Video interviews are an effective way of screening applicants remotely. This approach not only saves time and cost for recruiters but also provides greater flexibility to both recruiters and applicants. 

Because of the coronavirus pandemic, video interviews have become more relevant than ever. With many countries under state-imposed lockdown, most recruiters have no option but to conduct video interviews.

EasyHire.me

EasyHire.me is a cloud-based video interview recruitment system. It supports live video interviews and recorded interviews (where applicants can record their responses to recruiters’ questions.

The tool helps recruiters conduct panel interviews. These interviews allow multiple recruiters or stakeholders to join an interview as a panel to assess an applicant. The tool also allows recruiters to test technical skills, such as coding and designing, through its “technical assessments” feature.

We analyzed user reviews of EasyHire.me to understand what buyers liked and the areas they felt needed some improvement. Here’s what we found.

What users liked

  • Prompt and supportive customer service.

  • Well organized graphic user interface that makes it easy to set up questions.

What users would like to see

  • A mobile app for conducting interviews on tablets or smartphones.

  • The option to have shorter interviews than the predefined 30-minute time limit.

Unique video interview feature - Interview transcripts

Recruiters can opt for the interview transcripts feature for a small fee, which generates subtitles for recorded interviews. The feature helps reduce language barriers in global hiring and increases accessibility for the recruiting team.

interviewstream is a cloud-based tool that helps users conduct live and recorded interviews. Some of its key features include interview builder, automated scheduling, question library, and mock interviews. 

Its “interview builder” feature allows recruiters to create interview guides that hold industry, role, and business process specific questions. These questions ensure consistency and quality of the interview process by helping recruiters gather correct information.

We analyzed user reviews of interviewstream to understand what buyers liked and the areas they felt needed some improvement. Here’s what we found.

What users liked

  • Personalization of interview invites as per the open designation. 

  • The ability to assess applicants on a uniform rating scale.

What users would like to see

  • Fewer audio and visual glitches in recorded interviews.

  • Lag-free live videos.

Unique video interview feature: Interview scheduler

interviewstream offers an automated interview scheduler that allows selected candidates to view the recruiter’s calendar and pick a date and time as per their availability. The scheduled interview reflects in the hiring team’s and applicant’s calendar, which eliminates the back-and-forth involved in scheduling interviews.

Spark Hire is a cloud-based tool that helps screen candidates virtually. It supports live, panel, and recorded interviews while offering extensive customization capabilities to recruiters. 

The software allows recruiters to alter various aspects of the video-interviewing process to suit their needs. They can customize conditions such as interview length, applicant response time, and re-recording limit. The tool also helps recruiters and hiring managers collaborate better by exchanging comments on interview videos.

We analyzed user reviews of Spark Hire to understand what buyers liked and the areas they felt needed some improvement. Here’s what we found.

What users liked

  • Paid users can turn off their subscription during low-hiring months.

  • Extensive integration with various applicant tracking systems.

What users would like to see

  • The ability to attach resumes to video interviews.

  • Fewer bugs and glitches.

SparkHire integrates with more than 30 applicant tracking systems, such as iCIMS, Zoho, and JazzHR. The integrations are available free of cost and make the hiring process faster.

Wepow

Wepow helps recruiters conduct personalized live interviews. The tool helps create personalized interview invites, practice interviews, and branded company videos.

The tool offers application processing interface (API) integration, separate mobile apps for recruiters and candidates, and instant messaging capabilities for recruiters to communicate with candidates.

We analyzed user reviews of Wepow to understand what buyers liked and the areas they felt needed some improvement. Here’s what we found.

What users liked

  • The layout provides access to forms, video responses, ratings, etc., from the same page. 

  • Graphical representations in assessment analytics make the data easy to understand.

What users would like to see

  • The ability to export details such as dismissed candidates and those still in the pipeline.

  • Fewer lags while using the interface and recording videos.

Unique video interview feature: Single sign-on integrations

Wepow integrates with single sign-on (SSO) providers, such as SAML, Okta, OneLogin, and PingFederate. These integrations make authentication and rights management easier.

Next steps

After gaining a general idea about these products and their features, there are some additional steps that should be taken in order to select the right tool. Let’s take a look at these:

  • Research about the vendor: It is essential to research about vendors to get an idea of how established they are, the services they provide, and their business conduct. For this, you can check the number of customers they serve, the countries they operate in, and their years of experience in the field. You should also read vendor reviews on third-party websites like ours or go through the case studies listed on the vendors’ website.

  • Speak with the vendor: It helps to speak with the vendor before finalizing a product. It gives you an opportunity to learn about any newly launched features that may not be listed on the website, get a product demo, or learn about new customizations available. If you have any unique feature or third-party integration requirements, you can also discuss these with the vendor.

Product selection methodology

To identify the products featured in this article, we used the following methodology:

We searched for video interview software in the incognito mode of Google search and gave preference to products that ranked higher in the search results. We judged these products on the below mentioned criteria until we arrived at 4 products.

  1. The product should have a rating of 4 or higher (out of 5) on GetApp and 10 or more user reviews (information accessed on April 14, 2020).

  2. The product should offer all the core features and at least half of the common features of video interview software. The core features include live video interviews and skill assessment/scoring, whereas the common features include panel interviews, question library, interview invitations, interview scheduling, and third-party integrations.
