Pros and cons

We have been very happy with DonorSnap. It is a great value for the price paid, the support team is amazing (and we've rarely needed help!), and the report writing function is easy to use.
The customer support is excellent. Their response time and thoughtful answers were always very helpful.
Customer service is fantastic and if we cannot find answers in the videos they provide, we can reach out via email or telephone, and their responses are quick and helpful.
Our biggest problem is not with DonorSnap. Until recently, we have been an all volunteer (no employees) non-profit and finding a volunteer to maintain DS has been difficult.
I hate that the lists of fields are not in any logical order. Fields are very difficult to find and searching for the field I want wastes time.
It is slow and several of the buttons make no sense. It is hard to create a new contact when you are in a screen searching for a contact that does not come up.

Happy Client

Reviewed 3 years ago

I would describe my overall experience with DonorSnap as very positive. We are able to do many gift processing functions (recording donations, sending thank you letters) quickly and easily. I am building more complete donor profiles with the tools. We are now able to run reports and set up mailing and prospect lists consistently. The e-commerce feature and the responsive forms allow us to set up online ticket purchasing, registrations, and donations. This has been a critical tool for us.

Pros

We are a small nonprofit in a rural community in Oregon. DonorSnap is our first donor database system after years of Excel spreadsheets. I am so happy with how I can use it to record donor history, build contact profiles, run reports, pull lists and keep track of solicitations, conduct mass email campaigns, build responsive forms for online giving, and add notes. I don't feel we have utilized all...

Cons

I haven't found anything I don't like about DonorSnap. There are some 'canned' reports that make it easy to use DonorSnap but I like to make custom reports too. I still need help with the report writing feature in the DataMiner Platinum since I am still learning. I'd like to master it better but know the team is there to help me get it right. Also, when we use the responsive forms sometimes DonorSnap doesn't recognize the patron as already having a record in the system and duplicates have occurred. I'm learning how to match and set up the forms to allow for smoother integration when we post the online gift or purchase. There is a tool to merge duplicate records so we have found that helpful. This is not a software problem but more of a user inexperience problem.

Great Support!

Reviewed 2 years ago

Donorsnap has worked well for our organization. The team at Donorsnap goes above and beyond to make sure we are successful!

Pros

The software is easy to use and pretty comprehensive in all its features. If we ever have a question or need help with a feature, support responds very quickly! We appreciate having access to the app, we can access contact information from anywhere.

Cons

There is nothing we do not like about Donorsnap.

DonorSnap (is not)

Reviewed 3 years ago

There are may other functions that would be helpful in running a non-profit, like ticketing, running credit cards (for online, by phone and in-person--all in one place), marketing and promoting events, running auctions, rooms layouts, etc.

Pros

It's easy to add new contacts and add donations. It was also pretty easy to run reports, for my board.

Cons

Data Miner Platinum. I think one should be able to find the same data from the Contacts screen, so you can see results immediately for what you're asking for, not have to input all the parameters, and just hope that the output is what you're looking for. Things that should be fairly simple, like printing mailing labels, is also overly complicated. It should be as easy as what you might do from Quickbooks, or similar

Vendor response

Hi Jill, Thanks for our review! We are sorry to hear you are frustrated with DataMiner platinum. We have designed it to offer users the ability to sift through the data based on their unique needs. The great thing about DataMinter Platinum is once you build a report you are happy with, the system saves it and will continuously update it for you. If you have specific concerns with a query our support...

DonorSnap used for non-profits

Pros

DonorSnap has an excellent library of articles and video tutorials. Their support team is extremely knowledgeable!

Cons

The flexibility & options of this program can seem overwhelming. In the beginning, as a novice, I thought I would be sunk... but the DonorSnap team is quick to reply with tips and solutions to inquiries.

Use for a small but very busy neighborhood senior services organization

Reviewed 2 years ago

We've used the software for about three years now, and we've found that DonorSnap's focus is on functionality, which we appreciate. Though they gave it a makeover fairly recently, it wasn't one of those software makeovers that just makes it look more modern while removing functionality (my personal pet peeve). They add new features pretty regularly and provide clear and easily accessed training for them. The pricing structure is frozen in place, so no worries about it suddenly blowing up your small organization's budget.

Pros

Our favorite features are responsive forms and mass email campaigns. DonorSnap seems hard to learn, but you get the hang of it pretty quickly. It's a great balance of having a basic ready-to-go template in place with a lot of ways to customize it for your org's needs. The support team is pretty responsive over email when you need them. We also pay less than half of what we used to pay for a different CRM that didn't give us nearly as many features. The fact that DS is web-based came in handy during the Covid pivot to work-from-home.

Cons

There are a number of minor software bugs (that have fairly easy workarounds once you remember that they're there).

Dedicated to DonorSnap

Reviewed 2 years ago

Love it, very happy with it.

Pros

There are so many things about DonorSnap to applaud. I love how we are able to keep track of every donation and I love all of the fund development analysis reports that are available. The customizable reports has been essential for me to compile all kinds of data, from volunteer hours to fundraising data and even our newsletter list.

Cons

The only issue I have sometimes is with the acknowledgement letters. I format multiple letters for this system, and for some reason sometimes getting the formatting right is a struggle because I will end up with a logo on the 2nd page or a page gets cut off. I have always been able to mess with the word document and fix it, but sometimes I don't know exactly why it is doing what it does and just have to try different things.

Donor Management and so much more

Reviewed 2 years ago

We are still only accessing a fraction of the options with DonorSnap but the amount of time we have saved by using the system on completing donor management and business tasks is already very high. The responsive forms have also allowed us to add additional revenue streams by offering a simplified way of collecting a variety of data as well as payments.

Pros

We have a some unique events and revenue streams and DonorSnap has allowed me to customize whatever was needed to get the data we needed. Excellent customer service! They respond quickly and are always helpful in brainstorming as well when I am trying to tweak something to fit our specific needs. Many DonorSnap features have either simplified tasks I was already doing or led me to new ideas that were very helpful. The tutorials are excellent and I use those often when training new staff. Another big Pro is the ability to have separate users with different permissions if needed. The excel import function is another great feature.

Cons

Split donations and acknowledgement letters sometimes require work arounds but overall has not been a significant issue. Many settings such as screen layouts you can format and keep, would be nice if you could have a default on lines per page you could view instead of having to click to change that.

Complex Needs Met

Reviewed 3 years ago

Spreadsheets are gone! Before utilizing DonorSnap we had many places things were kept. We had numerous methods for tracking the same data and it was difficult to get thank you letters to donors and fundraising addresses updated and tracked. We needed what DonorSnap has to offer. We are still learning of new ways to utilize the tools it has and with its collaborative relationships for a credit card processor (goEmerchant), with Constant Contact, and Intuit, then the ability to create forms to integrate with your website. We are now re-developing our website and working to fully utilize the abilities of DS in our non-profit.

Pros

I love that I have the ability to customize the screens and that I can build forms to meet our needs.

Cons

The needs of a non-profit with donations and memberships are complex and had been managed poorly before this software was in use. The learning curve is long and complex and it is because the functions are complex as is needed with the type of needs we have.

Donor Snap is the Aldi of CRM's--Everything you need without the facade

Reviewed 2 years ago

Overall awesome, I brag about it often with others in the field and I enjoy working within the software to create new forms, queries, reports, etc.

Pros

DonorSnap will allow you to do virtually anything. No extra fees or bundle packages, they just give you access to everything for considerably less money than some of the competitors we were looking at originally. They are simple and everything is fully customizable, especially the online forms that can be embedded into our website to collect contact data and payment information from our supporters. We run all of our trip payments, forms, signed waivers, and subscriptions through DonorSnap. We'll never go anywhere else, especially for $40/month, compared to $200+/month from other big software companies.

Cons

DonorSnap takes a little getting used to. It's very basic, no fun graphics or "wow" work here--just functional CRM software. The tech help is via email only, so you cannot get an immediate answer, but at the same time, this is how they keep their overhead low and pass the savings onto the clients. If you are unwilling to watch some tutorials on form set-up then this is not for you; it will take some practice and getting used to as you learn the software.

Best Option for Small Non-Profits

Reviewed a year ago

DonorSnap helps us keep track of our donations, donor information and donation campaigns. We like that DonoSnap is continually adding functionality to the platform and the training videos are great for bringing new employees up to speed.

Pros

Simplicity, ease of use and affordability.

Cons

We are currently starting to use the email campaign integration but believe the functionality needs more work. We also tried the goEmerchant integration but that did not work for us. Suggestion is to look at Stripe integration.

Best Customer Service

Reviewed 3 years ago

I love DonorSnap - from the functionality, to the simple/customizable dashboard appearance, to the top notch support team and weekly trainings!

Pros

The software is self explanatory and easy to navigate day to day function. They customer service blows any other company out of the water! They are quick, responsive, and reliable. Having an issue? The team will make you a custom step by step video in your individual database. I thought I would need phone support but their team is SO quick and thorough via email that I feel more supported by email than I ever did with a previous database company by phone. Free weekly training are the icing on the cake for a great database system.

Cons

The process to access reports/certain information can be very time consuming until you are 100% comfortable with it. There are a LOT of steps to run a simple report. DonorSnap is a bit ore DIY than I am comfortable with, ex. building my own forms. DataMinorPlatinum still scares me after 8 months of playing with it.

Easy to use

Reviewed 6 months ago

In my two years with this organization I've moved our memberships and donations from another platform to Donor Snap because its so much easier to use and the customer service is so much better.

Pros

It is very easy to use on the back end. Customizing reports, fields, user screens, and online forms is all very intuitive. Importing and exporting information is done with a few clicks. When there has been something more complex that haven't been able to figure out the customer service is always quick with a response. The customer facing side is also a much simpler interface than we've experienced with other systems.

Cons

Since we use this for our memberships it would be nice if there was a way for members to log in and see their membership level and expiration date. While you can use the online forms to have people sign up for events, such as a fundraiser or gala, it would be nice to use it for more complex programs such as summer camps or community programs where there are multiple dates to chose from, various forms that need to be read and confirmed, lots of information that needs to be provided that wouldn't be part of a DS contact (a kids medical info for summer camp). This would make it easier for us to see how our members and donors are interacting with us without having to collect that data from our registration system then manually flag them in Donor Snap.

Easy, intuitive, superb tutorials and help provided

Reviewed 2 years ago

We have used DonorSnap for about a decade. Switching over was quick, easy, and fun. Immediately, you can plan what new fields you are going to add and edit. Improvements in the overall system are regularly made, with no extra costs. There are no fees on top of your monthly payment. It has saved tens of thousands of dollars in payroll costs, because no one has to build or maintain the overall database...

Pros

Extraordinarily easy to learn and use, even for lower skilled individuals. Provides reports appropriate to nonprofits, and easy to create and edit your own reports. Powerful search and report tools. Saves time because you are hitting the ground running, with pre-built reports and functionality, all you have to do is edit and add items to suit your own needs. Super intuitive, company is super quick to respond, if you need help.

Cons

There are no negatives to using DonorSnap.

A great donor management software system at a great price

Reviewed 10 months ago

Overall, it's been a positive experience. Having been trained on other more complex systems, I do find it hard sometimes to figure out the "donor snap way". But the support team are there to answer my questions and help me figure it out. I keep learning about new things I can do with this system so I'm sure that a big part of what I haven't been able to do just yet with the system is because I just haven't taken the time to do the training needed to know how best to use it. But it does what I need it to do and it's web-based as well so I can access it anywhere anytime.

Pros

DonorSnap was the perfect solution for our small nonprofit. It helps us track our donations, stay connected to our donors, see what is happening in our organization in terms of what and when donors are connecting with us. It does all we really need it to do at a reasonable price that our small nonprofit can afford. While it hasn't been an entirely intuitive system for us to use, Donor Snap has EXCELLENT customer support with videos and training tools and real people that you can ask questions of. For us, it's been the perfect solution.

Cons

Donor Snap doesn't seem to be able to do all of the reports in the way I would like them to be done- but that also could just be that I haven't done all the training I need to in order to best know how to use this product. Whenever I have needed something, a donor support specialist has been there to try to help me learn how to do it myself or sometimes, just doing it for me when I am completely stumped. The Support Team is what has kept us here for several years. It does what we need it to do and help is always available.

A fairly simple but very good data base management system

Reviewed 2 years ago

We are primarily a nonprofit organization and using DoorSnap to build a database for fundraising. As donations are received, thank-you notes are sent or emailed to acknowledge the donation, now a simple process once as the donation type is tagged when entered and can be matched to a type of stored letter. These can be created and sent by batch rather than individually for mailing or emailing. We also use DonorSnap to double check the correct postings in QuickBooks (in both systems!) The very best thing I personally like about DonorSnap is the quick, thorough and patient responses that I have always received when I call for Support!

Pros

The Report Writer is a great feature that can be used to analyze/report out the data in multiple ways since a report can be created from any of the many available fields within the data base. Adding contacts is also a simple process as is making changes or merging duplicates. The acknowledgment system for donations and especially the new custom feature for Contributions is a huge time saver with a professional, personalized appearance.

Cons

It would be helpful if the search functions did not require exact spellings but would suggest all that come close. There are occasional glitches in the search function. There are many terms and options that I still do not fully understand unless one of them happens to cause me an issue and I need to call Support for help. A dictionary of every term/option including where used and the results of using/not using would be a great help and likely would likely expose more useful features that I am not now aware of. I would love to be able to "data-fix" specific fields within the contacts without having to create a spreadsheet and uploading.

Full-featured donor management system with excellent support

Reviewed 2 years ago

The staff at DonorSnap are friendly and quickly respond to requests for support. They were also incredibly helpful when we transferred our donor database from another platform, providing useful advice on best practices. Their Help website provides detailed information and videos so we can continue to learn how to use different aspects of the program.

Pros

DonorSnap is excellent at managing and stewarding donors and accepting donations. We've been able to customize DonorSnap to meet our organization's needs. We like being able to create different online donation forms to meet fundraising needs for different projects. The price is very reasonable for the quality and features found in DonorSnap and for the support they provide.

Cons

The built-in email system lacks design features and isn't setup to use for regular communicate with donors. They have a plug-in for Constant Contact, which is helpful. But it would be nice to have all donor communications reside within DonorSnap.

Excellent, but has a learning curve

Reviewed 2 years ago

DonorSnap is a great software, and I recommend it for keeping track of donors, acknowledgements, and even mailing lists. I love how customizable everything is (including the payout for my screen, and the apps I have ready to go!) I recommend the software, just make sure you have ample time to train on it before you have to "go live". It can take a little bit. Once you know what you need, though, you can almost always set up your filters, create your templates, upload letters and more, so it's all there when you're ready, every time you need it!

Pros

The webinars are absolutely vital to getting everything out of this software, because DonorSnap does so very many things. I love it for pulling reports, and I appreciate being able to create very detailed, very specific reports. It also helps for mailings, event planning, and much more-- because I can click a few buttons and create a report letting me know which supporters would be most likely to enjoy the event, appreciate the Sponsorship Update, or who asked us to only send them our yearly newsletters. Definitely worth the cost and the flexibility is top-notch.

Cons

The learning curve is a little steep. The hardest part of learning how to use DonorSnap is figuring out what you *want* to do with it. I always recommend everyone take the webinars and watch the vids. It can be hard if you need to train a new user very quickly, and can be frustrating as you're learning to use the software. Once you know, you know-- but getting there can feel like an ordeal.

DonorSnap is very powerful and supported software

Reviewed 2 years ago

I have really enjoyed learning DonorSnap. The support is stellar. The product is versatile and so powerful. I got rid of a duplicate software because DonorSnap was an overall better product that did more.

Pros

DonorSnap is very powerful and flexible software. You can search for almost anything in most fields. You can set up any custom query you can think of. It does so many things well, and they are always adding features and improving things. Additionally, it is very well supported. If you don't know how to do something: 1) there's a contextual help link right to the help database OR 2) you can check out the recorded webinars for how to do a thing OR 3) there are responsive and supportive helpdesk staff who respond to questions very quickly.

Cons

I think that the webforms would benefit from conditional logic, as sometimes we have to make several webforms instead of just one. There are also several places where information needs to be changed when you change certain things. That can be frustrating and confusing, but it is part of making it the most powerful and customizable it can be. There is so much to learn that you feel you will never know it all, but there is plenty of help when you run into this!

Vendor response

Perfect DB for Small Non-profits

Reviewed 3 years ago

Our previous system had zero flexibility for customizing or changing to grow with us. Everything was a cost to edit when I knew I could execute the edit if administration access were provided. Also, the customer support simply wasn't available. It had taken over a month for someone to reply with a solution with our previous DB. DS helps our productivity and allows us to become intimate with the system, changing how and when we need.

Pros

Many features are impactful for our organization and help us advance our productivity. The mass upload feature is time saving, the ability to create and edit thank you letters is convenient, the multitude of canned reports at an executive level or being able to customize and create one with more granular detail is a key function we specifically sought out in our research of databases. The dashboard...

Cons

The tickler function could use more fields to allow for more detail, bit I'm grabbing for straws trying to find something that could use improvement.

CSPCA Donor Snap Review

Reviewed 2 years ago

We are very happy with the software. It acts as both donor management & fundraising and as our address book. I have recommended it to several other animal shelters in the area. For our needs it is a simple, reliable and moderately priced tool to help us run our shelter.

Pros

Ease of use. It was very easy to learn and the transfer of info from our old program to this was great.

Cons

There are some features that I wish were better. When I am putting in a memorial donation and need to add a person's name...I wish I could do it on the fly rather than having to close out the donation file and go to maintenance and enter it there. I have yet to figure out how to mail merge and print right on envelopes. I know I can do labels but would like to print directly on envelopes.

Donor Snap Review January 2021

Reviewed 3 years ago

I have no choice but to use it because my employer bought it. I would not have chosen it.

Pros

I really have little good to say about this product. I apologize, but it is not user friendly. Thanks.

Cons

It is slow and several of the buttons make no sense. It is hard to create a new contact when you are in a screen searching for a contact that does not come up. You have to go back to community and then select new contact. It is slow. I don't think that is my computer because I run other programs that are much faster. It is not intuitive. The type face is oldfashioned and small. Just need a rebrand all the way around. Do you check your competition and see what they are doing? It might be a good idea.

Vendor response

Hi Sue, Thank you for taking the time to leave a review. We appreciate your recommendations as we are constantly working to improve our product. In case you didn't know, we offer all of the same things as our competitors and have some unique updates like text messaging, Automated Task Manager, and a free yearly NCOA cleanup. A great product, but not for me

Reviewed 3 years ago

It's been difficult to learn all of the features of DonorSnap without an understanding of how & why it was set up the way that it was. I suppose that is a challenge for most CRMs when one group of people set it up and new people come in where no training from the previous people is really provided. My overall experience may be different if I had been there in the beginning.

Pros

I like that you can automatically have it assign letters to different types of donations and that you can see it all at the Dashboard so you don't forget to send them. It is also very convenient to be able to set up Mass Entry options when you have a group of donations that are tied to the same event.

Cons

I do not like that you are unable to sort the entire database without creating a report. I also am not a fan of the fact that you would have to create a report to pull a list of contacts to change one thing about them all, export to excel, make the change, then import back into DonorSnap. It would be much more effective to be able to sort by look-up items, use a drop down with an option that says change to, and then have it ask, change all records in look-up? So you can just hit yes. I also do not like that you cannot see all the notes, donations, and contact information on one screen. You have to click on tabs and I actually find it quite cumbersome to have to click a tab to see donations, another for notes, another for interactions, etc.

It does what we need it too

Reviewed 3 years ago

When we first started using donorsnap, I was very happy with the simplicity of it but now I think it has gotten a lot more complicated and I think charging extra for real customer service is just a poor business model.

Pros

It captures donor details and helps us organize and filter donors as we need to gather information or create mailing lists.

Cons

I know it is a database which is not inherently user friendly but it definitely doesn't try to be easy to understand in any way. There are a lot of ways to customize fields but you can't delete most of them, even though we don't want them so it adds a lot of extra information spaces in our downloaded worksheets that we have to sort and delete every single time. When I had an issue setting up goemerchant...

You can't go wrong with DonorSnap

Reviewed 2 years ago

DonorSnap has been great. The staff was amazing when we converted our data from excel spreadsheets. They make the process so easy! I was amazed! I had lots of people warning me that transferring to donor management software was going to be stressful. I think we got through the whole process in a couple of weeks and it all went very smoothly. The turnaround time for help requests is fantastic. I have never waited more than a few hours for a response.

Pros

I love the ease of use! We went from using an excel spreadsheet to DonorSnap. It has enabled us to create a more robust picture of our supporters and to have a better understanding of donor trends from year to year. In addition, for a limited staff, the streamlined acknowledgement process has been a game-changer. Especially at year end, when we are trying to respond to donations as quickly as possible.

Cons

There are only 2 drawbacks to the software. The first is really an a function of the way that our organization's fiscal year is set up and the way that we do our work! I would like a way to be able to create Fundholder acknowledgement letters through the sytem (letters notifying them that a gift has been received) there is a simple work around for this- but it just requires a few extra steps.

Non-Profit Donor Management Software that Continues to Add Features

Reviewed 2 years ago

We use DonorSnap to manage information for our constituents including donations, contact information, preferences etc. This allows us to track the success of our appeals, send targeted mailings, keep track of volunteers, etc.

Pros

The ability to enter donations, track pledges, and report on the funds raised for each campaign and/or appeal are critical. The dashboard is also nice and easy to customize. Recently added is the ability to import online donations directly into the software. There are many fields you can customize and the new custom contribution statements are great. There is the ability to set up emails from the system. We have not used this yet but it seems to be a great new function.

Cons

I find the "Data Miner Platinum" reporting function the most confusing part of the software. Some items are not very intuitive to me. I previously worked with another donor management program so maybe this is part of the problem as it worked quite a bit differently. Although I can do many reports on my own, I definately get stuck every now and then. Fortunately I can usually get a fairly quick email response from DonorSnap support regarding the problem.
