time cockpit is a cloud-based time tracking software for project-based service companies: software companies, IT service providers, system houses, consultancies, engineering and planning firms, and agencies. It is built for teams that book their working time on client projects and bill by the hour, from freelancers to enterprise teams with several hundred users.

One entry, three results

Working time is booked per client, project and task in a graphical calendar that also shows your Office 365 appointments. The same entry feeds the employee's hour account, the project budget and the invoice, so nothing has to be recorded twice. time cockpit runs in the browser on PC, Mac, Android and iOS. On Windows, the Activity Tracker records what you worked on and turns it into booking suggestions, so that no billable hour is lost.

Project controlling and invoicing

Budgets can be defined per project or per task and are continuously compared with booked hours and costs. Project managers see plan vs. actual, remaining budget and billability per project at a glance. Hourly rates can be set per client, project or task, and billable and non-billable hours are tracked separately. Invoices are generated directly from the time entries, optionally including travel expenses, flat fees and a detailed list of billed work for your client.

Employee time tracking in the same system

Project time tracking and employee time tracking run in one system instead of two. time cockpit supports working time models including part-time and flexitime, overtime balances, vacation, time off in lieu and sick leave with an approval workflow, public holiday calendars per country and region, working time limits for Austria and Germany, and a monthly booking lock.

Customizable down to the data model

This is what sets time cockpit apart from simple time tracking apps. You can add your own tables and fields and adapt forms, lists, permissions and reports to your processes. Calculations and automation are scripted with IronPython, and a sandbox environment lets you test changes before they go into production. If you do not want to do this yourself, the time cockpit team offers onboarding and customization services.

Open for integration

Every entity, including your custom ones, is available through a Web API with OData (read and write) and the query language TCQL, secured with personal access tokens. Power BI and Excel connect directly to the data for reporting. Single sign-on works with Microsoft Entra ID. This lets you connect time cockpit to ticketing or ERP systems.

Hosting and security

time cockpit runs on Microsoft Azure in EU data centers (Amsterdam and Dublin). Every customer gets a dedicated database, with 35-day point-in-time recovery. The user interface is available in English and German.

Pricing and trial

time cockpit is a subscription per user and month, billed to the day and cancellable at any time. The Business plan costs EUR 10.85 per user per month, and support is included. Freelancers use time cockpit free of charge for the first year. The Starter plan covers up to 10 users for EUR 29.90 for the entire first year. You can test all features for 30 days with an unlimited number of users, no credit card required.
