We are an SEO agency. Surfer helps discover missing keyword opportunities, not just phrases but also singular words. This has been very helpful for many of our clients, ranging from local small businesses to national medium-sized organizations. Additionally, our top benefit is being able to run an SEO audit using the audit tool and offer a quick and free analysis for potential prospects. We have a general template setup where we focus on the most important elements in the audit ranging from the content score to page speed. Not too many agencies do this at no charge -- we do and it's been bringing us a good amount of business -- all thanks to SurferSEO!
SERP analyzer. It's a powerful tool featuring a friendly visual interface and many interesting features such as the audit and keyword density tool. Additionally being able to view SERP results based on different geographic locations is very useful.
In the keyword density tool, they once changed the relevancy descriptions from percentages to low, medium, and high. Thankfully they went back with the original percentages, which are much more accurate.

Surfer has been a huge benefit and has changed how we plan content, handle writer assignments, and fine-tune live posts that have started to gain traction.
Surfer helps me follow a process that I did manually for many years, reviewing the top-ranking articles and ensuring my article is the most complete, without any fluff.
There's always room for improvement and they're constantly adding new features. One small issue I noticed is that the Chrome extension for Google Docs doesn't play nicely with other sidebars like Grammarly or Docs to Markdown, so I have to disable it to use those.

I have mixed reviews for Surfer. While it is good for SERP analysis, including NLPs in content, and cluster planning, it is of no use writing for topics with limited competition. AI humanizer is simply waste of time. It doesn’t do any good to the content. In a nutshell, its a good SEO tool, but you can’t relly heavily on it for all content types.
Some of Surfer’s recently launched features are pretty good, like topic explorer, keyword cluster planner, audit, and SERP analyzer.
When I am working on a topic with mixed intent, there isn’t much Surfer can help me with. If there aren’t any good competitors for the topic, it’s pretty much useless.

I like that the software is easy to use and filled with actionable tasks. Your competitors wrote more content with more relevant keywords? Well, you know how many words and what keywords to add to your page. I also like the fact that the software keeps evolving to the user's demands. Surfer started as a basic on-page tool which then added content planner, content editor, keyword research, etc. The interface is also easy to understand and looks beautiful. Kudos to the team who can translate complex stuff like SEO into a much simpler product which users can use easily.
I know that this software is mostly used for on page purpose. However, if in the future, it also integrates more backlink data, it can evolve into a very awesome beast and be the ultimate SEO tool. At the moment, the backlink data is limited but it's not a deal breaker.
