What is Elephas?
Elephas is a Mac-native AI knowledge assistant designed for individual professionals and small teams who work with sensitive or confidential documents. It builds searchable knowledge bases, called Super Brains, by indexing PDFs, Word documents, Apple Notes, Notion pages, Obsidian vaults, Zoom transcripts, and 20+ additional file formats directly on-device. All indexing runs locally with no data sent to external servers by default. A system-wide keyboard shortcut surfaces AI writing assistance, summarization, translation, grammar correction, and content generation from within any Mac application, eliminating window-switching. Cross-device sync extends Super Brains to iPhone and iPad under a single subscription.
Elephas supports a flexible privacy-to-capability spectrum. Fully offline operation is available via local AI models through Ollama or LM Studio, keeping all data on-device. For tasks requiring greater model capability, users can route requests to OpenAI (GPT-4), Anthropic (Claude), Google (Gemini), Perplexity, DeepSeek, Together AI, or Voyage AI, using their own API keys. Before any content reaches a cloud model, on-device automatic PII redaction detects and anonymizes 28 entity types including names, emails, phone numbers, addresses, SSNs, and financial details. Every conversational response over indexed content includes citations tied to the specific source document and passage.
Target verticals include legal (solo practitioners and small law firms), financial advisory, consulting, accounting, marketing, and academic research. Agentic workflows support multi-step automation via pre-built templates and custom agents invoked with @ commands. Additional capabilities include diagramming (Mind Maps, Timelines, Gantt Charts, Flowcharts), a PDF form-filling agent, audio file ingestion and querying, and integrated web search. Pricing starts at $9.99/month with a 7-day free Pro trial and no credit card required, with no per-seat fees or annual contracts.
