Square Online from a Salon's Perspective: A Mixed Bag

Overall, each individual component part is quite strong.  And several of them do work quite well together when aligned with the more common use cases (e.g. accepting bookings for a hairstylist followed by in-person payments, or estimates and invoice management for a service business).  However, as you start layering in additional complexity or are looking at less common needs/applications, the simplicity that is arguably its core selling feature in the beginning ends up working against it as you start to feel like you've got "lots of different things, in lots of different places, and some of it is repetitive but isn't always, and some of it syncs automatically but sometimes not, and........" well... you get the drift. 

All Square, but will Shop-If-I have a need/opportunity to try a different provider 😉

Overall, my experience with Square has been extremely positive and I would highly recommend this system to a company who needs something simplistic. 

Convenience at your fingertips!

For organizations that offer services, we require a credit card method of payment, which is why square works well for us. Ideally, the fees would be less. Or even if Square knows we are a non-profit organization, there would be a less expensive fee option. It is however a great system to create invoices and send for payment.

My wife and I run a business which has a trust account connected to Square. We signed up and had one of our client made our first transaction. Square put money on hold in March 2022 and still keeps it. We have called Square for a resolution and they keep telling us that their technology malfunctioned and they are looking into it. The amount our client paid was almost $20,000, which was supposed to be used to rent their home. Imagine the frustration when that rent wasn’t happening and Square keeps the money for almost a year!! Then Square representative said the money was finally available and will be deposited to our bank. But instead, Square tech tried taking another almost $20,000 from our bank! Thanks to Bank of America who blocked the transaction as fraud. Square is a fraud indeed!! Now our Square account shows zero balance and we still did not get the money to refund to our client. What a sham! They say they are in technology business….

Tech malfunctions. Money kept.

Functionality of the website and operation is excellent.  Customer service and knowledge of staff  is not what it should be and information regarding fees is unclear. 

Excellent Product with Hidden Costs!! 

Easy and satisfying to use. It's not as customizable as SquareSpace, but it looks good and integrates with a decent amount of third party apps.

I made a quick website since I was already using their POS and appointments

Love that I can track all inventory in my brick and mortar and online all in one place without extra work. It all happens in the background, and I can focus on other areas of business. Recently added employees and began using payroll. Makes life so simple to track employee hours, maintain schedules, and complete payroll with just a few clicks. It even reminds me to complete my payroll, which I am sure my employees appreciate.

Overall, I’ve been pleased with my experience with Square. I was glad to be able to re-negotiate my processing fee earlier this year, and the online store was really helpful during the beginning of the pandemic.

I have used Square almost from the moment I founded our press. It is easy to navigate, easy for a web master to add or subtract books, and so easy for our readers to purchase a book or even many books at one time. The site feels very safe to both us and to our purchasers. I also particularly like how quickly payments come in and are clear. I gave up other sites when I began to employ Square. I can't begin to say how very happy I have been with Square in infinite ways!

So previously to using Square Online, I was emailing invoices directly to clients, which then required some wait time and required me to spend time at the end of my days to create the invoices for them, then send them off, and it was very cumbersome and took a lot of time out of my day to send off the invoices. I chose Square Online because of its convenience, because I was able to use it on my phone through the app, or even on my laptop in between clients. And really quickly send off invoices, receive payment, and track all of my expenses and all of my incoming and out-coming payments.
                                                       Getting started with Square was super easy for me. I was able to just input my services and items that I would be regularly charging my clients. And using the app and my computer, I was able to insert everything very quickly and be up and running to invoice my clients within a day. I highly recommend Square Online for anyone who's considering it. Anyone who has a fast-paced business and needs to be able to keep up with all of their invoicing and all of their payments on the fly, it is really helpful for that.

It's right there at your fingertips. It's extremely easy to onboard and integrate.
                                                       My recommendation for you is if you are trying to take your business to the next level, and you want to present yourself as a professional and provide easy, trackable ways to take your client's payment information, it's secure. It's fast. It's easy to use. It's a no brainer. I would suggest that you take a look at Square Online because I don't think you would be disappointed.
