Top PDF Viewer/Editor Program on Market

Reviewed 2 months ago

Overall, great experience with Bluebeam Revu. Been a customer for the past 5 years. Never looked back or started looking for another program. Bluebeam has made my work quite simpler. Once you learn the basics, this program is so simple to do quick field measurements, combine/edit files, markup pdf's, extract pages to separate files and so many more functions that I have still to learn.

Pros

So many functions that are pertinent to the construction industry that I can use on a daily basis from viewing files to doing quick measurements to editing files to combining or converting to and from PDF files. One very big pro about Bluebeam is the customer service. I had a laptop die on me and it locked out my bluebeam account. I contacted customer support and within a few hours, they unlocked my account for me to register on my new laptop. I thought that was absolutely incredible with the quick turnaround on my Bluebeam license.

Cons

Probably my biggest con for Bluebeam is the cost of the software. It is a little pricey, little higher than competitors. But well worth it if you use this program on a daily basis.

Such as useful tool

Reviewed 7 months ago

A useful tool I've been using since 2016. The private consulting industry has basically embedded this software into their workflow. Sadly, probably due to its cost, the public sector/client dont tend to use Bluebeam or they have the entry level version without all the features.

Pros

Bluebeam works perfectly with drafting and producing drawings through Civil 3D. It's quick and convenient to use for engineering drawings. One particularly great feature, is the ability to calibrate your own scale and measure quantities to scale. It is a great tool for producing markups and redlines on PDFs to share with the team. Before the pandemic, we occasionally did the markups and comments by hand, now it's exclusively all through PDF markups.

Cons

When they have yearly program version updates, they tend to change the UI around so it takes some time to relearn the Bluebeam features. For the polyline feature, it's annoying having to press enter to finalize the command and save the line drawn (especially if it's not a close polygon). I use this tool daily and it's extremely annoying when I lose my line! I would love it if they made it so a right-click during the command saves and exits so I can complete the entire command with my mouse.

Very Good Functionality and Good Overall Performance for the Money

Reviewed 5 years ago

Our estimating team switched to this from planswift and we've had more people get on board who were doing paper takeoff. While there were definitely some pains with transitioning once we got used to the new layout we came to appreciate some of the additional features Revu has to offer. I would say planswift is a bit quicker for doing small quick takeoffs, but when we do larger jobs and especially jobs...

Pros

Lots of different functions (construction takeoff/room scheduling, document mark-up/review, document creation) Customization for different users/tasks through profiles Excel export of markups/takeoff Cheaper than alternative takeoff software Easy to share with others (uses .pdf files) Ability to transition from takeoff to room schedule through spaces feature (big time saver for us as we do lots of air device takeoff) Easy to combine/compare revised drawings to old drawings/takeoff.

Cons

Takes a while to get up to speed on compared to other takeoff software (all the features can get overwhelming) Takeoff functions are not as polished/fast to use as some dedicated takeoff software (although the latest update fixed some of this) Certain PDF's can take long to load/render (rare problem, but very difficult to work around when it happens)

Easy to use. Lot of functionality.

Reviewed 5 years ago

Quickly and easily edit PDFs. More powerful and functional than most of the basic PDF applications available. Merge documents from a Windows Explorer window.

Pros

Bluebeam has a lot of buttons and features out-of-the-box. The default layout is intuitive. Quickly and easily add text, highlights, shapes, callouts, and lines to PDFs. The buttons for rotating the page are readily available. Taking snapshots/copies, cropping, and other editing functions are easy. Bluebeam has measurement tools so you can easily get dimensions off of plans. There are tons of keyboard...

Cons

Bluebeam provides a lot of functionality, but depending on your needs you may be able to use something cheaper and less functional. You should weigh your need for a tool like this. The "Staple" function for combining files within a Windows Explorer window/menu could be a little simpler. It currently brings up a dialogue box that is overly complicated and not intuitive. Other software like Adobe Acrobat allow you to do this much easier with only a few mouse clicks.

Good price, easy to use. I had been using this software for almost two years, and when it was time for me to buy a PDF editor and after testing a couple, I had no doubt to go for this.

Great Program for self-taught people

Reviewed 10 months ago
Pros

Manage pretty much any PDF Document. Customizable and user friendly interface.

Cons

This program has so many functions I know I am missing out on key and crucial aspects of it. The customer service is a bit non-existent but they will respond to emails. I think that the cost effectiveness if you learn things yourself is great, but asking for $250 for classes at the top end and $100 for classes at the low end is a bit steep.

Bluebeam Revu for Construction Managers

Reviewed 5 years ago

I think that Bluebeam is the best PDF manager/user tool created since the original Adobe.

Pros

It is easy, powerful, and allows you to be the master of all documentation. PDF to word conversion, drawings tools, measurement tools, scaled take-offs, etc. etc. Very powerful. The creation, modification, and use of the Stamps is another great tool for the contractor. We use Bluebeam to review, mark, and submit 100% of our shop drawings. We then have to digitally stamp each page and being able to change the date and comments in the stamp so quickly is awesome. It integrates well with PROCORE which is an excellent Management Software. The license is transferable between devices so that I can carry my SINGLE license from my work laptop to my home computer very easily by logging in on my license number.

Cons

Cost could be a factor...although I don't pay the bill at my company so I don't have the answer to the license requirements and costs.

Pros

It is very user friendly and very intuitive. The dashboards are set up similar to acad and I can draw pretty well. The editing features are also top notch.

Cons

It is a bit pricey for a PDF editor. You can get adobe versions much cheaper and while it maybe less functional, the adobe programs do work ok.

Greatest PDF Software

Reviewed 6 years ago

This is excellent software that gives you enormous bang for your buck. The Extreame version is by far the best and worth every penny. Its easy to use basic tools, as it has a similar interface with AutoCAD, but it also has some really good tools that are easy to learn with a little exploring. I work in many design and modeling software and this is just an extension of them. It also has plugins for many popular software. One of my favorite abilities is going from 3D revit to PDF and being able to view it. It makes communicating easier for field workers because they can rotate and view the model in 3D without me being right there. Great product!

Pros

Super easy to use and has tools for every type of user. From Basic to advanced, from field engineer to CAD Designer.

Cons

I can't honestly think of anything. It's great, easy to use and excellent value.

Expensive but great for editing pdf documents

Reviewed 3 years ago

Bluebeam Revu is great for creating pdf's, marking up existing pdf's, and for gathering material quantities from construction floorplans. We use it to calculate items such as drywall, trim, paint, tile, etc. It is easy to use (especially the previous versions) and gives users the flexibility to create professional documents.

Pros

I use this for renovation projects and editing presentations to show clients that look professional. I also love how easy it is to create documents for social media posts for our business. We love the hatch feature, allowing us to create custom patterns to apply to floorplans and our team uses it for estimating accurate construction material take-offs.

Cons

It is expensive and the pricing is in American so it adds up quick for us Canadians! Also, the newer versions are harder to navigate - so many bells and whistles! Unfortunately, it isn't as compatible with Mac laptops.

PDF Generation & Manipulation

Reviewed 2 years ago

The ease of use, moderate learning curve, and ease of roll out in a non-enterprise environment is outstanding. the additional tools available standard with the package will allow you to do amazing things so much simpler than with the business standard tool which is Adobe Acrobat Pro. Adobe would have never made it in the market if BB came out first in the market.

Pros

At a minimum, the ability to view/read PDF's is a standard in today's business world, however, if you have to generate, manipulate, add notations/text/notes, search docs, use drawing tools, do simple take-off's, etc. with PDF's, you will find BlueBeam (BB) and its suite of tools a refreshing change and pleasure to work with. This is truly the work horse of the PDF market with a much lower price tag than Adobe. Switch, get past the learning curve, and you will be very pleasantly surprised. You will never turn back to another PDF software.

Cons

inability to maintain current versions without constant repurchasing of licenses. No versions for IOS Mac Books. Stop supporting Mac versions. I think this is a critical error that alienates a decent market share from BB.

Love Bluebeam! It should be the PDF standard!

Reviewed 4 years ago
Pros

I was first introduced to Bluebeam through my place of employment. I was amazed, right from the start, at how powerful it was and how many features it had that I never knew I needed! After seeing it I could not believe how lame Adobe Acrobat seemed in comparison. The overlay comparison feature is one of the most used features here at work. I manipulate documents within it continuously. The OCR is very powerful. And text manipulation is nothing short of amazing! Great piece of software! I recommend it to everyone that can afford it! Luckily, I can use my corporate computer for personal use, otherwise I'd have to pay full price for it.

Cons

The cost is rather prohibitive for normal users. But the features are plenty and well developed.

PDF writer and Document control for the construction industry

Reviewed 4 years ago

Revu is a fantastic resourse in the office for editing and marking up PDF drawings. It excelles where vectors are used in 3D PDFs. As construction begins bluebeam becomes less useful navigating drawing compared to something like PlanGrid. You can’t go wrong if you use both bluebeam for Pre-Con and PlanGrid for Construction. The cost savings compared to some other software is substantial.

Pros

The interface is intuitive, the support and training is efficient. Updating documents on studio and controlling versions by checking in and checking out. Has all the features of any other PDF writer plus the ability to enter complex formulas similar to excel. If estimating it prints professional reports.

Cons

Adding tools, fortunately there is an incredible network of folks who make their tools available.

Bluebeam Review-Long Time User

Reviewed 2 years ago

My overall experience has been great. I will continue to use it for work and personal use.

Pros

What I like most about Bluebeam is it's versatility. I have used Bluebeam for estimating 6 figure projects, a pdf viewer, and a document editor. I am able to use and even create my own tools and customize them. I Will likely keep using Bluebeam for a very long time for multiple uses.

Cons

There is one difficulty I have run into with Bluebeam, as far as estimating goes. It can be hard to separate out different rooms or buildings into smaller estimates that are part of the larger estimate. So excluding or getting a price for a specific floor of a building. It is possible to do, but can be tedious.

Bluebeam is a powerhouse PDF creator/editor

Reviewed 5 years ago

Architecture and Engineering firms can benefit from all of the great features integrated into Bluebeam, provided that smaller firms can swallow the initial cost of acquisition and ongoing maintenance.

Pros

Bluebeam is amazing. It has all of the features that draftspersons need to create effective take-offs. It almost has too many features when we first installed the Revu eXtreme software. They have a great support/training system though, and we've now installed this on every company computer.

Cons

It can be a bit cost prohibitive compared to other PDF editors. This is offset by the abundance of features in Bluebeam, however small businesses should ensure that the cost-benefit is worth it to them.

I love Bluebeam

Reviewed 2 years ago
Pros

Bluebeam has been the most used and most influential software I've ever used in my construction career. It has the greatest value of any software out there. It has the flexibility to do everything from estimating takeoffs to creating full designs. As they continue to add functionality to it every year it gets better and better.

Cons

Bluebeam has had it's issues over the years but overall it is an exceptional piece of software. The biggest issue I have is when dealing with large files and the page having to reload after every movement. If they could figure out a way to remove that lag time it would make Bluebeam almost perfect.

Bluebeam is a versatile and easily navigated PDF software for professional and personal use.

Reviewed 6 years ago

I have been using Bluebeam as a primary drawing and detail generation tool for close to 7 years. As a Senior Estimator for a large general construction firm it has been invaluable not only as quantities and takes off tool but as a construction sequence documentation tool. Bluebeam uses are so varied and seemingly limitless, it just takes your imagination to think beyond simple "software". I would, and have, highly recommend Bluebeam not only for the construction industry but also for beyond.

Pros

Ease of use. Low comparative cost. Seemingly endless uses for both professional and personal use. Great user support.

Cons

Only con for me is integration to 3D but this may be more of a "user" issue. File sizes can become large especially when using the Photo tool.

Bluebeam blows Adobe Acrobat out of the water.

Reviewed 5 years ago

This is the best PDF viewing, editing & markup software I've come across. It's affordable & easy to use. I can't suggest Bluebeam enough.

Pros

I like all of the markup tools. I like how easy it is to draw & design. I love it's batch hyperlinking, batch editing tools. I really like it's review & comparison capabilities. It's great how easy it is to combine files & add or remove pages. The OCR & redaction capabilities are fantastic.

Cons

Sometimes, when you're trying to change the style or color of only part of the text in your text box, it changes the entire box or if you move it it removes the style and/or color change. That's the only bug I've found.

Bluebeam Revu has been a software we us daily at our firm. We do all of our shop drawings digitally and Bluebeam helps with that allowing us to have custom stamps and good work flow. Overall we have been very happy with this software and will most likely continue to use it.

Pros

Ease of use and tools available to review drawings and make markups fast.

Cons

The new pricing for updates, until recently Bluebeam was reasonable cost and we had no problems just upgrading every year. But last year they changed the pricing structure and we elected to no upgrade. We still like the product and use it everyday. We will wait a few years and decide if we need to upgrade or not.

Bluebeam give you more than you paid for

Reviewed 5 years ago

It compliments any other software you have.

Pros

This software is by far the "most for the least." I haven't found any other software that allows for such robust examination and sharing of plans for so cheap. Bluebeam allows us to decide who can alter plans, who can flatten them (make the changes permanent), and who can just view them (like sub-contractors). Paid subscriptions are super cheap compared to other softwares that make the same claims.

Cons

Sometimes the icons can get confusing, and having to use a password all the time is a pain, but a small price to pay for a cool shareable medium for plans.

GREAT VALUE! Flexible software that is very scale-able for any company

The value is unbeatable! If you wanted to, you could run an entire project directly out of Blubeam. The possibilities are endless using Bluebeam...

Pros

This software is phenomenal for any document management in construction. Bluebeam is the lifeblood of my everyday work. I use it daily to manipulate, markup, and compare documents. They also have training videos and a vast array of forum topics that people have posted online to any issue that you're having in the software.

Sometimes it can be a little too complex. There's so much that you can do in the software... it can be hard to find how to do what you want to do.
