Shipper TMS overview

What is Shipper TMS?

Shipper TMS is a transportation management system extension for Microsoft Dynamics Three Hundred Sixty Five Business Central that enables planning of truck loads, assignment of drivers and vehicles, route management, and control of freight costs within the existing enterprise resource planning environment. The solution converts sales, purchase, and transfer orders into transport requests so dispatchers can assemble capacity controlled loads and release execution ready transport orders without leaving Business Central. The system is designed for manufacturers, distributors, and retailers that manage fleet operations and coordinate inbound and outbound transportation as part of end to end supply chain activities. Integration with native Business Central documents and workflows maintains data consistency and eliminates duplicate entry across transport planning processes.

Multiple planning workspaces accommodate diverse dispatch workflows and operational priorities. Load Management supports request first planning by presenting transport requests in a pool and allowing assignment to new or existing transport orders with control over weight, volume, floor space, and logistic units. Truck Load Management supports truck first load building by planning work by vehicle slot, planning date, and time window while displaying eligible requests, load estimates, fit reasons, warnings, and blocking reasons prior to order creation and release. Driver Load Management provides driver first planning with conflict control by enabling review of driver workload, assignment or change of vehicles, and detection of double booking or availability issues before release. The Visual Scheduler presents a timeline based planning interface that groups transportation work by route, carrier, driver, vehicle, consignee, shipper, or transport condition and enables drag and drop adjustment of timing and grouping.

Intelligent candidate evaluation identifies which transport requests can be assigned to selected truck slots and categorizes them as eligible, requiring review, or blocked. The system provides load estimates before assignment and explains fit reasons such as matching depot, compatible route, or capacity configuration. Warning indicators highlight scenarios requiring planner review such as high utilization or missing assignments and blocking indicators identify constraints such as capacity limits, time window mismatch, transport condition mismatch, or unavailable resources. Conflict detection reviews vehicle and driver assignment issues prior to dispatch and displays indicators in planning views to support resolution before execution.

Execution control is maintained through transport orders that link route definition, carrier, vehicle, driver, document management, and loading sequences in a single workflow. Carrier selection functionality allows comparison of multiple options for identical routes, creation of charge lines from selected carriers, and allocation of freight cost back to original Business Central orders to reveal true delivery cost by weight, volume, distance, or units. Route calculation integrates with Google Maps or Azure Maps to generate routing that accounts for vehicle height, gross vehicle weight, axle load, hazardous cargo classifications, and toll avoidance preferences. Integration with telematics providers including Geotab, Samsara, and Webfleet connects transport orders to real fleet visibility data. The solution can be extended with modules for logistic unit control, warehouse management workflows, and field proof of delivery confirmation.
