A basic but versatile tool forms an important part of the Office 365 suite.

Reviewed 2 years ago

I have really enjoyed using Planner for what it is - basic project and task management. Within the context of a team it ex excellent for Agile project management. Outside of this context and when more robust project management is required Planner is often too limited and leads us to look for more able tools.

Pros

Super simple to use and with a good range of functionality, Planner is a light project management tool that is an important part of the Office 365 suite. Tasks for part of the task engine within Office 365 through Microsoft To Do. Information and categorisation that can be recorded on a task is versatile and, when coupled with search and filters, makes keeping track of tasks easy.

Cons

The most frustrating aspect of Planner is the lack of a public view of the board and tasks. Only members of the team can follow progress. Planner is so closely coupled into the team membership of Office 365 that it limits its uses. Also, the lack of gantt chart functionality weakens the ability of Planner to be considered a serious project management tool.

Microsoft Planner: Surprisingly Effective

Reviewed 4 months ago
Pros

I was reluctant to switch from Asana, which I considered the gold standard as a project management platform. However, Planner constantly impresses me by having functionalities I would not have expected it to have, or that I only expected Asana and other dedicated programs to have (rather than one aspect of the Microsoft Suite).

Cons

Microsoft Planner has all the key functionalities it needs, and more than I would have expected; but, it falls short on user experience. I used to want to plan everything in Asana because it was a little gamified. I am happy to use the Planner when it makes sense to, but I don't go out of my way to.

The perfect project planning tool for office365.

Reviewed 10 months ago
Pros

Microsoft Planner is like any other project planning and dashboard product. However, its main attraction is that it is integrated into the Microsoft 365 suite and you can integrate it with multiple Microsoft tools present in your company. For example, the fact of integrating it into teams.

Cons

It does not provide great innovations compared to the competition and it is not designed for the management of sprints in an easy and intuitive way.

Micsoft Planner has helped us become organised as a team

Reviewed 9 months ago

Overal Planner has worked wonders for our organisation. It has helped us plan, prioritise and follow up on tasks without problems at all. I recommend Microsoft Planner for project and task management.

Pros

Planner has very good features for task management and follow ups. This is the feature that we were struggling with but has now become easier. Further, collaboration among team members on tasks is now a walk in the park.

Cons

We struggled a bit to implement but youtube material helped us resolve technical issues in our environment.

Fills a hole (just)

Reviewed 4 years ago

Basic - to the point of not using it after a few initial attempts. The limitations made its use pointless. I recommend Trello over Planner to colleagues.

Pros

MS Planner is a bare bones planner tool. It does the basics of creating tasks and allocating them with, or without schedules. It triggers reminder emails and has basic dashboard views for users to see where their efforts need to be directed.

Cons

When using this product with an O365 licence it requires the plan to be associated with a Team (group). I don't understand why it simply can't be associated to my account. Linking it to a group enables the group members to see and edit what is in the plan. There's no security that will allow me to enable plan access to specific team members - so it can't serve a subgroup of the Team. You also cannot have a plan for Private Teams Channels - who are, again, a subgroup of the Team. So you can't build the plan privately or share it privately. This is a major shortcoming.

Microsoft Planner: A User-Friendly Project Management Tool with Some Limitations

Reviewed a year ago

Microsoft Planner is a solid choice for teams looking for a simple and user-friendly project management solution.

Pros

It offers several benefits for teams working on projects. One of the main advantages of Microsoft Planner is its user-friendly interface, which makes it easy for users to navigate and manage tasks. Additionally, Microsoft Planner allows teams to collaborate on tasks, assign tasks to team members, set due dates and discuss tasks within the platform.

Cons

It has a relatively limited feature set compared to other project management tools, and some advanced functionalities such as time tracking and Gantt charts are not available. Additionally, the reporting and analytics capabilities in Microsoft Planner are not as robust as in other project management tools.

The right tool for the team that uses Microsoft 365 products

Reviewed 2 years ago

It is an easy-to-use tool, but with few features that will allow you to work collaboratively.

Pros

Its highly controlled integration with the other Microsoft 365 product modules. It is very easy to learn, with the gantt view which is customizable and filterable. The management of notifications is intelligent, they are sent grouped, not one by one. Integration with email and other tools through Power Automate.

Cons

Few features on content management: No text formatting, impossible to identify collaborators in the comment, no drag and drop for files, no preview for images.

Very effective task management tool by Microsoft.

Reviewed 7 months ago

I love working with MS Planner to manage our collaborative projects/tasks. It was very easy to implement as we already have an MS environment, and has been easy to use and onboard new hires since then. It's features are as good as other pm tools, if not better. All in all, a solid tool to have to manage your projects.

Pros

MS Planner has been a great addition to our team management. It's easy to use, has the the same MS interface that we're all used to, and makes it much easier to monitor our teams' tasks.

Cons

It doesn't have as good of a sandbox envirnment as some of the other project management tools for brainstorming. It would be good if they expanded on that side more as well.

An excellent tool for managing collaboration and assigning tasks

With some configuration and knowledge of all the features of M365 Planner can be a very powerful tool that can be applied to a wide range of uses

Cons

There is a learning curve in understanding how Planner is incorporated in with SharePoint, Power Automate and Forms but this has been made easier in recent MS updates and is improving all the time

A great, lightweight task / project management tool for M365 users

Reviewed a year ago

Planner is a great starting point for shared tasks, and may be a perfect long term solution for M365 users. For those looking for depth of features or more robust task/project management functionality, you may need to step up to Project or look elsewhere (e.g. Asana, etc.)

Pros

Planner is intuitive, robust, and deeply connected and integrated with Microsoft 365. For basic team-based task tracking, it's hard to beat!

Cons

Like most things Microsoft - they shipped a viable product, but are stuck on building new functionality and innovation. It has come a long way, but waiting for improvements can be painfully slow. E.g. notifications, file sharing, etc. feel quite limited based on what other modern software packages are doing.

The best task manager at your hands.

Reviewed 12 days ago

For task management it is a super good tool, it is very complete and the integration with 365 due to being from the same manufacturer makes it one of the most complete and easy on the market

Pros

What we like most about this tool is that we can integrate it with the complete Microsoft suite, that is, 365, a set of tools that make tasks easy to manage, assign and administer.

Cons

It is a very good tool but I feel that it would be more complete if we could assign tickets and manage projects in a more complete way

A better board than Trello? Still missing one thing.

Reviewed 10 months ago

We've been using Planner for several years to manage publishing projects and event tasks.

Pros

The obvious argument for Planner is its integration with the Office/365 suite. Planner comes with our 365 subscription and is available to all our team members. The integration with Microsoft Teams is very good, and, importantly, Planner tasks show up in Microsoft To-Do. So it plays nicely with this environment.Aside from integrations, Planner provides a really nice board experience and a competent list view.

Cons

Planner is less actively developed than similar products from other companies. It's greatest weakness, in my opinion: there is no way to see all the tasks assigned to another person. Nor is it possible to search through all plans to find a task. (I can, however, see all tasks assigned to me in a unified view.)The effect of this is to silo each plan. If I need to find a task, but am not sure in which plan it exists, I'm reduced to looking through multiple plans or purchasing Apps4Pro's Planner Manager add-on.

My experience with Microsoft Planner

Reviewed 2 years ago

It has gone quite well for us, we managed to reduce costs by purchasing everything from a single provider (Microsoft). Previously we used Google apps for mail, repository and Zoho for projects and tasks, but now we have mail, planner, office software in a single dashboard.

Pros

It is a tool that comes included with the licensing that we already pay for along with Office 365 and Exchange. It is very easy to add new users, which we link to our corporate Microsoft account. It helps us reduce user administration and licensing since all those who require this service and others from Microsoft are managed on the same platform.

Cons

They are not dynamic like other tools we have used in the past. Obtaining gantt or flow charts is not something that simple. Although it helps the entire organization in general, users who manage projects still use project software especially when we have to follow up with third parties.

Microsoft Planner Review

Reviewed a year ago

Personally, I have used Microsoft Planner as a tool for project management and it has tremendously helped my organization become more efficient, improve our jobs and create more customer satisfaction.

Pros

Many of the features included in this software are very easy to navigate. They provide and include the three objective things needed for task management which includes, status progress, time/schedule and task lists. This software like I stated previously is very simple and easy to use which what I like the most about this software. This software includes certain alerts that can prove to be essential to help a business reach their goals and meet deadlines. This software has so many great benefits and many businesses should take advantage.

Cons

A feature that I felt was missing includes, not being able to set recurring tasks, only being able to track one task at a time and not being able to see who is assigned to each task. Not being able to set recurring task and only being able to track one task at a time creates more busy tedious work and takes the efficiency away to the entire task management. If a company isn't able to see who is currently assigned to a task, it makes management's role more difficult assigning tasks and being able to oversee team availibility.

MS Planner for Task Management

Reviewed 10 months ago

Most MS products are simple and practical thanks to the user interface. Thanks to its integration with other MS products, it can provide fast and easy solutions. It has a simple and easy distribution platform. Fast and easy integration into the system is also preferred.

Pros

It is a business management software offered under MS Office 365. As with all MS products, this software was very easy to deploy and manage cloud-based. Like every MS product, this product is very functional as it integrates with other MS products and can work together. Managing existing teams is at a simple, practical and easy-to-manage level for business planning and task distribution. It has a user-friendly interface thanks to its task assignment, support for different languages, and simple interface.

Cons

For those who have not used the Office 365 Platform before, it may seem difficult to use. However, you can quickly adapt to the system after experiencing it for a few days.

Great simple tool to manage project evolution.

Reviewed a year ago

Even if the tool still requires some improvements, but since it is low cost and included in the Microsoft 365 package, the benefit of living with those small issues is worth it.

Pros

In comparison to other tools I've used like JIRA, this tool is really easy to configure, to use and it works extremely well with Microsoft Teams.

Cons

The tool still needs improvements with statuses, notifications and scheduling. For statuses, they're not customizable and the pre-established statuses are too limited. For notifications, they are half of the time very slow to be received in mailbox, up to 30 minutes delay. For scheduling, you can only set a end date, but it is not possible to set multiple follow up dates and it is also impossible to set dates on subtasks.
