NextPlane overview

What is NextPlane?

NextPlane OpenHub is enterprise collaboration interoperability software that connects Microsoft Teams and Google Workspace, enabling users on different collaboration platforms to communicate and collaborate through their existing applications. The platform is designed for organizations that maintain multiple collaboration environments and need those environments to work together without requiring users to switch applications or consolidate onto a single platform.

OpenHub connects Microsoft Teams and Google Chat for cross-platform 1:1 and group messaging, Teams channels and Google Chat spaces, presence, file sharing, and supported voice and video calling. Users can communicate with colleagues on another platform from the application they already use, while organizations can maintain their existing collaboration environments. This makes the software applicable to companies with different platforms across business units, subsidiaries, acquired organizations, or other groups that need to collaborate.

The interoperability model is built around existing user identities. Rather than creating bots, synthetic users, proxy users, or relying on cross-tenant impersonation, OpenHub connects users through the identities they already have. User and guest accounts remain governed by the organization’s existing identity, security, and compliance policies. As a result, employees don’t need to create or manage separate accounts solely to communicate with colleagues using another collaboration platform.

For organizations with enterprise security and governance requirements, OpenHub uses a dedicated single-tenant architecture. The software can run in a customer’s own Google Cloud project, giving organizations control over collaboration data, identities, and access while supporting requirements for security, governance, and data residency. Scoped permissions are used for interoperability and can align with established identity and access management practices. The architecture avoids the need for a shared proxy tenant or vendor-controlled user accounts.

Administration takes place through existing Microsoft Teams and Google Workspace administration environments rather than through a separate OpenHub administration console. IT teams can continue using the administrative tools and identity infrastructure already established for their collaboration platforms. This also allows organizations to maintain their existing policies and controls when managing connected users and guest accounts.

The licensing model is based on monthly active unique users. Rather than licensing individual proxy or guest accounts, organizations pay according to actual active usage of the interoperability service. This supports deployments that start with a small group of users and expand as cross-platform communication requirements grow.

Multiple collaboration platforms can arise for a variety of reasons. A business may have different technology standards across subsidiaries, maintain separate environments after a merger or acquisition, or allow different groups to use Microsoft Teams and Google Workspace based on their existing technology investments. In these situations, interoperability can provide a way to connect users without requiring an organization to replace an existing collaboration platform or undertake a broader platform consolidation.

With OpenHub, organizations retain control of their collaboration environments, identity systems, administrative policies, and security practices while providing employees with cross-platform communication capabilities.

NextPlane has a strategic partnership with Google and is a Certified GCP Interoperability Partner. NextPlane OpenHub is built as a cloud-native interoperability layer for enterprise collaboration, with a single-tenant architecture designed around customer-controlled identities, data, security, deployment, and administration.
