Brivo Access product overview

What is Brivo Access?

Brivo Access is a cloud-based access control and smart spaces technology that remains the global leader providing Saas-based solutions for commercial real estate, multifamily residential, and large distributed enterprises.

Key benefits of using Brivo Access

  • Maintenance responsibilities that traditionally fell on the IT department are off-loaded to the software vendor. That means security teams can focus on managing building security and facility management. With sophisticated tools, businesses can monitor security events, detect anomalies, and monitor activities with video across multiple properties. This keeps physical spaces, employees, and other assets safe.

  • Continuous upgrades to the software-as-a-service, eliminate the need for extra work and downtime that are necessary with conventional on-premise software. Brivo is constantly updating our software to ensure the applications are secure and adding new features and capabilities. For cyber-security, software vulnerabilities are identified and addressed immediately. This practice of continuously building cybersecurity and resilience into their solutions helps protect against evolving cyber threats.

  • Buying access control as a subscription has additional financial benefits. It eliminates the large up-front expenditure related to purchasing and expensive maintenance. Subscription services allow ongoing upgrades and improvements and provide access to robust, enterprise-ready software on a small business budget. Teams can use the total cost of ownership or ROI calculator to estimate the savings the unique property will create.

  • SaaS platforms can scale on-demand, whether to add more users or add more sites. Security software as a service allows businesses to be more nimble and scale faster to meet the demands for business growth. For enterprise companies, delivering scalable computing capacity and advanced services can give operators an edge over the competition as well.

  • On-premise software system updates can require enormous amounts of time, money, and staff resources. Enterprise businesses may require large or multisite upgrades. A system upgrade or integration could result in version discrepancies between sites and potential compatibility issues. The potential for problems is a drag on the business and can endanger not only future revenue but turn into more tangible costs in the immediate short-term.

    Pros
For what it's worth, I have a pretty good base-understanding of access control systems (as in, I can create a group, user, pull some reporting, etc).
It was very easy to add and remove employees. The app provided a great solution for the end of physical keycards.
Ease of use and ability to do an audit to see who comes in and out of the building.
    Cons
Constant failure on the Boards, Tech Support is Horrible and Product Fails too much.
There is no way to do this quickly anymore, and now instead of taking me 30 seconds to create rules it takes literally ten minutes... why was this changed. It made the whole process much worse.
The blame gets shifted on the staff when it does. If there was a way to manage the issues that cause outages I would wear a brivo shirt to work everyday.

    Fabulous Product!

    Reviewed a year ago

I am so happy that we switched from Tru Portal! Brivo Access is easy to use and manage even for people who are not tech savvy!

    Pros

It is easy to use and the app is essential for me so that I can lock and unlock doors when I am not on site. It is easy to set up users, easy to use and manage. I can assign users temporary access in case they just need it for a short time.

    Cons

I love it all! Luckily we have been using our security company for a long time and they know all of the tunnels and access panels around the church. They had to do some creative wiring to hook up some of the panels but that isn't a Brivo thing. It is an old building thing!

Great product, The worst customer service!!

    Reviewed a year ago

Last repair was my last. I ripped out system. I would rather have a key and an intercom. Simple system. It would take me 3-4 days to get anyone on the phone. After getting them on the phone, I would get transferred 6-7 times, and many times I got disconnected. It is very difficult to understand the person on the phone. Did I say frustration! To my real estate friends, run from this product due to the customer service. I inherited this system. The monthly is too expensive. They are about $70.00 per month, and others are $10.00 per month. It was all good until I needed help!

    Pros

When it worked, it was a great product.

    Cons

Overpriced compared to competitors. Not just the product itself, but the monthly is 6-7 times more than the competition. The worst part about this product is the customer service. It is the worst customer service. If you don't mind, taking 3-4 days to resolve an issue, then this is your company.

    Almost Done

    Reviewed 3 years ago

Brivo - Does not get back or follow through with its promises as a company. I can list things we as dealers have been promised and have not one after another. I have to hound them to get any response. It is also very frustrating to see costs going up for fewer services. I do not have an issue with cost increases as long as values are created.

    Pros

As a contractor that installs and runs only Brivo as their go-to, I like that I can train any HR person in 1 - 2 hours. turn over is high. so training is imperative to keep the system up.

    Cons

It is not close to being done. We are still waiting on things to be finished but they keep adding on to it. So it is good enough to sell but not complete. We have been pushing this for 3 years now. Also, the labelling in the program side is very inconsistent and if you did not use the system much you would not realize just what an issue this is.

    Good product, but two requests

    Reviewed 3 years ago

The system has allowed us to standardize access to buildings and centrally manage our users' keys. We can limit their access when necessary or lock out building access in emergencies. All of this and more has been very helpful to our organization.

    Pros

The web interface is easy to use and effective/stable. Changes seem to propagate to the panels quickly. I really like that the events stream in real-time and that the reports can be scheduled and emailed on the schedule.

    Cons

My main complaint is that card numbers do not sync from Active Directory. This means that, every time we assign/reassign a proximity card, I have to log into the interface to change it, even though we already store that in AD. I have requested this before but the company said they wouldn't allow that. An alternative would be API access so that I could integrate it with my existing change process. But you have to PAY for API access?! I've never heard of that before - this is the only service we have with that requirement. Other than that, the system works very well.

    Workplace Manager review

    Reviewed 2 years ago

Great! No issues that I am aware of from an admin perspective, users find it easy enough to install/use on a daily basis. Overall, brivo is reliable.

    Pros

Brivo is relatively easy for an non-IT person to manager. Our low voltage vendor installed the physical hardware and helped created doors/etc on the dashboard. Once everything was installed, I was able to create a group for our employees. Management of users (onboarding/offboard/troubleshooting) is relatively easy...I am not our IT support, so when issues scale above my knowledge base I will call brivo support. Luckily I haven't had any issues...so I haven't called support yet. For what it's worth, I have a pretty good base-understanding of access control systems (as in, I can create a group, user, pull some reporting, etc).

    Cons

too many apps, why is there a badge app/admin app? would be great to funnel all services/functions under 1 app. I'm actually pretty sure there are three apps.
