So there are several advantages of using Canvas.
I believe that Canvas does not have a video conferencing platform. A video conferencing platform would greatly enhance the applicability of Canvas. The instructor for my class delivers his lectures through Zoom and records it. He then posts the Zoom video on the Canvas page. The Canvas can also have a welcome video tab to guide and introduce all their features to interested user. They may have that but I never came across anything of that kind.

As an adjunct professor, I appreciate ability to plan, present and communicate without headaches. As I had to teach myself how to use this platform, it was important and appreciated that this was not a headache nor was it complicated. Canvas provides me a place to communicate with students, post assignments, send announcements and track grades. Creating quizzes is simple, as is organizing class materials and taking attendance. If needed, a seating chart can be created in minutes, complete with student photo. I use both the website and the mobile app as part of my educational endeavors.
CANVAS is easy to use, flexible, organized and intuitive. I taught myself how to use it--I didn't even have to use the help guide to do it. Simple integration with apps such as Zoom is appreciated in this time of COVID. Canvas allows me to present my on-line class with little effort and little concern. The mobile app is robust, which is appreciated when on-the-go.
I have not experienced any issues with Canvas. Honestly, it's simple and user-friendly. I am not privy to the cost of Canvas, so that might be a con.

This is the best LMS available for free.
It has all the features you need to manage an online learning environment. The roster setup is easy, the quiz grading system and features available to create assessments is excellent. Also I love the add ons from other common sites such as YouTube, Pearson, and many other platforms. The canvas community allows you to use other teacher content and integrate into your classroom, especially if you don't have knowledge or expertise in a particular subject area.
The biggest issue I have experienced with Canvas is deleting or removing individuals from your class roster. Also it would be nice of Canvas could include a paid subscription outside of the expensive large institution (such as universities) plans that only offer. The smaller enterprise subscriptions would be for teachers or other small business owners that need more space to upload video content, and other larger the documents. The 251MB limit canvas provides for each created course gets used fairly quickly.

Canvas is a great software for course management. I've personally used this for years as both a user and an instructor. The Learning Management System (LMS) is pretty easy to navigate and there's TONS of features to choose from. Customization is easily possible and the price is fair if you truly use this software. The mobile app is extremely useful and handy. There is still quite some room for improvement but I think the Canvas team is aware and working on it.
The mobile app is nice, but glitches randomly which can be annoying. I wish there was one Back button to click to get back to the previous page of navigation versus having to rely on the main menu. I also wish there was an autosave - I feel that's becoming more and more a standard practice. I've lost so much work due to not clicking individual saves. I also find the design slightly outdated and think that should be revamped.

UX/UI is amazing, ease of use, simplicity, minimalistic, mastery-paths, and free version for teachers.
Pricing has no flexibility, from my understanding, you have to purchase up to three years' worth. It is mostly geared towards schools and universities, missing the niche markets like nonprofits, educational organizations, and homeschool academies, (we are all three in one).

Canvas has allowed me to make a much deeper Spanish course online. Instead of just reading, clicking and taking a test, students are given a variety of topics to look through and use to learn the content. Each year I use it, it's even better for the following year. I make yearly tweaks and adjustments but having the course built for next year is a game changer! A lot of front loading needed but once you get rolling, Canvas is amazing! The kids who have used our previous learner tools are noticing the difference, commenting that they learn more and getting more individualized instruction relevant to the teacher. Game Changer!
It is completely customizeable by the teacher and incredibly user friendly for the teacher and the student. I have switched many of my Spanish courses to Canvas for the ease of use.
There are some features that are not available (or may need an upgraded price) that come standard in other graders. Cannot easily print a list for each student of missing work or mass grade assignments e.g. "Everyone who turned in this assignment, give 100%" etc. Minor details that are easily worked around

Canvas is a popular learning management system (LMS) widely used by educational institutions and businesses for delivering online courses and managing learning materials. Canvas is known for its user-friendly interface, customizable design, and mobile app that allows users to access course materials and communicate with others on the go. Overall, Canvas is a well-regarded LMS that many users have positively received.
Canvas is often praised for its user-friendly interface, customizable design, and wide range of features. Many users appreciate the platform's flexibility, including its ability to integrate multimedia content, enable collaborative learning, and provide analytics to track student progress.
Some common criticisms of Canvas include limited customization options for the user interface and course design, a steep learning curve for instructors and administrators, and occasional technical issues, such as slow load times or glitches with specific features. Some users have also reported difficulty integrating external tools or applications into the platform, and others have expressed concerns about the pricing structure, which can be costly for larger organizations.

As a multimedia learning management system (LMS), my user experience with Canvas compared to other LMS is blissful. It has proven to be a time-saver for time-poor post-grad students like myself.
The user interface is quite intuitive and, depending on how the course is structured, can be easy to navigate to. Canvas also offers cross-app integration depending on what device or operating system you are using. I love that I can simple share from Office on an iPad OS straight to the submission form for assignments on Canvas.
A value-added feature would be to incorporate a search engine within Canvas.

Canvas is honestly the best LMS on the market. I have worked at institutions that have used other major Learning Management Systems and nothing has compared to Canvas. Canvas is NEVER down for updates. Canvas is very user-friendly. Canvas is integrates with so many other LTIs that make our user-experience top notch. We were early adopters of Canvas in late 2013 and once we made that decision, our support/tickets have declined because Canvas just WORKS for our faculty and students.
It is hard to find something that I like least about Canvas other than the price. But you get what you pay for...we do 24/7 Canvas support for our faculty and students so that saves tons of time which saves us money in the long run.
