Pros and cons

I love how i can verify insurance and obtains authorizations on so many different insurances all in on place. It's nice how they have both out of net work and in net work benefits.
I do like the convenience and ease of use of the site. The software is very up to date and mostly helpful.
The experience is a good one and I would recommend this to anyone.
They have nothing to do with denials or claims that has been denied. I will stop here because I run into at least 2 or 3 issues a day for Availity.
It is an awful site that does not try to do customer service or fix their problem. They try to close your tickets before it is resolved and when you tell them there is an issue.
I still have the same problem after they say these things.

Availity is Awful

Reviewed 5 months ago

Very poor. Very poor. Very poor. The sad part is the insurance companies make us use it particularly BCBS and they have no idea how horrible it is.

Pros

Nothing. Nothing. Nothing. Because there is always an issue with something.

Cons

Constantly down for certain insurance companies. Always an issue with our account. Customer service is...well there is none and in order to get any you have to complain. For example I opened a ticket for an issue and was met with a reply a few days later that due to high volume of tickets (meaning they have tons of issues) they couldn't help me. I replied letting them know that is terrible customer service and once I did that I got a reply the next day.

Nothing but a nightmare!

SUPER DIFFICULT to get any useful information that you need regarding claims or claim status.

Pros

If the EOB shows up, it's fairly easy to use. IF!! being the operative word. Also entering a claim through Availity is fairly simple, but it'll do you little good because you won't be able to find it after

Cons

Ability to locate claims that you entered. Ability to verify patient's benefits

Availity is a HUGE disappointment

Reviewed a year ago

My overall experience is that life was better before Availity. BCBS of TN and Humana had PERFECT websites, now I have issues all the time with Availity. I can't even get benefits for Aetna and Availity seems uninterested to help. Overall I absolutely wish Availity would disappear.

Pros

Nothing, there is no positive to Availity since we had to use them. Nothing at all.

Cons

Constantly having intermittent issues (system always down) and constantly changing platform. Most recently they made looking up benefits more difficult than before.

The clunkiest, cheapest option

Reviewed 2 years ago

I think that Availity is an anathema to the healthcare industry and is the epitome of cheap and thoughtless provider portals I have ever used.

Pros

I abhor Availity. it is the worst provider portal I have ever used.

Cons

I have no idea how this Availity has gotten as many positive reviews as it has. Out of all of the insurance portals I have ever used it is the one that requires the most extra steps and gives you the least amount of information.Instead of just being able to search for a members information with their ID you have to put in their date of birth as well.Their denials hardly show what the denial was for and so you have to spend a ton of extra time calling and trying to get information from them.

ACCESS to this site is very difficult and customer service is very poor

Reviewed 2 years ago

LONG wait times 25-50 mins to get a customer service person on the phone. VArying advice once you get someone., Multiple calls to try and get something done. Website often down or not working properly, with very slow access or crashing. This is our only way to access claim info for BCBS, and it is a non starterI am now paying for 'advanced access' and it still is terrible.

Pros

being able to research eligibility and SOME claims

Cons

locked out of site, 2 factor authentication not working by phone, cannot get customer service to fix my login despite 4 calls all lasting 40-50 mins.

Why change something good?

Reviewed 3 years ago

I used to love Availity and it's amazing ease of use and the complete information it provided. Not any more. I get that changes come with a learning curve - what I don't get is why this change comes with such inconvenience for end users.

Pros

Until this Monday I really enjoyed using Availity for the eligibility and benefit look up I spend my day doing.

Cons

The changes that were made to search eligibility and benefits have created, what used to be a very convenient process, a totally inconvenient task. I'm not understanding why I have to continually re-enter information with each search I do (ie: type of Benefit/Service type - provider NPI - place of service). That info went in once and stayed in with the previous version. It also doesn't list the history of all searches in one place. Anthem seems to have stayed as it was but all other companies are suffering the update. Which is also much harder to navigate.

Poorly Executed Product, Horrible Customer Service

Reviewed 3 years ago

I despise this software and am making it my agenda to discredit it to other providers. I am exhausted, mentally and physically from dealing with the daily outages and problems.

Pros

I am so disappointed in the product. I was forced into its use by insurance carriers through my office and it is so ineffective.

Cons

There are DAILY glitches in the software that make it so that I cannot do my job . . . customer service does not exist, you are given a scripted response that "we are working on the issue" and nothing ever gets accomplished and tomorrow there will be a new problem.

The program does make a great all in one clearinghouse for medical claims and payments

Reviewed 3 years ago

Honestly I have mixed feelings about using this the way we currently are because of all the problems we have had, and at times, still continue to have. Our account manager has been great working to correct these but I do not think their setup and implementation teams do a very thorough job or we wouldn't be still having issues we are cleaning up from switching.

Pros

I like that the program is easy to use, correct claims, and get payments off of. It makes it nice having one program that functions as a full clearinghouse for claims. Their customer service and account managers are great to work with as well!

Cons

That claims do not stay in there longer than 5 days, EDI setups are not always completed, and payment remits are frequently missing from the listings.

Everything in one Place

Reviewed 3 years ago

Availity has navigated me through the process and it seems to be self explanatory. I have never needed customer service and it allows you to update your provider through the system by sending reminders and even shows you in the announcement section. The experience is a good one and I would recommend this to anyone.

Pros

I love this software. Availity is easy to navigate and answers all of your questions under one roof. It is very easy to use and has limited hangups. You can find EOBs, Patient insurance information, documents, informational documents, announcements, and corrections to the facility in which you are registered. There are many ways to find your patients information and if claims were paid. Although we haven't extended out to all of the payors, the ones we do have on file and within the pay spacers, we can find them all. The information is easy to print for patient folders and everything is up to date.

Cons

I have problems often logging in, not because the system can't find me but because when you hit the log in button, it will hesitate or you will have to hit it a couple of times for the system to log in. That is really the only issue I've had with the system.

Availity hits the mark for most insurance companies, but is inconsistent with others

Reviewed 4 years ago

I've used Availity for many years as a practicing health care provider and later as the owner/manager of a medical billing company. They've added a tremendous number of insurance companies over the past 3 years in particular and I suspect we'll find that as Availity builds out their back end product many more smaller insurance companies will turn to Availity. Unfortunately the data presented is only as good as what the insurance companies provide so in many cases Availity can't replace a phone call.

Pros

Access to a large number of insurance companies eligibility and benefit information. Integrated claims review/status system. Preauthorization system works well. They listen to their users requests and feedback. They revamped one module to make it "responsive" and made it harder, not easier to use. They listened and rather than rolling back the changes, incorporated them in a new version.

Cons

The different modules could fit/work together better. (although I will admit they are making improvements). Their system doesn't handle many different tax IDs/providers well and has the platform has grown, the red tape and "authorization" bloat makes it difficult/time consuming for 3rd party billers. As a daily user, I'm frustrated with the amount of "white space" between entry fields which requires alot of scrolling. I also am not fond of their new EOB format. It is consistent between carrier and is not print friendly.

Absolute Worst!

Reviewed 4 years ago

Horrible. Don't use Availity if you can avoid it. Don't pay any fees to them to use their additional services. not worth it. Waste of time and money. I really wish Availity would change their platform to actually work.

Pros

Availity is the worst platform I have ever seen or used. I really really dislike how the platform is laid out and how non-userfriendly it is. You really can't accomplish anything on this platform. I have certain insurance companies that I work with that request that we use Availity. This is the only reason that I am using it...forced to do it! You will get error code after error code with Availity.

Cons

Everything! I am not sure that there is one thing that I like about Availity. Horrible.

Great portal for Eligibility and Authorizations

Reviewed 5 years ago

I Like receiving reminder emails to update our directory when we are due.

Pros

It is very easy to pull eligibilities, obtain authorizations, and even add users using this portal.

Cons

The Provider Directory Management can be confusing especially if you have multiple doctors. The layout could be simplified to show all locations and all providers at once instead of individually.

Too cumbersome and repetitive

Reviewed 5 years ago
Pros

I can submit claims electronically, which is a good thing.

Cons

This software is used for too many types of companies. When you submit a claim, you are asked to provide repeated information about the client throughout. It does not remember anything about the client from week to week, so each time a claim is entered an enormous amount of information is gathered again and again. The transition from one field to another is not smooth. They could do SO much better. Why don't they?

Availity for Chiropractic Practice

Reviewed 5 years ago

Overall my experience with availity is positive. It is convenient to be able to check benefits from multiple insurance companies in one place. Customer service has been good when needed.

Pros

Availity allows you to check patient insurance benefits for multiple insurance companies. It is convenient to be able to check the majority of benefits in one place. One of my favorite features is the ability to add patients into the system so you don't have to re-enter their information every time you need to check benefits.

Cons

Availity doesn't always provide the necessary benefit information. We often have to call the insurance company to get the necessary details. Sometimes the benefit information provided on Availity is different from the information given over the phone. Acupuncture benefits are often incorrect, so we must call to verify for every patient who gets acupuncture treatments.

Availity Review

Reviewed 5 years ago

I wish some of the other features, like submitting authorizations worked. It has not worked for us since it launched. As far as patients benefits and eligibility though just finding out the basics such as what a patient owes for their visit is a beeze.

Pros

I like the ease of verifying benefits for our patients. It's quick and easy. Easily accessible. Never really have to worry about the site being down like other websites.

Cons

I do not like how they generalize the authorization benefits. Many patients it lists that authorization is required, however, when we call the company specified, they will tell us no authorization is required. I wish it were more true to each specific plan and not just generalized. We waste a lot of time on the phone to find out that an authorization it truly not required. Also, their tracking of benefits, most of the time does not work. We have had patient use up all their allotted benefits, and the website will still show they have all their visits remaining, when they truly do not.

Not the best, not the worst

Reviewed 5 years ago

It's great for using on a daily basic for checking patients insurance coverage but I would love them to stop changing the website so often.

Pros

I like that you can check multiple insurances on this website at a time and that it saves your last search in case you need to go back to it.

Cons

When it comes to the explanation of benefits / billing side of things, they keep trying to improve things and in my option its making it worse. The old way, was the best way. I am all up for change but they are changing it too much.

Availity Is Our Go To.

Reviewed 5 years ago

All my staff is happy with ease and use of availity. We are happy to be able to have so many tools from one product.

Pros

We use availity daily. For everything from verification, to details. We are able to have a one stop shop for multiple look ups.

Cons

I love it all. If I had to choose one detail for improvement it would be ease of reporting. However we have notice that reports are a issue with several products.

Major time saver and generates accurate benefits/eligibility information!

Reviewed 5 years ago

Availity has increased productivity and efficiency in the office as a major time saver. In most cases, Availity has replaced the need to call insurance companies and deal with long hold times, inaccurate information, and miscommunication with insurance representatives.

Pros

Availity is a game changer when it comes to checking general patient health insurance policy benefits/eligibility. Phone calls to insurance companies can take up to an hour so the fact that Availity is capable of pulling up the same information in less than a minute is incredibly valuable. Furthermore, when I have compared the information generated through Availity to the details verbally given over...

Cons

There is a feature on Availity that allows you to pull up the actual image of a patient's insurance card, which is really great. It usually doesn't work, however. It would be great if this tool was fully functional and could bring up the ID itself. There are a few major insurance companies that aren't available via Availity, so we end up needing to call for those patients.

Great online resource to review health insurance benefits!

Reviewed 5 years ago

Overall, this has been a very useful program and in my opinion, the best place to check Medicare insurance benefits. There are many insurances accessible in this website, which is great also. The very first time I used it, I was able to navigate through the program and do exactly what I needed to without explanation or confusion. Definitely worth using if you need to access health insurance information, and beats a phone call for benefit checks any day!

Pros

I can check health insurance benefits online, update provider profiles, access many different insurances companies and it's all very user friendly and easy to understand.

Cons

Some of the health insurance companies only have limited information on the website, so it can feel frustrating when you can't access everything you'd like to.

A necessity for medical offices

Reviewed 6 years ago

Our medical practice depends heavily on Availity's website on a daily basis. It allows us to look up patients' insurance benefits through most insurance companies without having to call in, Electronic Remittance Advices are easy to look up, and we are able to keep insurance companies up-to-date with our practice and doctor information through their services. And best of all, it's free! We have used Availity for years, and plan to continue for many years to come.

Pros

This website allows a variety of necessary functions for any medical practice. It is easy to use, and very convenient.

Cons

Their customer service leaves much to be desired. And the CareCalc/Cost Estimator functions often go down.
