Appian overview

What is Appian?

Appian is an AI process automation platform built for the mission-critical work that runs large enterprises and governments.

The Appian Platform orchestrates AI agents, employees, robotic process automation, and external systems within governed end-to-end processes, giving organizations the structure, data, and controls required for reliable enterprise outcomes.

Core platform capabilities:

Process orchestration coordinates AI agents, people, and systems within visually modeled workflows with embedded controls, audit trails, and human-in-the-loop escalation for low-confidence agent actions.

AI agents are built and deployed directly within the platform, using Model Context Protocol (MCP) to securely connect to external systems and data sources like Snowflake and Google Vertex AI. Environment-wide policies guard against prompt injection and data leakage.

A patented data fabric provides agents and processes with unified business context across source systems including ERPs (SAP, Oracle, Workday), CRMs (Salesforce, Microsoft Dynamics), data warehouses (Snowflake, Databricks), and legacy mainframes, without requiring data migration.

Process intelligence delivers built-in process mining, real-time operational analytics, and AI-generated recommendations for continuous improvement.

Intelligent document processing extracts structured data from invoices, contracts, claims, and other documents through trained ML models, with auto-classification and human verification workflows.

Robotic process automation automates repetitive tasks across legacy and modern systems through attended and unattended bots managed alongside human work.

AI-assisted development and visual process models accelerate application delivery while preserving enterprise-grade governance, security, and auditability.

Integrations and APIs: Appian provides 200+ pre-built connectors, REST and SOAP API support, native integration with major cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud), and enterprise data integration through ODBC, JDBC, and message queues.

Security and compliance: SOC 1, SOC 2, ISO 27001, HIPAA, GDPR, FedRAMP High, DoD Impact Level 5 (IL5), FISMA High, CSA STAR, UK G-Cloud, and PCI-DSS. 24 cloud regions with 99.99% uptime SLA, 4-minute recovery time objective (RTO), and 1-minute recovery point objective (RPO).

Deployment: Available as Appian Cloud (fully managed SaaS), Appian Government Cloud (FedRAMP/IL5), and self-managed deployments. 9 million users and 10 billion processes per day run on the platform.

I don't use Dropbox that much. It works okay but there are better sharefile systems.
