What is AllSight?

30+ years in the making, Sassafras AllSight is a hardware and software asset manager like no other. Originally built back when every bite counted, the integrated, on-prem server process and lightweight client deliver reliable data about computer and software inventory and usage with surprisingly little overhead.

• Automated Inventory: Client automatically discovers computer configuration details, including external monitors and installed software applications, to deliver trustworthy details about each Windows, Mac, Linux, and ChromeOS machine (including virtual and thin-client). Sassafras’ cloud-hosted Product Recognition Service (PRS) then normalizes virtually every software product installed on client computers.

• Hardware Tracking: Manage all of your IT hardware from purchase order to disposal with our full-featured hardware asset management tools, including: computers, Chromebooks, mobile devices, printers, displays, networking hardware and more. Import purchase records and asset details prior to deployment, and automatically track hardware properties, login details, software installations and usage events, plus much more, throughout the lifecycle of each unit.

• Availability Maps: Provide visibility into computer usage and availability across campuses or offices worldwide with geographic and floorplan maps. Computers are easily grouped with Active Directory OU mapping or automatic filters, and then each location is easily dropped onto dynamic geographic maps. Computer groups can then be viewed as lists, or a floorplan can be drawn up using our fully integrated CAD drawing tools. Software search functionality allows end users to locate available computers that have the products they need.

• Usage Reporting: Every OS login, software application launch, and user-defined cloud-product is observed by KeyServer. Usage stats include the computer, user, and location. Detailed usage reports, spanning any date range, computer, software, and/or user group are generated instantly. Reports can be scheduled to run on a regular basis and automatically emailed to stakeholders, or run on-demand from pre-configured “One-click” buttons saved to user dashboards. Excel, PDF, text, xml, and our dynamic KSR export formats are all supported.

• License Management: Software policies give you complete, automated control of who, when, and where an application can be used based on the terms of your license agreement. Concurrent use (CUL), device, user, and leased licensing are supported for standard desktop applications, while PVU, socket, and processor-based license metrics are supported in the data center.

• Software Compliance: Software asset management begins with the purchase order. Enter purchase data manually or import it directly into AllSight via spreadsheet, with reusable field maps for bulk imports in your native format. Software purchase records reconcile directly with license management policies, automatically helping maintain compliance by enforcing license limits. Compliance reports compare purchased entitlements to usage data, providing a unique, audit ready compliance position for each software product.

Sassafras helps in identify waste in business. It is a good product for cost analysis of software and hardware.

Pros

Sassafras K2 captures complete information on machine and software usage. The level of detail in the information gathered is impressive and useful. Support from the Sassafras is solid and available to users of all skill levels.

Cons

The interface has a learning curve. It is good to pair with the vendor when beginning to install their agent on the clients. I use is mostly for asset tracking and usage, but the capabilities are big and can be overwhelming for the end user.

We were careful to enter good, valid data into the software. It is stable, but can be difficult to pull out the desired information. The customer support is really good.

Pros

It is a comprehensive asset management tool.

Cons

The interface can be really overwhelming. It takes time to acclimate to the windows and organize in a useful manner.
