Chrome Enterprise overview

What is Chrome Enterprise?

Chrome Enterprise is a suite of business browser offerings comprising the Chrome browser, a cloud-based management layer (Chrome Enterprise Core, available at no additional cost), and an advanced security tier (Chrome Enterprise Premium). Organizations use it to deploy, manage, and secure Chrome across Windows, Mac, ChromeOS, Android, and iOS devices from a single Google Admin console, or on-premises via ADM/ADMX group policy templates and Microsoft Active Directory. With 500+ enforceable policies, IT teams can configure extension approvals, pin browser versions, set data loss prevention (DLP) rules across desktop and mobile, and enforce context-aware access controls for SaaS apps and remote or hybrid workers, all without requiring additional third-party extensions.

The security architecture includes real-time malware, ransomware, and phishing protection backed by Google Safe Browsing data from over 5 billion users, sandboxed page isolation that runs each web page and application in its own environment, and automatic browser updates with zero-day vulnerability patching. Advanced security reporting surfaces risky users, domains, and data protection alerts. Open integrations connect Chrome Enterprise to existing enterprise stacks including Microsoft Intune, VMware Workspace ONE, Jamf Pro, Splunk, CrowdStrike Falcon Logscale, Citrix Secure Access, Zscaler Private Access, Trellix Endpoint DLP, and Google Security Operations, reducing the need to replace incumbent tooling.

AI capabilities are built directly into the browser and governed by IT policy. Gemini in Chrome provides a side-panel assistant for summarization, Q&A, and idea generation without tab switching. Gemini Enterprise search is accessible from the address bar and New Tab page for querying internal systems. Auto browse automates tasks across Google tools and open web workflows, while saved Skills enable reusable, browser-context prompt workflows. Google Lens supports in-browser visual search and follow-up questions. GenAI policy controls allow IT administrators to configure or restrict individual AI features organization-wide, and Chrome Enterprise Premium adds governance that prevents sensitive data from being pasted into unauthorized AI tools. Verified industries using the platform include automotive manufacturing, telecommunications, aviation, food delivery and logistics, motorsport, and technology. A 2023 Forrester Consulting Total Economic Impact study documented cost savings and productivity gains attributable to Chrome cloud management.
