We moved from Shopify to Bigcommerce because Shopify lacked features that Bigcommerce had out of the box such as proper product categories, saved payments, one-page checkout among others. These features have worked well and our conversion rates went from 3% to over 10%. Bigcommerce is great for more complicated product catalogs with lots of categories and skus whereas Shopify is great for simple catalogs.
Bigcommerce continues to build out new features rather than fixing problems with current ones. Every week I hear about a new payment processor or some random feature that's built half-baked. I've been very, very frustrated at the lack of thought behind many features and their inability to fix simple problems. Their API's are a mess, with some of the API's passing all the data you need, and other's missing important data needed - so we're creating functions to call information that should be (and easily can be) included in the objects returned by the API. There is NO mobile application, even to check simple things like orders, which is the most ridiculous thing given we're in 2019.

It was a solid program to start our retail website from, but it has not aged well compared to newer platforms that are now available. The price for the services provided by Big Commerce has gone up while the number and quality of those features has gone down.
Simple platform that is easy to setup. Tons of options to choose form to get the look you want for your website.
Lack of new integrations that platforms like Shopify and the like now offer making it hard to add additional selling networks.

Value for money, and easy to get started. Very good customer support and easy to integrate and update any information.
There are not many apps/softwares to integrate/implement to use like in Shopify. And there are limitations to customize checkouts etc.

In general, I am very satisfied with the product. It serves its purpose for a reliable and easy to set up ecommerce platform with lowmaintenance cost.
Although the platform offers a lot of features for an ecommerce business to be able to run daily operations and analyze data, my favourite part by far is the fact that it has a great customer service. Every time when there is an issue with the website or we have questions, we can chat with a representative from Bigcommerce. Their customer service is very reliable and knowledgeable. No waiting on the phone, no back and fort transferring between reps. Technical support is right there for you.
I wish there were more applications that can be easily integrated. Compared to Shopify, Bigcommerce doesn't offer as vast variety of options.

Great intergrations like the same day express postage with Zoom2U. Great pricing better than other platforms. Great online portal.
Themes weren't as good as it's competitors. Its like they don't care about modern websites. Didn't have Apple Pay for Web which customers wanted. Switched to Shopify

Not bad for simple stores. Support is responsive, but isn't very helpful. It's strange how many times I've contact developer support and said oops, looks like we don't have documentation for that. They roll out upgrades to their backend that are still very buggy.
Easy product management, plenty of payment gateways available, decent theme store. Handles product options / variants better than Shopify. Has some good B2B / wholesale features out of the box.
Themes are over bloated with way too many files. You can't edit the CSS and JS files online. Makes relatively easy changes (on other platforms) too time consuming. Often suffers from indexing delays and/ or caching issues so that your changes or new products you add take 30+ minutes to show up on the site. Main navigation menu is automated. You have to either hard code a menu or use an app if you want customizations to your menu. Stencil CLI can either work smoothly for editing themes or you'll spend hours chasing down compatibility issues. No way in store to easily find orphan pages.

Bigcommerce has just about everything you'd want in an ecommerce platform, easily enough to build out an entire online store
Doesn't have much really going for it over competitors like Shopify. Pricing is the same, fewer features, etc. Surprised they still have a fair amount of users.

Packed full of features and integrated plugins and apps with no expert knowledge required. It is cheaper than Shopify and has everything you need to implement a successful eCommerce business.
Still more expensive than regular hosting but with all the bells and whistles it is actually a good value, especially for someone without website knowledge.

We use BigCommerce to reach new customers in a public climate. It helps us to grandstand our products effectively and successfully. Its surely a better option than Shopify.
To set up online stores that aren't hosted by us, we had a few options to choose from. Bigcommerce turned out to be a perfect solution: - Scalable as much as you need. - Its a hosted solution, so no worries about server maintenance and technical costs. - Most plans offer multiple payment options with no transaction fees whatsoever. - Has a lot of free templates to choose from. - CMS and SEO features fully integrated with it. - Discounts and other marketing features. - Unlimited digital or physical products. - Drag and Drop builder.
- New themes are pretty expensive to buy. - The cheapest plan has transaction fees. - Not the most user friendly design capabilities. - Terminology is little difficult for beginners and there is a learning curve.

Big Commerce is certainly easier for the amateur to use than Shopify (a huge plus for aome of my clients) and its out of the box options are excellent.
I don't DO e-commerce myself as a retailer but I have worked for plenty who do and have created more than a few retail sites from scratch. I first encountered Big Commerce when a new client was stymied by the fact that Shopify made it nearly impossible for him to sell digital downloads. A huge problem for a 21st-century comic book author. Redoing his site with Big Commerce allowed for that functionality and in working with it I found it more intuitive than Shopify as well.
It is perhaps a little expensive when compared to other options BUT for the project I used it for it got my client exactly what he needed and the jump in revenue for him has meant that the software more than pays for itself.

We use Bigcommerce to run our E-commerce business. Overall, we are satisfied with the platform and it gets the job done.
The layout is fairly easy to navigate and the support team is helpful when we have issues. We went with Bigcommerce because we were having issues with Shopify with the timing and capturing of payments.
Bigcommerce is very limited in design options when compared to platforms such as Shopify, Wordpress and Magento. I would recommend going with one of them depending on your business needs.

BigCommerce's robust, scalable sales tools make it suitable for growing companies. If you are new to e-commerce, you can use other platforms such as Shopify, Commerce Tools, Salesforce, or WooCommerce.
Bigcommerce has a plethora of features; in fact, I believe they have the most comprehensive e-commerce features on the market.Bigcommerce provides a drag-and-drop website builder, templates, marketing tools, analytical tracking, abandoned cart recovery tools, and excellent SEO features.Bigcommerce allows you to sell an unlimited number of products, integrate with numerous email marketing tools, and accept payments through PayPal, Stripe, Apple Pay, and Square. The most important feature of Bigcommerce is the ability to do omni selling, which allows you to sell on marketplaces such as Amazon, eBay, and social media platforms. All BigCommerce plans include unlimited staff accounts and there are no transaction fees. They also offer a free 15-day trial and 24/7 customer service.
Bigcommerce lacks a good user interface, so new users may face a somewhat steep learning curve. The biggest disadvantage of BigCommerce is that it is difficult to migrate your site to another e-commerce platform. Your entire website is built on Bigcommerce, and if you want to migrate, you will have to pay exorbitant fees.In addition, they have a limited number of free design templates.

Ability to bring my brick and mortar business online and start gaining sales through other outlets and online.
The price point is decent for what it is. Has all the tools needed to bring my products online and to then be able to ship nation wide.
The interface is not very easy to navigate. I don't think much UI / UX testing was done when this was built out. Needs to be improved to continue to grow and compete with Shopify.

We moved from Magneto Go, to Magento CE, and then to Bigcommerce over the course of several years in business. Moving from Magento, Bigcommerce was an obvious and needed upgrade for us. Our store was more reliable, and significantly easier to manage day to day. A lot of things that had kept me up as a sysadmin were no longer an issue and we saw very little loss in functionality all things considered. We used Bigcommerce for roughly a year and a half, leaving the platform entirely in early 2018 for Shopify Plus. In terms of the software itself, I do not regret this transition at all. If you can afford Plus I would advise you to go for it. The product is more mature than it was even a year ago, and is now a clear industry leader over Bigcommerce, OpenCart, Magento etc.
Cloud based, more-reliable-than-magento hosting, decent discount rules engine, compatible with most major "Shipping Manager" softwares like Shipstation etc No overly-restrictive terms of use, suitable platform for sellers of "high-risk" items. Better than Magneto in practice for 85% of small to medium businesses.
Poor optimization for speed, poor user-facing checkout experience, tepid app ecosystem, objectively inferior automation and reporting tools, admin UI is clunky, customization of themes is difficult and costly, new features/product launches are paywalled and often incomplete, didn't stop billing us when we canceled service to switch to Shopify, experienced a glitch which inexplicably hid paid orders... It does the basics well, but there are plenty of e-commerce platforms out there that outperform BigCommerce. In my experience Shopify is better than BigCommerce is every way. I even prefer WordPress with WooCommerce to this.
BigCommerce does make it easy to list and sell products online. The product manager is pretty comprehensive, and most of the pages are made for you - including the home page. It includes several SEO features out of the box, which encourages users to make higher quality listings that will sell easier. There are many custom themes for Bigcommerce, and most of them look great. The interface has gotten a much needed facelift in the past few years.
If you're trying to do more than the basics, Bigcommerce (BC) is difficult to work with. App extensions are present, but nowhere close to the breadth and depth of functionality available to WordPress. They do have a theme editor, but it requires tricky setup and command-line actions to update. Compared to Shopify's theme editor which is all in-browser, the BC theme editor is lacking. Documentation...

It works, and we need the software as we couldn't integrate two Shopify stores into our ERP. I hope we can expect BigCommerce to keep adding features because they really do have a lot of catching up to do.
We stated using BigCommerce as the software behind our new website redesign. We like the ease of setting up the products, product customization and the large pool of experienced companies that design BigCommerce storefronts. It was easy to get setup and our new website was running in about 6 months.
The order management system they have in place is just not good. You cannot edit orders. Which customers expect us to be able to do. If a customer wants to add an item you can add the item, but you cannot charge the customer for the additional item within BigCommerce software. Same goes with removing items from orders. If you remove an item from an order it does not give you an option to refund the...

Over all I am happy with BigCommerce.
I like the store I created. I like the creative freedoms in BigCommerce. I find my way around easily. I like that I could use Quickbooks to process payments. At the time I started my online store that was not possible with Shopify.
You should be able to add locations to invoices. I don't print packing slips, just the invoices. I have to hand write the locations on the invoice for the person pulling items for the order. I wish I could sort the order of the items and have it stay that way! It takes a bit of time for the average Joe to learn their way around on BigCommerce. Once I got past the learning curve it became quite comfortable.

Overall experience was pretty good but since some of our users find it hard to understand some features and due to the lack of quick fixes in the software we have decided to migrate to the other saas platform. We used bigcommerce for up to 2 years for e-commerce purposes to sell across different countries.
The most likable thing about this software is there are no platform fees associated unlike other platforms like Shopify. Also, they have some great free features and smooth integration techniques with other platforms allowing the sellers to sell in the different markets without much of a hassle
The setup is not so easy and quick compared to other saas platforms. It's hard to locate and understand some features unless you have used them before which makes it not reachable for quick fix commerce, it needs some time and patience to fix the issues

Bigcommerce has more features out of the box than most any other shopping cart including Shopify. It's just the little things like being able to put custom messages like "ships in 1-2 days" on each product. Lot of product options that you see on larger big box websites. Cost is reasonable when compared to other solutions. Integrates with a ton of 3rd Party applications. Easy to find solutions to help you succeed.
There is a huge gap from mid tier plan to the enterprise solutions. The Pro and Enterprise Solutions include some features that are only accessible when you pay 3 times as much. Things such as faceted Search, so you can get a more "Amazon" like experience. We have experienced an overall reduction in site traffic since switching to Big C. We are not sure if this is because of how Google treats these sites in search, or if it's just that more and more people shop through marketplaces only. It's hard to say. 3rd Party App Marketplace is somewhat limited when compared to other solutions.

Our experience was positive. We liked that it was a Canadian company. User-friendly and easy setup for an online store that has a smaller budget and doesn't want to create an online store from scratch.
We evaluated Shopify, WIX, WordPress and Bigcommerce for our ecommerce website and Shopify and Bigcommerce were the winners. Shopify was easy to setup, competitive in pricing, had good store design options and user friendly back end. It also had lots of plugin for additional customizations.
Did not have out of the box gift certificate option that is usually expensive which is why we chose Bigcommerce.

I have found Shopify uch easier to use than BigCommerce, and it has way more apps and integrations that help me run my business better.
The variety of free templates available for use was very good. Also, they are completely customizable and can be adjusted to fit your brand and theme. It is easy to create new products for your store.
The custom coding is a bit difficult since shopify uses a code called liquid. It is similar to HTML, so it isn't impossible to edit, but it takes an advanced coder.

Interface is very intuitive and clean. Great apps store and theme store. Easy to launch and get a small business up and running. Way better navigation menu functionality than BigCommerce.
Basically everything about Shopify is geared to eventually push you up to using their enterprise version (Shopfiy Plus) which runs $2000+/mo. You can start off cheap if you're a small business with very little needs. But if you want real time shipping rates / integration and some other common apps, you're going to be cornered into using at least their $300/mo. plan.

As a developer, I liked the interface of Shopify, the speed of saving the changes of the code editor is very impressive.
- Extremely user friendly - Saves the code immediately rather than BigCommerce edit which takes a lot of time to save changes. - A bigger marketplace compared to other platforms. - A lot of third-party apps are available in the marketplace to help the users to achieve their requirements.
- Doesn't provide the ability to download the Theme for developers. - As a developer, I feel uncomfortable as it doesn't allow me to make changes on the checkout page. - A bit costly than compared to other platforms like BigCommerce.

Shopify has made running eCommerce companies a breeze. It makes life delightful. I started off eCommerce building my own store 10 years ago and then tested used BigCommerce and then onto Magneto but now we are on Shopify and any new site we develop is on Shopify. I can't praise it enough!!
It just works so good, you don't have to worry about setting up and especially the running of your eComemrce store
Right now very little, there are a couple of small things that I would like the software to have but tbh its not important.

I've worked with Magento sites, Woocommerce, Bigcommerce, and many modern WYSIWYG ecommerce stores. I've consulted on many projects and spoken to many founders, and the solution to many of the problems found on other platforms is: move to Shopify. They are merchant-focused and miles ahead of the rest. It lets us focus on marketing and serving.
- Affordable - Reliable - Fully customisable - Lets you focus on what matters, with none of the nonsense that other e-commerce platforms get you tied up in
It's easy to multiply your overheads by adding on apps through the store, as almost all of them are subscriptions.

Our issues with Bigcommerce were as a SaaS platform features other platforms had would take too long to implement. While Shopify's robust ecosystem of apps does help solve many of these issues. With woocommerce we no longer have to worry about a site getting hacked or worry about can the server handle the surge we possibly could get from a large marketing campaign.
Simple Setup, Ease of use for beginners and advanced store users We are able to efficiently migrate from Bigcommerce and also the 2nd store from woocommerce Overall integrations with shipping software, tax software, or ERP have been fairly simple due to multiple ready-to-use connectors. Migration from other platforms is very easy, we utilized 2 different services - LiteExtension and Cart2Cart, Both allowed redirects to be setup which are critical for SEO.
Everything is app-based, any additional features you require will have associated app costs. Some basic things like product dimensions per item are not available and have to be done with apps. Some integrations may not be available and these would have to be done using custom-developed connectors or API.

I work with a lot of websites that are ecommerce-based, and the headaches you'd expect to come with complex ecosystems are so much less frequent with Shopify than they are with Magento, BigCommerce, etc. While other systems frustrate me to a point where I say "eh, I just won't even try to do 'task x' ", Shopify has a simple enough engine and vast enough app store that I feel like very few tasks are insurmountable.
From startup stores to enterprise solutions, Shopify has a structure that any site can use (and excel with). The templates available give each store a 'custom' feel, and the platform-side checkout solution prevents a lot of hiccups and downtime that would be caused by inexperienced developers trying to manipulate that crucial step in the funnel.
Lately (fall 2019), Shopify has had quite a bit of downtime. Because they host so many stores, it appears their servers can get overwhelmed during heavy seasons, causing slower responses and even causing stores to crash. Since the stores are all somewhat linked, this can cause issues for a large amount of stores, killing sales and harming customer reputation.
