I have really enjoyed my overall experience with Tahua because it's a well-designed system and the customer support was excellent. The team were extremely helpful during setup and onboarding.
What we like about Tahua is the way that it can handle all the most important aspects of managing grants. It also enforces people to follow best practices because the app guides people through the full grants management process without giving the user too much opportunity to go off book.
There is a pretty steep learning curve for newcomers because grants management involves a lot of steps, and you may also receive pushback in your organisation if they need to update their processes to fit the way Tahua manages grants. But in my opinion this is not really a bad thing.

Tahua has allowed me to have one source of truth as the manager of multiple funds, across multiple teams, and to manage high volumes of applications and contracts all at one time. Being able to run a fund through its whole lifecycle in one place with confidence that everything is secure and safe has been a highlight of my time across roles.
What stands out for me with Tahua is how easy it is to navigate and use from a user perspective. My number one priority in my role is to make our funding as accessible to as many whānau as possible, and following my experience with Tahua in my previous role at Te Tumu Whakaata Taonga, it was an easy choice to bring Tahua to my new mahi. The layout, presentation, clear labelling, and easy 'ask for help' features give whānau confidence and the ability to access our funding.
There are very small, everyday user things I've asked for with Tahua over the time I've used it, and this feedback has always been taken on board and usually implemented right away. I don't have any additional suggestions at this time. I think the overall product is very strong.

Prior to having Tahua we had no GMS, all grant applications and assessment was done via email. Tahua has made my life so much easier, and I'm so glad we made the decision to go with them. Both our applicants and assessors really like the system, we've had great feedback. Getting this GMS in place was key for us having processes that match other similar funders- we've found that many of our stakeholders have really appreciated this change.
The onboarding process has been really smooth, the software is very intuitive and easy to use, and we've been able to have as many people as we need as admins. We have specific needs for our grant processes (multi-stage, research office overview) and Tahua has been very responsive to those by developing new features in short spaces of time, which has been awesome. Whenever we find an issue/bug, the Tahua team are very responsive and fix it very quickly.
Initially I felt that the cost was quite high compared to other products, but given the service we've received it's been worth every penny. Sometimes it has felt that the team might be a bit overstretched, so they have been a bit short with us. Some of our stakeholders haven't loved that they don't have control of applicants from their institution (which is common with other grant software), which has meant we've had to do a little more education than we expected to with these organisations.

I have been greatly pleased with my experience with Tahua, and have championed use of the system in my wider organisation. Tahua has saved me countless hours of admin, and I have always been happy that I can alter templates to suit my needs at any given time. I have always had professional communication with the Tahua team, who have always offered solutions to challenges we have identified.
The ease of the system once you have learned it is very straightforward. The customisable templates for all process steps allow the system to be tailored to the organisation and any specific needs required. The customer support from Tahua has always been fast, and they have always worked to resolve our problems and offer new features that make it even simpler and faster to run our workflows through Tahua. The reporting function allows a quick export of relevant data. It takes what has been a laborious and time consuming process and made it so efficient that time can be spent assessing the applications rather than organising them.
The reporting function can take some getting used to so that you can get the specific data you need and then format it yourself once you have the export. Training is required, and larger organisations will need to be agile to adopt the system's full functionality.

What stands out to me about Tahua is its ease of use for both grant administrators and applicants, the ability to customize the platform to meet your needs, and their highly responsive and supportive team. The software as a service monthly payment approach also made this grant management portal a compelling option.
I'm only part way through the grants management cycle so cannot comment on cons at this time.
