Pros and cons

We have been very happy with DonorSnap. It is a great value for the price paid, the support team is amazing (and we've rarely needed help!), and the report writing function is easy to use.
The customer support is excellent. Their response time and thoughtful answers were always very helpful.
Customer service is fantastic and if we cannot find answers in the videos they provide, we can reach out via email or telephone, and their responses are quick and helpful.
Our biggest problem is not with DonorSnap. Until recently, we have been an all volunteer (no employees) non-profit and finding a volunteer to maintain DS has been difficult.
I hate that the lists of fields are not in any logical order. Fields are very difficult to find and searching for the field I want wastes time.
It is slow and several of the buttons make no sense. It is hard to create a new contact when you are in a screen searching for a contact that does not come up.

Easy to use

Reviewed a year ago

In my two years with this organization I've moved our memberships and donations from another platform to Donor Snap because its so much easier to use and the customer service is so much better.

Pros

It is very easy to use on the back end. Customizing reports, fields, user screens, and online forms is all very intuitive. Importing and exporting information is done with a few clicks. When there has been something more complex that haven't been able to figure out the customer service is always quick with a response. The customer facing side is also a much simpler interface than we've experienced with other systems.

Cons

Since we use this for our memberships it would be nice if there was a way for members to log in and see their membership level and expiration date. While you can use the online forms to have people sign up for events, such as a fundraiser or gala, it would be nice to use it for more complex programs such as summer camps or community programs where there are multiple dates to chose from, various forms that need to be read and confirmed, lots of information that needs to be provided that wouldn't be part of a DS contact (a kids medical info for summer camp). This would make it easier for us to see how our members and donors are interacting with us without having to collect that data from our registration system then manually flag them in Donor Snap.

Customizable Software; Personalized Support

Reviewed 2 years ago

DonorSnap provides great online webinars which are interactive or can be watched at a later date. I receive all of the support I need, almost always within 24 hours or even faster. Overall, this database functions the way I want it to and is completely customizable.

Pros

DonorSnap offers a unique and comprehensive approach to a donor database which allows the user to glean data from the database themselves or using tools they have provided. I like how they give the user options and not constraints. Moving our data from another platform was easy and secure as DonorSnap worked with us individually and provided top-notch technical support. As we have used this product for over 5 years, their customer support continues to be un-paralleled. If I contact them with an idea, they are quick to try to make it happen for us.

Cons

I love having the ability to download the data and use excel for my own analysis. DonorSnap allows me to do this and in addition to this, DonorSnap also provides reporting, sorting, and great tools for analysis. Before this, I used software which didn't allow these options. I can't think of anything I don't like about DonorSnap.

Great Solution for the Small Non Profit

Reviewed 2 years ago

Excellent!!

Pros

DonorSnap easily provides all our processing and information needs. Users can easily enter pledges and donations. Donor acknowledgements, pledge reminders, and year end statements are all very easy to generate. All our user requests for reports and information can be accommodated by the report writer. We've been able to extensively modify the fields and screens to accommodate our changing data capture requirements.

Cons

Real time tracking of our semi annual campaign takes several steps to generate a report, open the Excel sheet and copy into our campaign dashboard (analyzed in pivot tables). Having an ODBC connection would eliminate these steps and provide real time updates to the campaign manager.

Easy to use!

Reviewed 2 years ago

We've been able to save money on the cost of raising money, allowing us to put more funds towards other programs and services.

Pros

DonorSnaps ease of use and the ability to enter customized fields is fantastic! It's so user friendly! Even with limited fundraising experience it's understandable.

Cons

Creating reports is a little tricky, but I suspect this is due to lack of practice.

Best Option for Small Non-Profits

Reviewed 2 years ago

DonorSnap helps us keep track of our donations, donor information and donation campaigns. We like that DonoSnap is continually adding functionality to the platform and the training videos are great for bringing new employees up to speed.

Pros

Simplicity, ease of use and affordability.

Cons

We are currently starting to use the email campaign integration but believe the functionality needs more work. We also tried the goEmerchant integration but that did not work for us. Suggestion is to look at Stripe integration.

DonorSnap Suits Our Small Nonprofit Very Well

Reviewed 2 years ago

Overall, I would strongly recommend this program to smaller nonprofits. And it might work for bigger ones too. I'm just not sure. For reference, I'm the sole staff of this organization, Cascade Medical Foundation, and we have an annual budget somewhere between $100,000 and $200,000 except last year when we received grants that pushed us to about $320,000.

Pros

I've used DonorSnap for over 3 years, since I started at this Foundation job. I'm the only user, and it meets 99% of my needs. I don't know what it would be like for multiple staff users, but it seems like it would be fine. I like the level of detailed info I can collect on each donor/sponsor, and there are more interaction tabs that I don't even use. I can enter donation data quickly, do mass entry...

Cons

I have not integrated DS with QuickBooks because I'm still nervous about the challenges that will crop up during integration - because of the aligning codes and such so that all info flows the way I expect it to in QBs. So, right now I enter donations twice, which does take longer, but makes me feel very confident about the #s, and I really use DS and QBs differently. I feel like integration would/could cause problems with certain things, like restricted donations, in-kind and automatic monthly donations.

Donor Snap review

Reviewed 2 years ago

I find entering donations into the system is with ease and very simple to run fundraising reports (outside of some Data Miner reports) or find information on donor.

Pros

I like the ease to enter a new donor or to record an existing donor's contribution. I love the merge letter feature as I often have many acknowledgment letters to send after inputting many donations. To run a report on various areas of a fundraiser helps me to narrow it down or be as broad as I want for the report. When we integrated to program many years ago, it went very well. The Customer Support is very helpful but at times it would be easier to communicate on phone rather than email.

Cons

I find the Data Miner reports difficult to set up to run with particular criteria. The support received has been helpful, but there are some reports that the customer support realizes don't report correctly and then have to create another report to compare. An example is if looking for a donor based on a mail code or attribute, but donor hasn't given monetarily, then the donor didn't show up on the report. The other area is when doing merge letters, the date is automatically entered, but there are times I want to post-date the letter. I can enter the new date, but once letter is completed to print, it defaults back to the current date.

DonorSnap is so valuable to our non-profit!

Reviewed 2 years ago

I have been very happy with DonorSnap and their customer service is the best! They are very responsive to customer requests and questions!!

Pros

DonorSnap is such a comprehensive donor management program. I like the many features it has for donor and donation tracking, the information it provides to our organization's development, and the ability it has to provide receipting and donor communication. There are so many features and possibilities that I feel I have only touched on all it can do! I especially like the new duplicate donation feature!

Cons

I would like DonorSnap to be able to integrate with more payment programs such as STRIPE, PayPal, etc. As a non-profit, we have to keep our costs as low as possible so being able to use the payment processing program we choose is important. I would love to be able to import donations directly to DonorSnap with the payment processing company we use.

CSPCA Donor Snap Review

Reviewed 2 years ago

We are very happy with the software. It acts as both donor management & fundraising and as our address book. I have recommended it to several other animal shelters in the area. For our needs it is a simple, reliable and moderately priced tool to help us run our shelter.

Pros

Ease of use. It was very easy to learn and the transfer of info from our old program to this was great.

Cons

There are some features that I wish were better. When I am putting in a memorial donation and need to add a person's name...I wish I could do it on the fly rather than having to close out the donation file and go to maintenance and enter it there. I have yet to figure out how to mail merge and print right on envelopes. I know I can do labels but would like to print directly on envelopes.

Full-featured donor management system with excellent support

Reviewed 2 years ago

The staff at DonorSnap are friendly and quickly respond to requests for support. They were also incredibly helpful when we transferred our donor database from another platform, providing useful advice on best practices. Their Help website provides detailed information and videos so we can continue to learn how to use different aspects of the program.

Pros

DonorSnap is excellent at managing and stewarding donors and accepting donations. We've been able to customize DonorSnap to meet our organization's needs. We like being able to create different online donation forms to meet fundraising needs for different projects. The price is very reasonable for the quality and features found in DonorSnap and for the support they provide.

Cons

The built-in email system lacks design features and isn't setup to use for regular communicate with donors. They have a plug-in for Constant Contact, which is helpful. But it would be nice to have all donor communications reside within DonorSnap.

Non-Profit Donor Management Software that Continues to Add Features

Reviewed 2 years ago

We use DonorSnap to manage information for our constituents including donations, contact information, preferences etc. This allows us to track the success of our appeals, send targeted mailings, keep track of volunteers, etc.

Pros

The ability to enter donations, track pledges, and report on the funds raised for each campaign and/or appeal are critical. The dashboard is also nice and easy to customize. Recently added is the ability to import online donations directly into the software. There are many fields you can customize and the new custom contribution statements are great. There is the ability to set up emails from the system. We have not used this yet but it seems to be a great new function.

Cons

I find the "Data Miner Platinum" reporting function the most confusing part of the software. Some items are not very intuitive to me. I previously worked with another donor management program so maybe this is part of the problem as it worked quite a bit differently. Although I can do many reports on my own, I definately get stuck every now and then. Fortunately I can usually get a fairly quick email response from DonorSnap support regarding the problem.

DonorSnap is very powerful and supported software

Reviewed 3 years ago

I have really enjoyed learning DonorSnap. The support is stellar. The product is versatile and so powerful. I got rid of a duplicate software because DonorSnap was an overall better product that did more.

Pros

DonorSnap is very powerful and flexible software. You can search for almost anything in most fields. You can set up any custom query you can think of. It does so many things well, and they are always adding features and improving things. Additionally, it is very well supported. If you don't know how to do something: 1) there's a contextual help link right to the help database OR 2) you can check out the recorded webinars for how to do a thing OR 3) there are responsive and supportive helpdesk staff who respond to questions very quickly.

Cons

I think that the webforms would benefit from conditional logic, as sometimes we have to make several webforms instead of just one. There are also several places where information needs to be changed when you change certain things. That can be frustrating and confusing, but it is part of making it the most powerful and customizable it can be. There is so much to learn that you feel you will never know it all, but there is plenty of help when you run into this!

Vendor response

DonorSnap: A Great Product, A Great Price, and A Great Customer Service Team

Reviewed 3 years ago

We love DonorSnap! It's user-friendly and easy to train new team members while still providing a level of detail and deeper analysis needed by our executive staff members. DonorSnap meets all of our needs while still being affordable which is a critical necessity for an organization of our size.

Pros

DonorSnap has all of the reporting, tracking, and acknowledgement capabilities that an organization of our size needs. This software is a great return on investment. Setup was easy and customer service is always responsive to any questions we have.

Cons

We would love to see more reporting capabilities to compare campaign success and donor giving across multiple time periods. It would also be great if the email acknowledgments were automatically added as notes and the attachments were added as documents under the individual donor files.

Vendor response

We're grateful to have you as a customer, Rebecca! Have you checked out the Periodic Comparison Report and the Donation Field Comparison Report? You'll find them under the Reports > Fund Development Analysis category and those will help you compare giving across multiple time periods or campaigns. If you have any questions about it, please reach out to support@donornsap.com and we'll be happy to help!

Long time, satisfied user

Reviewed 3 years ago

We have been have been very satisfied with DonorSnap as a contact management tool and intend to continue using it for the foreseeable future.

Pros

For reasonable pricing, it was easy to tailor to our small non-profit organization and has enabled us to seamlessly expand our use of the product as our organization has grown.

Cons

For an all-volunteer organization with most volunteers not being computer/software literate, it has been challenging at times. However, this has largely been overcome by DonorSnap's responsive technical assistance team.

DonorSnap is an invaluable software with an affordable price tag.

Reviewed 3 years ago

I have been using DonorSnap for five years. The software was easy to learn. Having all our donor demographic and donation history in one place is great and can be accessed from anywhere. We are able to process thank you letters directly through DonorSnap. The software has multiple reports available and the capability to create your own reports if needed. There are some features of DonorSnap such as the integration with Constant Contact and Quickbooks that we have yet to utilize.

Pros

DonorSnap is a very user-friendly software, easy to use and master. There are weekly online trainings offered for those who need a little help or refresher.

We use Donorsnap everyday

Reviewed 4 years ago

Overall we depend on Donorsnap entirely to run our organization. We have no issues with data integrity or exporting to Constant Contact. We do not manage a complicated set of donors. I've heard that the reason to upgrade to a different product is the ability to parse sets of donors by capability.

Pros

Donorsnap is all in the cloud, training is straightforward and our team can remember how to use it.

Cons

Integration with Quickbooks has been improved over time. Now it's less complicated. We depend on that and we pay someone to do it. it needs to be done frequently by someone, not a random volunteer. but that's ok. It works.

DonorSnap (is not)

Reviewed 4 years ago

There are may other functions that would be helpful in running a non-profit, like ticketing, running credit cards (for online, by phone and in-person--all in one place), marketing and promoting events, running auctions, rooms layouts, etc.

Pros

It's easy to add new contacts and add donations. It was also pretty easy to run reports, for my board.

Cons

Data Miner Platinum. I think one should be able to find the same data from the Contacts screen, so you can see results immediately for what you're asking for, not have to input all the parameters, and just hope that the output is what you're looking for. Things that should be fairly simple, like printing mailing labels, is also overly complicated. It should be as easy as what you might do from Quickbooks, or similar

Vendor response

Hi Jill, Thanks for our review! We are sorry to hear you are frustrated with DataMiner platinum. We have designed it to offer users the ability to sift through the data based on their unique needs. The great thing about DataMinter Platinum is once you build a report you are happy with, the system saves it and will continuously update it for you. Satisfied

Reviewed 4 years ago

I've been very satisfied with DonorSnap. We had spreadsheets prior to installing DonorSnap. There has been somewhat of a learning curve, but once you master what you want to get out of the system, it works.

Pros

In my opinion, DonorSnap is a robust product that provides excellent functionality. For our small organization it meets all our needs. This system will do much more than I'm capable or implementing or have the time to build and implement. There's more engine under the hood than most people will ever really need. But that to me is the beauty of it. It's there if you want or need it. It's solid. It works. Support is Excellent. Very responsive. They know the system. I'm very impressed with their support. They also have a wide range of training videos and live webinars to help you.

Cons

Comparing DonorSnap to other similar products, it is not flashy. If you're looking for flash, DonorSnap may not be what you want. If you like lots of colorful graphs, DonorSnap probably isn't for you. If you want a product that, at least for us, provides a broad array of options to track donor information and you don't care about a fancy front end, then DonorSnap may be what you're looking for.

Best Customer Service

Reviewed 4 years ago

I love DonorSnap - from the functionality, to the simple/customizable dashboard appearance, to the top notch support team and weekly trainings!

Pros

The software is self explanatory and easy to navigate day to day function. They customer service blows any other company out of the water! They are quick, responsive, and reliable. Having an issue? The team will make you a custom step by step video in your individual database. I thought I would need phone support but their team is SO quick and thorough via email that I feel more supported by email than I ever did with a previous database company by phone. Free weekly training are the icing on the cake for a great database system.

Cons

The process to access reports/certain information can be very time consuming until you are 100% comfortable with it. There are a LOT of steps to run a simple report. DonorSnap is a bit ore DIY than I am comfortable with, ex. building my own forms. DataMinorPlatinum still scares me after 8 months of playing with it.

Complex Needs Met

Reviewed 4 years ago

Spreadsheets are gone! Before utilizing DonorSnap we had many places things were kept. We had numerous methods for tracking the same data and it was difficult to get thank you letters to donors and fundraising addresses updated and tracked. We needed what DonorSnap has to offer. We are still learning of new ways to utilize the tools it has and with its collaborative relationships for a credit card processor (goEmerchant), with Constant Contact, and Intuit, then the ability to create forms to integrate with your website. We are now re-developing our website and working to fully utilize the abilities of DS in our non-profit.

Pros

I love that I have the ability to customize the screens and that I can build forms to meet our needs.

Cons

The needs of a non-profit with donations and memberships are complex and had been managed poorly before this software was in use. The learning curve is long and complex and it is because the functions are complex as is needed with the type of needs we have.

Great value! Gives us everything we need and more at a fraction of the cost of our previous system.

Pros

We are a small non-profit that used to have a big donor software system. It was cumbersome--training new people always took some time. Reporting was confusing--we were never was sure that we were getting what we asked for. Support was adequate. The worst part is that the company seemed more concerned with selling add ons and upgrades than making sure we had what we needed. Moving to DonorSnap was...

Cons

Ironically, the one thing that took me some time to adjust to was its flexibility. I was so used to having to work within the constraints of a system. I went from, "It doesn't work that way" to "Sure, you can do that!" I really appreciate all of the things I can do to customize DonorSnap to fit my needs. . . define user profiles individually, add and customize fields, rearrange my dashboard to view what I want to view. . . it has all been great.

This is an excellent database platform. Not flashy, but very sufficient for our needs.

Reviewed 7 years ago
Pros

This database does everything we need it to and more. We're a smaller non-profit with 1500 donors. The database makes searching for information and pulling reports simple while providing all the details we need. The BEST part of DonorSnap is their incredible customer support team. They've never taken more than a few minutes to respond to email questions with clear and concise answers. They answer in a way that not only gives you what you need, but teaches you how to find it next time. This team is really on top of their game. Our organization also just launched the new partnership DonorSnap has with goEmerchant for our online giving and feedback from our donors has been very positive. Nice to have it all in one system.

Cons

This software is not flashy or polished. Then again it doesn't have a premium price tag. Once you learn the software though you'll find it has everything most people need to successfully manage an organizations donors/volunteers/etc. I think there are a few functions that would be great to add, but honestly, when I've asked the support team - 2/3 of the time they are already working on that next new feature! For example - one area that is lacking is regional donor search features. We have donors all across the country and when I go visit a certain area it would be great to search for all donors within 50 miles of a certain zip code for example.

Vendor response

David, Thank you so much for the feedback. Regarding the proximity report... we actually have this ready to go on our testing site. It will go live in the next batch of updates. You'll see that option in DataMiner Platinum by adding the zip code field to the query builder. Let us know how it meets your needs!

Being online means my data is accessible when I am out on the road or working from home or a volunteer's office. I can update donor records quickly, from anywhere, and the program is so intuitive my staff and volunteers have picked it up very quickly with little anxiety. The support available via the page help and video help is extensive, in fact we haven't had to call DonorSnap yet, although during the conversion it was clear that the staff is friendly, accessible and efficient - so I wouldn't hesitate. After a very disappointing and frustrating experience with our previous software I am both relieved and pleased with all that DonorSnap brings to the table. Bravo!

Pros

Smoothest conversion ever! I couldn't believe how seamless it was. And because I can define fields easily on the fly we didn't have to do a great deal of pre-work, as soon as we see a need I can simply create the field needed. DonorSnap is SO easy to use, very intuitive. With minimal training we are recording gifts, pulling mailing lists, tracking interactions and contacts, and syncing with Constant...

Cons

We migrated to DonorSnap over the summer from Ebase, and ran into trouble with the name override feature. DonorSnap is creating labels with two names "John Doe and Jane Doe" rather than John and Jane Doe. Perhaps there is an easy fix? I haven't asked yet. Beyond that, we are still learning to use Dataminer, but I find the page help feature a great guide. There were only one or two hiccups with the conversion, not in the migration, but because ebase and DonorSnap have different ways of tracking data (payment type, for example). Dennis suggested an easy work around, and within a year the problem will have dissolved on its own. Don't have any real cons yet...I'll keep looking!
